Setting the standard

It's no exaggeration to refer Shure's SM Series microphones as the "industry standard." For decades, these microphones have helped artists deliver legendary performances in both live shows and in the studio. And you can count on these rugged microphones to stand the test of time, capturing your artistry for years to come.

Shur SM58

The slight bump in the SM58's frequency response really makes the vocals pop.

It's the one

If you've watched a live performance, you've most likely seen the SM58 vocal microphone in action.Shure engineered the SM58 with a curve that accents the upper midrange and rolls off the lows, so your lead and backup singers will stand out in the mix. The dynamic cardioid design picks up what you want to hear and does a great job of rejecting extraneous noise from other instruments.

Built like a tank

The construction of the SM58 further clarifies the sound — a pneumatic shock-mount system cuts down on handling noise, while the spherical wind and pop filter keep things quiet even at outdoor venues. Reliability? Can't beat this mic — it's proven itself over millions of miles of touring and millions of gigs.

    Features

Overview: The Shure SM58 is a rugged professional microphone designed for live performance, sound reinforcement, and studio recording applications. Its frequency response is tailored for vocals, with a brightened midrange, and a bass rolloff. This SM58-LC model comes with a swiveling stand mount and a zippered carrying bag.

Pickup Pattern: The SM58 is has a cardioid polar pattern, which picks up the most sound from directly in front of the microphone, and some sound from the sides. This makes it less susceptible to feedback.

Construction: The microphone has a durable metal construction, with a die cast metal handle and a dark gray matte finish. It has a pneumatic shock-mount system which reduces handling noise. The hardened steel mesh ball grille protects the internal elements, and resists wear and abuse. Inside the grille is an integrated "pop" filter that reduces explosive breath sounds and wind noise.

Mounting: The SM58 comes with a swiveling stand mount, which provides a secure mount to a floor stand or a boom stand. The microphone slips into the swivel mount, which lets you tilt the microphone forward or backward over 180°.

Connector: The Shure SM58 has a 3-pin male XLR connector. No microphone cable is included in this package.

    Specifications:

    • Frequency Response: 50Hz - 15kHz
    • Directional Polar Pattern: Cardioid (unidirectional)
    • Output Impedance (at 1000 Hz): 150 ohms (EIA rated) 300 ohms (actual)
    • Sensitivity (at 1000Hz): -54.5 dBV/Pa (1.85 mV)
    • Weight: 11.5 ounces (0.72 lbs.)

    Customer Q&A

    4 questions already asked

    Q
What accessories do I need with this microphone, to amplify a hammered dulcimer performance? stand? amplifier? I just need the basics. I will likely purchase a Shure SM58 microphone.

    A
This would depend on how large a venue you are playing, Margaret. In addition to the Shure SM58 (which is the standard for live performance, and an excellent microphone choice) you will need a stand, microphone cable, and some sort of amplification. The Gator Frameworks Rok-it stand in the first link below is adjustable and has a boom for mic placement wherever you need it. Connect with the RapcoHorizon M1 XLR cable, the link I posted second below is the 25-foot option for plenty of length. In the third link below is the Mackie Thump 212 12" powered speaker which has an XLR input connection and mic/line switch to plug the mic in directly. The Mackie Thump is an excellent value in our powered PA speaker offerings and would provide enough sound for even medium to large or even outdoor gigs! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_869RMICSB/Gator-Frameworks-Rok-it-Microphone-Stand.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_852N1M125/RapcoHorizon-M1-Series-25-feet.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_863T212/Mackie-Thump-212.html

    Q
Will this microphone effectively record a brass instrument or will it distort the tone?
    jackson  May 08, 2019
    2 answers
    A
No, the mic will not distort the tone. No decent mic, appropriately used, will distort the tone. If you mean, will the mic accurately reproduce the sound of the horn? Yes, it will. My reservation is that a 58 may not give you an uncolored or transparent high end. It depends on what you are recording for. A 58 will do an all around good job. That being said, brass usually record well with a decent condenser mic.

The mic does not include a cable. But any standard XLRmic cable will work.
