Our take on the Shure SE215-BT1

You can tell by our customers' rave reviews — the wired Shure SE215 professional in-ear headphones are as big a hit with the on-the-go crowd as they are with stage and studio musicians. Turns out that what works best for performing music is also great for listening to it on the bus or train.

Shure SE215-BT1

The Shure SE215-BT1 plays music wirelessly and delivers spacious sound with punchy bass.

Shure's most popular in-ears go wireless

You can tell by our customers' rave reviews — the wired Shure SE215 professional in-ear headphones are as big a hit with the on-the-go crowd as they are with stage and studio musicians. Turns out that what works best for performing music is also great for listening to it on the bus or train.

After trying out the SE215-BT1, I'm convinced these wireless Bluetooth headphones will be a top choice for the savvy commuter who appreciates good sound.

This edition features the same secure fit, professional-grade noise isolation, and clear sound as the wired version. But it also includes a Bluetooth adapter cable that connects the two earpieces, so you can wirelessly play tunes and take phone calls from your phone.

Eliminate noise — the old-fashioned way

If you've never worn Shure SE-series headphones before, the first time can be startling. It gets really quiet. I put them on in the office, and all the usual distractions just disappeared.

Unlike noise-canceling headphones that pump in subtle phase canceling signals to neutralize external sound, Shure in-ears make a tight seal that blocks it all out. It's a super-effective approach that reduces outside sound by a whopping 37dB, to be exact.

Secure, pro-style fit

Shure includes six pairs of ear tips to ensure a snug fit that feels completely comfortable to you. That's three sizes of soft silicone tips and three sizes of my personal preference, spongy foam tips.

I had to overcome a small learning curve to get the right fit — you wrap the cord around your ear like you've probably seen musicians and performers do with their in-ear monitors. Once properly secured, they felt like they wouldn't slide around at all, no matter how I moved my head.

My thoughts on the sound: wide open and detailed with potent bass

What struck me most about the Shure SE215-BT1's sound was how spread out everything sounded. Because of how they fit, my brain was telling me to expect a concentrated, between-the-ears soundstage. Instead, Kasami Washington's sprawling jazz-funk song "Truth" practically enveloped my head. I'm talking aImost 360-degrees — I heard instruments way off to the side and even behind me.

Shure's sound signature is usually pretty neutral. They make headphones for professional recording and performing, after all. But these headphones are more bass-focused, which I actually appreciated. The slight low-end lift added a fun yet taut energy that underscored the looseness of Washington and crew's jam. It was a welcome presence that never took away from the airy spaciousness of the sax.

"Go-anywhere" convenience

I love them!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have owned a pair of Shure 425 for several years. With the removal of the standard jack from Apple iPhones about a year ago, I have been searching for something to use with my phone. i finally broke down and purchased the blue tooth Shure 215 and wish I had done it over a year ago. Great sound, easy to pair, fit well. Absolutely great investment and well worth the money. Once again Shure uses their years of experience in the music industry to deliver a quality, outstanding set of earphones.

Pros: Cut the cord, no carrying an adapter for iPhones, fantastic sound

Cons: Takes a little practice putting them in your ears. Once you get it down, they are fantastic.

Real good quality product so far. Unfortunately no matter what combination of earpiece sizes and earbud placement I use these are painful to wear and lack bass response. I'm sure they fit really well for some ear shapes just not mine.

Pros: Stable Bluetooth connection Really good build quality

Cons: Lack Bluetooth 4.2. No caller id Can be difficult to install Not a fit for all ear shapes.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound for these monitors is amazing however the Bluetooth cable needs to be revised. Battery is bulky and heavy, placed in a spot where it's constantly bouncing or otherwise in the way. Even though the headphones are sweat proof (IPX4), the battery doesn't seem as if it'll last. Volume compared to volume of the cable version must be higher to get the same clarity and level. Overall, good but can be great with a lighter cable and better battery.

Pros: Sound quality, can be turned into a cable version.

Cons: Bluetooth cable.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A little light on the bass, but an otherwise nicely designed pair of headphones; clear and crisp sound, no distortion. With the right fit they isolate sound to the degree that I question situational awareness when i'm walking around the city. I especially appreciate the detachable cable that allows for the easy replacement of each component.

This is a no brainer. Either spend more just for the Bluetooth cable or a little bit more for the set, oh yeah sounds good too.

Great Headphones!!

Riki from Tempe, AZ on 10/5/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had the wired SE215 version then lost them a few years back. I have since purchased the One More Triple Drivers to replace them. I was in the market for some good Bluetooth headphones for a trip I'm going on and saw these puppies for sale and immediately purchased them. I remember they had a very open detailed tone with great bass response and for me the fit in my ears was perfect. I was a little worried that the Bluetooth would muddy the tone a bit but the fact that they fit so well in my ears made me go through with the purchase. Now that I got them my worries have vanished as they sound great! I honestly can't remember the wired set sounding any better than these. I also prefer them over the triple drivers as these are less harsh and more full and spacious! Great value!!!

Pros: Sounds like the wired version, Bluetooth works great with no issues.

Cons: I wish they had a better clip to attach to my shirt. The one provided is in an akward position.

Product Research

Overview: The Shure SE215 Wireless Sound Isolating Earphones deliver crystal clear, spacious sound with rich bass. These in-ear headphones are equipped with a single dynamic MicroDriver. They connect via Bluetooth to your smartphone or tablet, and have a 30" connecting cable. The SE215 Wireless has a rechargeable battery, and comes with six pairs of ear tips for best fit and sound isolation.

Bluetooth 4.1: The SE215 Wireless in-ear headphones includes the RMCE-BT1 Bluetooth-enabled Remote+Mic Accessory Cable. This 30" cable has gold-plated MMCX connectors on each end for attaching the SE215 ear buds. With Bluetooth 4.1, you can wirelessly connect with most smartphones, tablets, or laptops from up to 30 feet (10 meters). The RMCE-BT1's cables have a 2" formable wire at each ear bud for an over-the-ear configuration to keep the cables secure and out of the way. The included clothing clip helps stabilize and secure the cable during any activity. The RMCE-BT1 works with the Shure SE215, SE315, SE425, SE535, and SE846 Sound Isolating Earphones.

In-line Remote/Mic: The in-line 3-button remote and microphone lets you control your music playback, phone calls, and voice assistants (Siri, Google, etc.). The remote/mic works with both Apple iOS and Android devices. There are two outer buttons (+ and -), and a center button. The outer buttons are for raising and lowering the volume, and for skipping to the next or previous track. The center button can turn on/off the power, pair with the Bluetooth device, play/pause music, answer/end/reject a phone call, and activate your digital voice assistant.

Power Requirements: The headphones are powered by a Lithium-Polymer rechargeable battery. The battery provides up to 8 hours on a full charge, or 2 hours on a 15-minute quick charge. A Micro USB cable is provided for charging the battery.

Ear Tips: The SE215 Wireless comes with three sizes of silicone flex sleeves and three sizes of black Sound Isolating foam sleeves. The sleeves provide a secure, comfortable fit, and a good seal to enhance the bass and to block up to 37dB of ambient noise.

Cleaning Tool: In-ear headphones require cleaning from time to time to maintain sound quality. When the earphone nozzle becomes blocked, the sound quality deteriorates. The obstruction can be removed with the included wire loop cleaning tool. The length of the wire loop is customized to allow the tool to reach into the nozzle without damaging the sound filter inside.

Carrying Case: The SE215 Wireless comes with a black cloth storage case with a zippered closure.

Customer Q&A

Why did you buy this?

I spoke to a gentleman on the phone today and I am embarrassed to admit that I can't remember his name! He recommended them. I currently have a pair of Bose Soundsport but the volume--even at the highest setting--is just too low. The sound quality is superb; however, I'm left wanting more.
