It's "okay"

HG from Arizona on 9/25/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is probably "okay" for its price but definitely not something I would purchase again for the same speaker and receiver I have.

Pros: 1. You can have 6 rooms playing all at once. 2. Will work on 12 gauge audio wire.

Cons: 1. For the audio wire, you can't connect this switch with banana plug, which is quite annoying when setting it up. 2. Once a while the song will be cut off if you have more than 2 rooms playing. This will depend on your receiver and speakers but the speaker switch here is the choke point.

Great Machine

Frank from Redwood City, CA on 6/16/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Crutchfield team of advisors recommended the lower powered version of this selector and I decided to go with the more expensive one due to its ability to handle more power and I am NOT disappointed. The music throughout my home has been transformed. I was able to turn the power on my Yamaha amp/receiver all the way up without distortion and without the amp shutting off automatically. Life in our home has been transformed. I give this machine a 5 on its performance. However, I am giving an overall rating of 4 because the box came without usable instructions. I have a decent IQ so I figured it out, but for the lame, this would have been a huge challenge. Once I figured it out, I was able to detach the clips in the back for each input, connect the wires to the clips and then reattach the clips to the main box. That was simple and it would have been nice if I didn't have to spend the 30 minutes figuring out a strategy. Nonetheless, I am pleased with the device and will buy another one just like it for my second home.

quick and easy

great product. quick and easy to install, it even comes with sticker labels for any room you can image (including the Dungeon :-) doesn't take up much room and has a very clean look to it. I have 12 speakers hooked up to this and then to an Onkyo-8522 receiver. Turn them all on at the same time and crank it up, this thing can handle it with no prob. It's expensive, but your speakers cost more than this and you wouldn't want to destroy them, so break down and buy's worth it.

Easy to hook up

Douglas from Belvidere Tn on 1/29/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 1980 pioneer sx-3900 reciever that pushes out 120w+ per channel. ( back when they made stereo eqiupment) I bought a cheaper speaker selector switch a few years ago...... bad idea. I cranked it up at a party and POOF up in smoke it went. So I looked around for sometime and found this one which states it can take the Wattage and guarantees it. I am a electrician so I wired my house throughout with monster wire for my speakers. With the hook up blocks on the niles big and removeable it made it easy to hook the big wire up and get the Music flowing throughout my whole house. I recommend if you have good equipment or if you want good equipment you need to buy this one. Easy to use, easy to hook up your wires and works great.

Product Research

Construction: The chassis is component-sized (17" wide) and made from durable black metal with padded feet.

Speaker Switches: Each set of speaker outputs has an on/off switch so any combination of connected speakers can be played at any given time.

Protection Switch: The impedance protection switch on the front of the unit safeguards the receiver or amplifier even when all 6 pairs of speakers are playing.

Note: You will need to activate the "Protection" switch whenever the overall system impedance might fall below 4 ohms. It is recommended to verify that the receiver or amplifier is capable of driving a 4-ohm load.

Constant Protection: This speaker selector is equipped with a manual override for the protection circuit that enables you to defeat the front panel protection switch and maintain constant impedance protection. This will safeguard your amplifier from being overdriven due to accidental or improper use.

Removable Speaker Terminals: There are six removable speaker output terminal blocks and one removable speaker input terminal block. These connectors make it easier to wire the speakers to the selector. Each terminal block can accommodate up to 12 gauge wire.

Labels: Included are 72 pre printed and 6 blank label stickers for easy identification of the front panel controls.

  • Frequency Response: 20Hz-20kHz +0dB, -0dB (flat)
  • Power Handling: 250 watts per channel RMS at 8 ohms

2 questions already asked

Hi David T, I'm no expert concerning the niles speaker switches. Best I could suggest is follow the manufactures instruction exactly as printed. I'd pay specific attention to amount of power delivered from your amp, speaker wire size and length, speaker switch protection use in accord with manufactures instructions. Hope that helps [ Paul  May 24, 2018 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: That unit is manual control only. You won't be able to use a remote with that speaker selector. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  May 29, 2014 ]  Staff
