About the Bazooka BTA850FH

A bass cannon

The BTA850FH Bass Tubes package from Bazooka includes a great-sounding TA850C amplified subwoofer tube and convenient factory radio connection kit. With this handy combo, you can enjoy thumping low end with a minimum amount of hassle.

A bass cannon

Bass makes up about 30% of your music, and it gives music its power and impact. A good subwoofer can make an average car audio system sound good, and a good car audio system sound great. Good bass is all about moving air, and a cylindrical tube translates the motion of its woofer into maximum air pressure so you hear and feel more bass. Bazooka designed the Bass Tubes enclosure to act like a bass cannon, firing low frequencies throughout your vehicle.

Bass Tube efficiency

BTA850FH 8" amplified Bass Tubes package

The BTA850FH Bass Tubes package from Bazooka includes a great-sounding TA850C amplified subwoofer tube and convenient factory radio connection kit. With this handy combo, you can enjoy thumping low end with a minimum amount of hassle.

Bazooka's TA850C 8" amplified Bass Tubes enclosure is an ideal solution for getting the thrill of powerful bass without making any permanent modifications, especially handy if you drive a leased vehicle. It features an efficient 8" woofer, a built-in 50-watt amplifier, and mounting hardware. Place the TA850C in a convenient spot in your vehicle, connect it to your car stereo, and enjoy some punchy bass while you drive.

Fits in almost any vehicle

The included F.A.S.T. combination from Bazooka features everything you need to hook up the TA850C to the factory radio in your vehicle: the F.A.S.T.-9999 universal harness and a 16-foot extension cable. The F.A.S.T.-9999 universal harness uses Posi-Tap connectors and simple, reliable plugs to get the signal from your factory radio to the Bass Tube — no splicing needed. Hook the other end of the universal harness up to the 16-foot long F.A.S.T.-BTAH extension cable, which you've connected to the TA850C in the rear of your vehicle.

Bass Tubes enclosures fit just about anywhere

A compact Bass Tubes enclosure will fit in almost any vehicle, and you can disconnect it in a snap if you need more cargo space. Since the tube's speaker and port are right next to each other, you can get amazing results by "corner loading" your tube — placing it in a corner of your trunk or cargo area so your vehicle's boundaries act as a natural amplifier, boosting bass production.

Features

Overview: The Bazooka Big EZ Bass Amplified Subwoofer Kit (BTA850FH) features Bazooka's patented Bass Tube enclosure design. Its a complete subwoofer solution for your truck, SUV, sedan, or hatchback. The Big EZ Bass Amplified Subwoofer Kit includes an amplified bass tube, a Fast-harness, and an extension harness.

Bass Tube Type Enclosure: The Bazooka subwoofer's patented Bass Tube's bass-reflex enclosure design allows for use of 100% of the woofer's cone area.

8" Woofer w/ 50-Watt Amp: The Bazooka BTA850FH features an extremely efficient 8" woofer, coupled to a 50-watt amplifier for a frequency response of 39Hz to 250Hz.

Corner Loading: The Bazooka Bass Tubes enclosure is optimized for corner loading. The Bass Tube enclosure's port and woofer are on the same plane and in close proximity for maximum corner-loading results. The corner of your car amplifies the concentrated bass output of the Bass Tube enclosure.

F.A.S.T. Harness: F.A.S.T. is an innovative universal harness system that allows you to integrate the Bazooka subwoofer into the vast majority of factory and aftermarket sound systems. The included FAST-9999 universal harness uses the patented Posi-Tap connector from Posi-Products for making fast, secure connections to your OEM/aftermarket headunit's wire harness. The included FAST-BTAH extension harness is routed from the Bazooka Tube location to the radio; one end connects to the FAST-9999 universal harness, and the other end to the amplified bass tube. The extension harness also contains RCA line level inputs (at the radio end) and a ground wire which will need to be grounded to the metal chassis of your vehicle.

Note: The FAST-9999 universal harness features the following wire leads - Red (+12V), Blue/White (Remote turn-on), White (LF+), White/Black (LF-), Gray (RF+), and Gray/Black (RF-).

Signal Inputs: The included FAST-BTAH extension harness has line level (male RCA plugs) and speaker level (Posi-Tap connectors on the FAST-9999 harnes) inputs.

Mounting Straps: The BTA850FH comes with straps to keep the bass tube securely mounted, while still making removal quick and easy if you need more cargo room.

We just installed this into a 2003 4Runner and we noticed that it was a lot lighter than the exact same model but 100 watt. When we plugged everything up it didn't run bass but when we plugged the 100 watt sub in it started working. Could we have just gotten a faulty sub?

Q
I have a 2009 dodge nitro and it does not have a 12 constant wire going to the radio will it still work?
[ Duane  Jun 05, 2019 ]
4 answers
A
Yes. You can run your own 12v power from the fuse box.
[ CHRIS  Jun 08, 2019 ]
A
If your stereo has something like a power antenna line, you might be able to use that. If not, find a circuit that goes hot with the ignition and tap that. The only downside with the latter is that the ignition must be on to run the sub, but you usually have to do that to power the stereo anyway. Look online to see if you can find some wiring diagrams to give you a clue which line to tap. Good luck.

I'm not a good person to ask. I installed my bazooka in a 2016 Accord, followed the instructions but it's not working correctly.

If memory serves I ran 12 gauge wire from battery to bazooka with watertight fuse near battery. A little more work, but better than burned out wiring harness. Hope this helps.

Is it possible to hook an amp up to this speaker? I have on in my truck hooked up to the stereo but I am upgrading the stereo and speakers and wanted to see if i could make this thing louder.

A
No this model has a built in amp that maximizes the efficiency of this particular woofer and enclosure. If you wish to keep your amp, try another model of Bazooka that is "passive" and requires an amp.
[ Thomas  May 27, 2019 ]
A
You cannot amplifie a powered Bass tube it's best to get a specific Bass speaker unpowered and add power to the speakers to the limit of Watts on the speaker
[ Daniel  May 27, 2019 ]
A
No,it has an internal amplifier on it. You will need to get the bazooka with out the amp.
[ Bruce  May 27, 2019 ]
A
No you can't
[ Frederick  May 27, 2019 ]
A
It only has low level inputs due to the amp built in it. You could open it up abd wire the speaker direct to your other amp but it would be easier to buy a sub box that isn't already powered.

I have a small hatchback and its great to round out the base beyond factory. However, if you like loud base without distortion at max volume levels, I'd go with the 100-watt version at a minimum.
[ Grant  Apr 07, 2018 ]
A
No. It only produces extremely low frequencies. My stereo sounded better without this tube.
[ Thomas  Apr 07, 2018 ]
A
I installed this behind the bench seat in a 79 Ford F150. It has plenty of power for the relatively small cab space, and it fills out the low end perfectly with windows down out on the highway during summer cruising. If you want to rattle windows or hear it from 100 feet away, it is not enough; but more than adequate if you want nice balance at moderate volumes.

I installed mine in a Honda Pilot. Two things I spent some time working on was finding a good rubber grommet in the firewall that was not being used for factory wiring. This is critical for proper wire routing and wire protection. The second thing was the routing of the wires from the dash to the rear of the car. I removed numerous pieces of trim from the lower door jams so I could hide and secure the wires. The rest of the install was easy based on the support from techs at crutchfield.

Would this be powerful enough for a little extra base in a Miata? Looking for something to add just a little to my 2 seater, and didnt know if this would be enough or if I should look for one with external power.

We put one in our lLiberty and it really helped support the bass while saving lots of space, and simplifying the install. I feel like it rolls off at its high end, leaving a little gap below the in- door speakers, though. If you have room, consider the ten inch. Otherwise, a little equalization may do the trick. I would buy it again in this installation.
[ ALAN  Sep 27, 2017 ]

If you can fit it in the cabin, yes. If you need to put it in the trunk, don't bother.
[ Brandon  Sep 27, 2017 ]
A
I'm a truck driver and have mine inside a Freightliner. If you install it in the cab of your car it will be way powerful. If you install it in your trunk, then hopefully you have fold down seats in the back. Then it will still be more bass than you need. If its isolated in the trunk with no way for the moving air to get to the cab of the car, then Im not sure.

This comes with a harness connector that patches into an amp that's wired to the battery. If you've got the amp, I don't think you need anything further.
[ ROBERT J  Apr 15, 2017 ]

Yep, the wiring kit that comes with it is all you need. It piggy backs your radio wires for power and sound. Then you have to ground it in your trunk at the other end of the wire harness. If you have trouble with the wire colors in your car not matching up with the bazooka wire kit, just email crutchfield with your make model and year of car and they'll tell you which wires are which.

Q
I would like to know if this would work with my factory head unit in my 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt?
[ Pat  Nov 19, 2016 ]
1 answer
A
You should not have a problem what so ever. The unit comes with detailed instructions on how to hook the wiring into the factory system. I installed the Bazooka tube on my wife's 2010 Malibu with ease. Helpful hint: Figure out where you are going to place the tube, run your wiring first, make your splice connections with the supplied materials, then mount and plug in the tube. In the Malibu, I was able to go beside the transmission hump, under the carpet to the driver door jamb, under the door still plastic to the rear floor board, pulled the bottom of the back seat out, ran across the bottom of the seat tub, and stopped at my connection point in the trunk. You should have well enough length in wiring. Leave yourself some slack as well, just tuck it under the back seat before snapping it back into place. If you have any experience with car audio wiring is a breeze. Don't let it intimidate you. Also, as far as running the wire, take your time and be patient. Don't get too aggressive removing the trim it simply pulls off and clips right back on. I hope this helps. Hint #2: Play with the gain on the tube to get the desired sound. Your not going to wake the neighbors, but this thing will add that extra bass most all factory systems lack. I love it.

Q
Will it connect to my factory system I have replace the factory speakers with 4" 4Ã?6 blaunpunk speaker's and I am wanting to add some bass but don't want to spend on the touch screen?
[ huffy  May 27, 2016 ]
1 answer
A
Absolutely! With the supplied wiring, installation is an ease if you have any car audio knowledge and read the directions. If anything is difficult, it would be routing the wires to keep them hidden. Begin routing behind your factory head unit until you reach the location you intend on mounting the tube, then begin hooking up your wiring and mounting your tube. You should have no problems.

The head has a red ignition and yellow (10A fused) battery leads...AND a separate blue wire for power antenna/amp turn-on in the manual...I'm on the fence as to tie in the Bazooka hot wire with the Dual head blue wire, OR connect direct to the battery. Does the FAST connect kit that comes with the Bazooka have it's own fuse, and if I wire the Bazooka directly to the battery, is it constantly ON? How does it switch off as to not find a dead battery in the morning?

I've had a few of these units. If you use the fast connect properly , the bazooka will be protected by the head unit fuse since it connects into the head units power wire. No need to worry about dead battery in the morning. The bazookas have an automatic shut off once there is no signal being sent to it. You'll probably notice that it takes the bazooka a few seconds to kick in when you first turn the head unit on.

I connected fine without any connection to the battery. Worked just fine and never had any issues with battery drainage.

You will still need to power the sub. Use only RCA cables with mine and did not work. The factory wiring kit is pretty striaght forward

So i was going to power my door speakers with a small amp to increase their quality and am thinking of adding this bazooka for bass since it has its own amp. My question is, are the rca connections enough or do I still need to tie into the speaker wires? Also, will that cause an issue since the door speaker wires will be going directly to the amp and then making the connection to the head unit via the rca cable from the amp?

Yes you will need to tie it into the harness wires, although the only ones I needed were the ground (black), power (red), and controller (blue). The others are if you want to use speaker wires for different output settings, they are not needed if you use RCA wires.

I used the wiring harness that is supplied with the bazooka bass tube, works great, easy installation!

No

NO, I would not use this in a marine application. The woofer itself is a paper material and the electronics probably wouldn't hold up long term with the moisture.

no, this is a subwoofer for a car or truck

I drive a 2013 Ford F150 Super crew without the Sony stereo. It seriously needs some bass. Will this fit under the rear seat of my Super crew and can someone send me the wiring steps so I can see if I can do it? Thanks!

Hello, does this powered sub need to be hooked up directly to the battery, or will the 12v wire coming into the stock head unit be ok since it only 50watts? Thanks, Scott

Hello Scott, If your amp draw from the head unit and sub at rated max output do not exceed the rated amp on the fuse, you will be ok doing this. I how ever have an aftermarket head unit that controls the sub. The factory wire harness in my vehicle which already had an amp from the factory has a separate hot lead from the fuse box along with the head unit lead for powering a separate amp so I did not need to hook up a separate wire for the sub. If you do not have this style, you will need to hook up to a separate power lead from the fuse box or battery to power your sub. I hope this helps. Good luck Paul

Hi Scott, I have seen online that people have wired the power both ways with good results. I was skeptical about pairing it to the head unit since it's rated max draw and fusing didn't leave much room and the wiring wasn't accessable once in place to see if it was getting too hot and might cause a problem so I opted for the safest way with a 10 amp fuse at the battery to the bazooka power supply. That way if anything ever happens to the hot lead and it shorts it will blow the fuse at the battery and not harm anything else (the old smoking wire under the dash because they were fused at that end and not the battery eventually rubbing up against something exposing the insulation and poof). So for less than $10 a rubber fuse holder and wire from my local NAPA store I feel safer with the installation and won't be looking for any surprizes. It's your call ... check what the MAX amp/volt draw is to see what you have available to insure there won't be a atrain on your fused factory link if your going to tap in on the existing supply. Hope this helps, best of luck, Dave
