Ring's flagship doorbell captures a picture that's HD+
The name Ring is nearly synonymous with video doorbells. Their expansive lineup offers a doorbell for almost every kind of home, but this feature-packed Video Doorbell Pro 2 might just be their best one yet. It captures a bigger view than any other Ring model — a full 1536p x 1536p. That 150° field of view means you can get a crystal-clear look at people's faces and the packages on your doorstep.
Let Alexa answer the door
The Pro 2 includes Alexa Greetings. This feature allows the built-in voice assistant to greet visitors on your behalf. When someone rings the bell, Alexa says: "Hi, this is Alexa. May I know the purpose of your visit?" If it's a delivery person, Alexa can direct them where to leave the package. If it's a visitor, Alexa will take a message for you.
A Ring Protect plan is required to use Alexa Greetings.
Add cloud storage, too
The camera streams live footage to the app 24/7, but saving and sending video clips is another great reason to get a Ring Protect plan. The basic package ($3/month or $30/year) covers cloud storage for a single camera and allows you to save and share your Ring videos from that camera. You get a free, 30-day trial subscription when you activate your Ring device.
Installing multiple Ring devices? The Ring Protect Plus plan ($10/month or $100/year) includes cloud storage for unlimited Ring devices at a single location.
Ring's Video Doorbell Pro 2 uses a new radar technology to deliver a couple of cool features that work together. Older iterations of Ring's motion detection allowed you to create custom motion zones using the app. The Pro 2 expands on this with 3D Motion Detection. You set a perimeter between five and thirty feet from your doorbell, and a recording will be triggered when someone or something enters that area. You'll also be able to see their path as a series of dots using Bird's Eye View, a feature that uses satellite imaging to give you an aerial view of motion events around your home.
Connect to your existing wiring
The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is designed to easily replace existing doorbells that operate at a voltage between 16 and 24 volts AC. Hardwiring it this way will both power Ring's camera and allow it to trigger your old chime when someone rings the bell.
If you don't have an existing compatible doorbell, you can still take advantage of the Pro 2's cool features by picking up Ring's Plug-in Adapter (sold separately).

More details on the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2
Overview: The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 (5AT2S2) lets you replace your existing wired doorbell with a premium video doorbell with lots of new security features, such as Head-to-Toe HD+ video and 3D Motion Detection. It also features built-in Alexa Greetings that answer the door for you when you're busy. When someone approaches your door, or rings the doorbell, you receive an instant alert, and can see and hear the visitor on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Video Doorbell Pro 2 is hardwired into your existing doorbell wiring. It comes with a Satin Nickel faceplate, with the option of receiving an additional faceplate from the manufacturer (via email at setup). Mounting hardware and a corner mounting kit are included.
Camera: The Video Doorbell Pro 2 lets you see much more than most other video doorbells with its new Head-to-Toe HD+ Video. The wide angle lens provides a 150° (horizontal) and a 150° (vertical) field of view, which lets you see more of the person visiting, or check on packages that might have been left at your doorstep. The camera produces bright 1536p HD+ video in a Live View that you can watch on your phone, tablet, or computer. Built-in infrared LEDs enable clear color night vision after the sun goes down. In addition to the enhanced video, the Video Doorbell Pro 2 offers two-way talk with enhanced Audio+ so you can speak and clearly listen to your visitors.
3D Motion Detection: Ring's new 3D Motion Detection lets you customize a specific boundary (up to 30 feet away) to trigger the Video Doorbell Pro 2 to start recording. The internal radar sensors determine when the subject crosses the virtual threshold by measuring its specific distance from the camera. Combining this feature with Motion Zones and Privacy Zones provides you with better motion alerts and better detection of objects approaching head on. When setting up 3D Motion Detection in the Ring app, a map of your current location appears so you can indicate where the Video Doorbell Pro 2 has been installed, which direction it faces, and your desired detection range. Objects that enter this boundary will trigger the camera to start recording. Once 3D Motion Detection is set up, you can also utilize the Bird's Eye View feature.
Bird's Eye View: The new Bird's Eye View feature lets you view an aerial map with dots to represent the path that visitors take when visiting your property. Yellow dots in the Bird's Eye View monitor the current path of your visitor. As each dot gets older, they will gradually grow redder and more transparent before disappearing after a few seconds. Yellow dots appear in both live streams and in motion recordings. Gray dots appear in live streams to show where activity was detected before you answered the alert on your phone or tablet. The Bird's Eye View appears as a picture-in-picture window image in Live View and Event Timeline.
Motion Zones: Motion Zones allow you to define specific areas that you want the Ring Doorbell Pro 2 to monitor for movement. You can determine the size and shape of the Motion Zone in the Ring app by "drawing" the box on your screen. Other zones, where there is frequent activity that causes false alerts, can be designated as non-active. Other Motion Settings include scheduling and sensitivity. You can schedule brief interruption in coverage to avoid triggering alerts caused by expected activity. A slider in the app menu lets you fine tune the sensitivity from "People Only" motion to "All Activity.
Smart Responses: Ring offers Smart Responses to make the Video Doorbell Pro 2 even more helpful. You can select pre-recorded audio messages or alerts, or have Alexa take a message when your doorbell rings or detects motion. If you are a Ring Protect subscriber, you can have Alexa greet visitors when they ring the doorbell, and offer to take a message, or provide directions for package deliveries. Alexa Greetings can be set up in the Ring App, including how long to wait after the doorbell is rung to respond, and where to specify where packages should be left. If you can't (or don't want to) answer the door, Ring's Quick Replies can respond when the doorbell rings. There are six preset responses, such as "We can't answer the door right now, but if you'd like to leave a message, you can do it now," or "Please leave the package outside. If you'd like to leave a message, you can do it now." You can watch your visitor leave a response using Live View, or if you're a Ring Protect subscriber, access the message in your event history. Motion Warnings use an audible alert to let visitors know they are being recorded.
Wi-Fi: The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 operates on an 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi connection on either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bands. It requires a minimum upload speed of 1 Mbps, however, 2 Mbps is recommended for best streaming performance.
Installation: The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 surface mounts to a flat surface replacing an existing doorbell and hardwired into your existing doorbell wiring. The hardware needed to install your new Video Doorbell Pro 2 is included in the box, including screws, anchors, wire extensions, wire nuts, and a screwdriver. The included corner plate lets you install the video doorbell at an angle, if needed. A Satin Nickel faceplate is included. Once you have installed and setup the doorbell, you will be sent a redemption code via email that can be redeemed for another faceplate at no charge in one of 16 available colors.
Ring App: The free Ring - Always Home app pulls together all of your Ring devices, including Video Doorbells and Security Cameras. The app sends you an instant alert when someone triggers a motion sensor, or rings your Ring Video Doorbell. You'll be able to see, hear, and speak to anyone on your property using your smart device. In addition, the app lets you create a virtual Neighborhood Watch and receive alerts from your neighbors. In the app, you can zoom and pan for a better look, customize the Motion Zones, times for receiving (or not receiving) alerts, and how often to be notified for motion events. The Ring App is available for Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 10.0 or later, and for Android devices running version 5.0 and up. The app also works with Windows 10 and Mac OS.
Ring Protect: The Ring app includes a free 30-day trial of Ring Protect, which lets you save, review, and share recordings from the app. With the purchase of a Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2, you receive motion-activated notifications, real-time video with Live View, two-way talk, and lifetime theft protection. Ring Protect Basic (for one camera) adds 60-day video history, video saving and sharing, and Snapshot Capture. Ring Protect Plus (for unlimited cameras) adds extended warranties for all devices, and 10% off select products at Ring.com. Ring Protect plans are currently* $3.00 per month / $30.00 per year for basic coverage (per camera), or $10.00 per month / $100.00 per year for Protect Plus.
