The IRB1 infrared (IR) flasher helps enable easy control of your A/V system from a secondary listening room, using either your system's regular remote control or a universal remote. A complete IR repeater system, which also includes an IR system hub and one IR sensor for each secondary listening room, not only gives you A/V system control from multiple rooms, but also lets you place your components out of sight in a cabinet or closet.
Here's how an IR repeater system works: In any of your secondary listening rooms, simply point your remote control at the mounted IR sensor and press a button. The sensor relays your command to the IR hub, which passes the signal on to the IRB1 flasher, which in turn transmits your command to the relevant A/V component in your system.
The IRB1's high-power output allows this single flasher to convey IR commands to an entire stack of A/V components. Its adhesive backing allows easy mounting, and its steamlined design fits neatly inside a cabinet door or at the top of an equipment rack.

Overview: An infrared (IR) extender system enables you to control your IR remote controlled A/V equipment from a remote location. This enables you to place your A/V components out of sight (behind cabinet doors, in the rear of a room, or in a different room) and still conveniently control your equipment. The IRB1 is a high-output flasher, typically known as a flooding flasher, that relays infrared commands using flashes of IR light in a flooding pattern. When properly placed, it's powerful enough to control an entire stack of components (very tall stacks may require a second flasher). It is one of three elements that make up an infrared extender system:
- IR Sensors (sold separately): IR Sensors receive IR commands from hand-held remote controls and relay the commands to the Main System Unit via a 2-conductor shielded cable. Generally, sensors are placed so that you can easily and naturally point your remote control directly at them. Niles offers an array of easily concealable sensors: wall-mount, ceiling-mount, surface-mount and table-top. IR sensors are the eyes of the system.
- IR Main System Unit (sold separately): The IR Main System Unit provides a connection hub for the IR sensors and the IR flashers and is generally located near the A/V components. The Main System Unit's level controls and LED indicators enable you to calibrate and troubleshoot an IR extender system. The Main System Unit is the heart of an IR extender system.
- IR Flashers: Infrared Flashers transmit the infrared signals from the IR Main System Unit to your A/V components. Niles manufactures both flooding flashers (models IRB1 and IRC1) and miniature pin-point flashers (model MF1VF). Flashers are the voice of an IR extender system.
Dual IR LEDs: Two high-output LEDs give the IRB1 exceptional range and IR emitting power.
Compatibility: The IRB1 will control most makes and models of IR-controlled A/V components (those with remotes using carrier frequencies between 26 and 60 Hz), and it's compatible with most Niles infrared repeaters (not compatible with the MSU 140), infrared routers, and multi-zone keypad systems.
