More details on the MobileSpec MSI175S
Overview: The MobileSpec MSI175S is a strip-style power inverter for your vehicle for turning 12-volt DC power from the battery to 115-volt AC power. Plug the inverter into your vehicle's 12-volt power port (cigarette lighter) and you can connect one or two AC powered devices. In addition, you can power or charge USB powered devices with the supplied USB-A and USB-C ports, as well as another 12-volt DC device from the provided DC output socket. The inverter is just under 8" in length, 2-5/8" wide and 1-7/8" high, and weighs 9.44 ounces. It has an attached 24" cable.
Input: The MSI175S plugs into your vehicle's DC power port, and accepts an input of 11 to 15 Volts DC. For convenience, the input has a 24" power cord to reach the power port. When the inverter is properly connected to battery power, the LED indicator should glow.
AC Output: The two 3-prong Standard North American AC outlets are rated at 115V AC, 58-62Hz on its Modified Sine Wave (MSW), and provide up to 175 watts of continuous power and 350 watts surge power. It operates at 85% max efficiency. The inverter can be used to power many electronic devices and small appliances. Here are some typical appliances that can be powered by the MSI175S, and their wattage ratings:
- Cellular Phone: 3 watts
- Tablet: 15 watts
- Glue Gun: 20 watts
- 7" Portable DVD player: 48 watts
- Laptop Computer: 60-100 watts
- Video Game Console: 60-300 watts
- Lamps (up to 70 watts): 75 watts
Note: You should check the wattage rating of your device before plugging it into the inverter to be sure you're not exceeding the capacity of the inverter.
Dual USB Outputs: The MobileSpec MSI175S offers two USB ports for charging your electronic devices. The USB-C port's output is rated at 3A (15 watts). The USB-A port has a 2.4A output for a total of 12 watts.
DC Output: A 12-volt DC power port is provided for powering or charging a 12-volt device, such as a dash camera.
Battery Operating Time: When the vehicle battery is the sole power source, the inverter could be a significant draw on the battery's power, depending on the charge level of the battery, its capacity, and the amount of power being drawn by the particular AC load. Typically, the battery has an operating time of 4 to 5 hours or more. It is strongly recommended that you start the vehicle every one or two hours to recharge the battery before its capacity drops too low. With no devices plugged in, the inverter has a no load draw of less than 0.5A, so its impact on the battery charge is negligible.
Safety Features: To protect the battery, the MSI175S will automatically shut off when the input power drops below 10.5V DC (+/-0.3V), or if the internal temperature of the device is too high. It has a built-in, user-changeable glass fuse of 20A to protect the inverter in case of an overload. The ideal operating temperature is 32°-104°F.
