Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product. Easy to attach speaker wires and no loss of sound from speaker to speaker.

Pros: Simple and very useful to join multiple speakers into 1 zone and allowed me to use 2 MRC-6430's to control the whole house.

Cons: Difficult to open the clips for the speakers. The could be spaced further apart to make access easier.

Solid build. Works as described!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to install and allows distribution of audio to multiple built in speakers in the home from a stereo receiver.

Pros: straightforward and easy to use

Cons: connections are small but can be removed from the board to facilitate installation of each wire set. However, each set of speakers need to have its own volume control.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was having problems with my speakers - sometimes they would work, sometimes not. Very frustrating. I submitted a diagram of my system to Crutchfield and received a call from a tech/sales guy. He determined I needed to find out how the wires were connected from the amplifier and the control modules. When I found out they were connected with wire nuts (orange!) I let the tech know and he suggested the Niles VCS HUB8. Suffice to say it works perfectly now. I'm very happy! All speakers work clearly and I can ramp up the loudness too. Money well spent.

Pros: Solid organized connections. Very neat and professional looking.

Cons: None

Niles hub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Niles has long been a name I have associated with innovative and quality products. This hub is a good product but perhaps a little over priced for what you get. Cured my headaches big time. Like I said a bit pricey but worked as advertised.

Pros: Compact

Cons: Overpriced

Works Well

spta97 from New York on 8/1/2011

I bought this for a whole house audio install I was doing for my sister. As the above reviewer mentioned it is a pretty simple device but works very well. What may not be evident is that the speaker wires are held in by mechanical plastic clips that flip open (they can be pretty stubborn so prepare for sore fingers) and you insert the wire and flip them back shut which pushs the metal contacts to the wires holding them securely. I liked the large wattage handling capacity and the fact that I it didn't have those annoying set screws that seem to have issues with holding the wires. My only complaint is that I would like to have purchased one that could handle more speaker pairs or if there was a way that Niles made these easy to daisy chain for larger installations. For this price point (which is about 50% more than others I have seen) they should have those features. I removed one star since I thought this was too expensive for what it was but I think it is a good device and will serve my installation well. Just a bit too pricey for what it is.

Not a lot can be said about a product this simple. But I did like the way the wires lock down securely. Often when connecting so many wires in such a small area they keep disconnecting from being handled so much. This one didn't do that.

Hands-on research

Product Research

Overview: The VCS HUB8 is a speaker distribution hub that mounts in a structured wiring cabinet or on the wall. It connects between the speaker-level output of an amplifier or receiver and the Niles volume controls, allowing you to adjust the sound level of each pair of speakers.

Removable Screwless Speaker Connectors: Two piece, screwless speaker connectors make installation quick and secure. Each connector can accept up to 16-gauge wire. Larger (lower gauge) wire is not recommended, as it will not fit into the connectors. Solid-core, aluminum, or "Romex" wire is not recommended.

Mounting: The VCS HUB8 is designed specifically to fit into a structured wiring cabinet, with snap-in "Christmas Tree" plugs supplied for convenient installation. The VCS HUB8 can also be mounted to the wall.

Yes, 16 speakers total. I have mine running to 8 impedance matching volume controls, then out to the speakers. I use this device to consolidate the 8 pairs of home run wiring before going into the amp. [ Richard  Aug 17, 2015 ]
Yes, 16 speakers total. [ Tim  Aug 15, 2015 ]
Yes it does but you have to be careful because you can overload the output of your amp if you try to drive them all at too high a volume [ THOMAS  Aug 15, 2015 ]
Yes if you look closely at the unit you will see that each of the 8 connectors accommodates 4 wires [ Pamela  Aug 15, 2015 ]

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Yes, that Niles VCS HUB8 would work with an Onkyo stereo receiver. It would require impedance matching volume controls for each set of speakers, though. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Mar 25, 2014 ]  Staff
