About the Ring Door View Cam

A smart peephole cam from Ring
Most peepholes provide a very limited view. Even more limiting is the fact that you need to be standing at your door to use them. So why not replace your peephole with one that you can check from anywhere? Ring's Door View Cam lets you do that and more.
Like the rest of Ring's smart doorbells, the Door View Cam is a motion-sensing HD camera with night vision. It connects to your home's Wi-Fi and notifies you via the mobile app whenever anyone presses the built-in doorbell button or trips the motion sensors.
You can then answer the door from wherever you are using the app. You'll be able to see, hear, and speak to your visitors, and they won't know you aren't home unless you want them to.
Unlike the other Ring Doorbell variations, the Door View Cam gets mounted in the middle of your door itself — where people aren't expecting to see a bell. Because of this, Ring included an impact sensor, so you'll get notified if someone knocks, too.
Oh and it has an optical viewer so you can still use it as a peephole — app-free, right at the door.
Works for renters, too
The Door View Cam doesn't require you to drill any holes that might damage your door or endanger your security deposit. It simply mounts to your door in place of your existing peephole. And if you keep your old one safely tucked away, you can just swap it back in again when it's time to move.
And if you live in an apartment building with nearby neighbors, you can reassure them that you're not being nosy by creating "privacy zones" around their doors. These are areas you won't see or record, which simply appear as black rectangles in the app.
Optional cloud storage
The camera streams live footage to the app 24/7, but if you want to save or send video clips, you'll need a Ring Protect plan. Ring Protect is a subscription-based cloud storage service. The basic package ($3/month or $30/year) covers a single camera and allows you to save and share your Ring videos from that camera. You get a free, 30-day trial subscription when you activate your Ring device.
Installing multiple Ring devices? The Ring Protect Plus plan ($10/month or $100/year) includes cloud storage for unlimited Ring devices at a single location.

More details on the Ring Door View Cam
Overview: The Ring Door View Cam lets you install a video doorbell on an entry door with a peephole. This is an innovative solution for renters, apartment or condo dwellers, or home owners who can't install a doorbell camera at their front door. The Door View Cam gives you all of the benefits of a Ring Video Doorbell, such as HD Video, 2-way talk, and motion-activated notifications. It can detect if someone has left a package, if someone is knocking, or just snooping around your door. With the Ring App on your phone or tablet, you can see who is at your front door. If you don't want to pull out your phone, you can still look through the Door View Cam's built-in peephole. The camera installs in minutes, and runs on its long-life rechargeable battery.
Camera: The Door View Cam has a wide-angle lens with a 155° horizontal/90° vertical field of view. The camera produces bright 1080p HD video in a Live View that you can watch on your phone, tablet, or computer. Two-way audio is possible between the camera and your smartphone through the Ring App. When motion is detected, a notification will be sent to your smart device through the app, allowing you to view the live video stream.
Motion/Privacy Zones: Motion Zones allow you to define specific areas that you want the Ring Door View Cam to monitor for movement. You can determine the size and shape of the Motion Zone in the Ring app by "drawing" the box on your screen. Other zones, where there is frequent activity that causes false alerts, can be designated as non-active. You can also activate Privacy Zones and disable audio recording to customize your monitoring and protect your neighbor's privacy.
Installation: The Ring Door View Cam includes an outdoor unit, which includes the camera, a doorbell button, and all of the electronics. Attached to the unit is a 2.5" long shaft that passes through the hole in the door left after removing your existing peephole. The indoor unit holds the rechargeable battery. A thin ribbon cable passes through the shaft and plugs into the indoor unit to provide power to the camera. A special key is included to tighten the nut that pulls together the two units. The Ring Door View Cam works with peepholes that are 1/2" to 9/16" in diameter, and with doors approximately 1.3" to 2.2" thick. The indoor unit has a sliding privacy shield to cover the peephole to prevent others from looking in. Dimensions of the Door View Cam are as follows:
Wi-Fi: The Ring Video Doorbell Pro operates on an 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connection on the 2.4 GHz band. It requires a minimum upload speed of 1 Mbps, however, 2 Mbps is recommended for best streaming performance.
Ring App: The free Ring - Always Home app pulls together all of your Ring devices, including Video Doorbells and Security Cameras. You can have multiple users on your Ring account, each with the ability to view video from any of the video devices. The app sends you an instant alert when someone triggers a motion sensor, or rings your Ring Video Doorbell. You'll be able to see, hear, and speak to anyone on your property using your smart device. In addition, the app lets you create a virtual Neighborhood Watch and receive alerts from your neighbors. In the app, you can zoom and pan for a better look, customize the Motion Zones, times for receiving (or not receiving) alerts, and how often to be notified for motion events. The Ring App is available for Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 9.3 or later, and for Android devices running version 5.0 and up. The app also works with Windows 10 and Mac OS.
Works With Alexa: With Alexa-enabled devices, you can use voice commands to hear custom notifications from the Door View cam, or check Live View video. It also works with Fire TV devices.
Ring Protect: The Ring app includes a free 30-day trial of Ring Video Recording, which lets you save, review, and share recordings from the app. With a paid Ring Protect account, you can save your videos for up to 60 days. Ring Protect plans are currently* $3.00 per month / $30.00 per year for basic coverage (per camera), or $10.00 per month / $100.00 per year for Protect Plus (per home).
