About the Kicker 46CXA800.1T

Buck Pomerantz

High-level bass power

Do you like powerful bass? Kicker's CXA800.1T mono subwoofer amplifier can put out up to 800 watts RMS, so your bass will kick it hard. The quality of the bass tone matters as much as the volume, so a variable low-pass filter helps get maximum performance from your sub/enclosure combination, while a fixed subsonic filter removes the extreme low resonances that cause distortion. A variable bass boost allows you to add some extra low-end punch if you want. An optional wired remote lets you conveniently adjust the bass level from your front seat.

Hooks in almost anywhere in almost any position

This amplifier works with 1-ohm loads, so you won't have to worry too much about matching impedances when you add a second sub to your system. Kicker's Fail-Safe Integration Technology (FIT™) keeps this amp's input free from noise or interference, so you can tap into your vehicle's speaker wiring for an input signal without a worry. A 3-second turn-on/turn-off delay eliminates system pops and other noises. The CXA800.1T comes with hardware that lets you mount it vertically, so you can put it in a location that takes up very little floor space and looks cool too.

Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output. The criteria for measuring amplifier power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4Ω. CEA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).

CEA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output: 300 watts RMS x 1 into 4Ω
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 75 dBA (measured at 1 watt into 4Ω)

Other Specifications:

  • Power Output:
    • 2Ω: 600 watts RMS x 1 (14.4 volts, ≤1.0% THD+N)
    • 1Ω: 800 watts RMS x 1 (14.4 volts, ≤1.0% THD+N)
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 95 dB (at rated power output)

Controls:

  • Input Level: 2-position switch; select high (speaker-level) or low (line-level)
  • Input Gain Control: rotary input Gain control; continuously variable from 125mV to 5V with the input level switch set to low; 1V to 40V with the input level switch set to high
  • Crossover Frequency: continuously variable rotary dial; set the low pass crossover point between 50Hz and 200Hz; the crossover slope is 12 dB/octave
  • KickEQ Bass Boost: increase the bass level between 0dB and +6dB via the rotary control; centered at 40Hz

Subsonic Filter: The amplifier features a non-defeatable 25Hz Subsonic Filter with a 24dB/octave slope. The Subsonic Filter rolls off extremely low frequencies that can't be cleanly reproduced by the amplifier and subwoofers. This reduces distortion and helps the amp run more efficiently.

Mounting: The efficient Class-D Kicker CX Series amplifiers can be mounted vertically, if desired, with the included mounting brackets. When mounted vertically, the dimensions are:

  • Height: 6⅞"
  • Length: 8⅝"
  • Width: 2⅜"

Auto Turn-on: The amplifier has two methods of turning on: +12V and DC Offset. The preferred method is to run an 18-gauge wire from the remote turn-on lead of the source unit to the Remote (REM) terminal on the amp. When a +12V signal is detected on the wire, the amplifier will turn on. If your source unit lacks a remote turn-on lead (a factory head unit, for example), you can choose to turn on the amplifier via the DC Offset method. When a DC offset is detected (>2.5 volts) on the speaker-level inputs, the amplifier automatically turns on.

Vehicle Integration: The CXA800.1 amplifier features Kicker's FIT 2+ (Fail-safe Integration Technology 2 PLUS) technology, providing near-universal compatibility with stock and aftermarket radios. Start/Stop vehicle compatibility and the ability to accept factory input signals as high as 40-volts make the CXA800.1 compatible with almost every vehicle and factory or aftermarket radio.

Wire Connections: The CXA800.1 has set screw terminals for power, ground, and turn-on lead (REM). The power and ground terminals will accept up to 4 gauge wire (recommended), and the turn-on lead will accept up to 8 gauge (18-gauge recommended). The set screws are loosened/tightened with the supplied 3mm Allen wrench. The speaker outputs are slotted, screw-down terminals, which will accommodate bare wire or spade connectors. The speaker slots are 0.335" wide.

External Fuse: The amplifier does not include a built-in fuse, therefore an external fuse should be placed on the power wire, within 18" of the battery. It is recommended that a 4-gauge amplifier wiring kit and an 80-amp external fuse be used when installing the amplifier.

Input Signal: The CXA800.1 accepts either high (speaker-level) or low (line-level) input signals on the RCA inputs, selectable using the input level switch on the end of the amp. When using a speaker-level input signal, add the optional Kicker KiSL speaker-level to RCA adapter. The input sensitivity is 125mV-5V (low) or 1V-40V (high).

Preamp Output: Using either a speaker-level or line-level input feeds the stereo RCA output, which passes the audio signal to another amplifier or component. This allows you to daisy-chain another amplifier without having to run RCA cables from the head unit to the second amp.

Optional Wired Remote: The optional CXARC wired remote can be added to remotely control the subwoofer channel output level of the amplifier. The CXARC's control knob can be mounted near the driver's seat, and the control's cable extended to the amplifier location.

Certified Power: Each amplifier is tested when it comes off of the assembly line. Tests are run for Total Harmonic Distortion, Signal-to-Noise Ratio, Protection Circuit, and Total Power Output. A Certified Power certificate with model and serial number is included with each amp with the measured power output figure, and a pass/fail grade for the other tests.

Q
Will this sub amplifier work with 2 kicker comp gold 10 subs?
jorge  Jan 04, 2024
1 answer
A
This amp would be a great match, Jorge. A pair of the Kicker Comp Gold 10"s in the link below can handle a total of 800-watts RMS and the pair of dual voice-coil 4-ohm subwoofers can be wired to show 1-ohm at the amp, getting exactly 800-watts RMS from the Kicker 46CXA800.1T! Proper installation and setup of the amp is always required to avoid damage to your subwoofers, and we provide lifetime Technical Support with every purchase to help you get up and running if you are tackling the job yourself. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_206GOLD10/Kicker-Comp-Gold-10.html

Q
CXA800.1 manual received with amp says low level input is 250mv-5v however the manual online says 250mv-10v. Which is correct?
gleisure  Sep 24, 2023
1 answer
A
I would be happy to help, Greg. I can confirm that our information provided by Kicker is a 5v maximum input voltage when using the RCA low-level input.

Q
Would this work good with 1 Kicker Q-Class 42CWQ102CompQ Series 10" subwoofer with dual 2-ohm voice coils?
matthew  Jun 20, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Matthew, and thank you for your question. A bit over powered at 800 watts if you wire the sub at 1 ohm. The sub is rated for 700, and at 1 ohm the amp does 800.
hogan  Jun 20, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Hello I have a kicker 46cxa800.1t. I'm wanting to get 2 kicker lt7 10". Im just wondering should I get 4ohm or 2ohm. and what is the best way to wire it up?
tory  May 18, 2023
1 answer
A
In this case, you should consider the 46L7T104, which feature dual 4-ohm voice coils. Each subwoofer will need its voice coils wired together in a parallel configuration to achieve an overall 2-ohm load per each sub. The two subs should be wired back to the amplifier in a parallel configuration so that the two subs together present the amplifier a 1-ohm load, which will allow you to have the most power from the amplifier to the subs (800w RMS, or 400w RMS).
zachary  May 18, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Would be running this solo amp at 600 watts @ 2 ohms. I would hate to kill the amp or the car battery. Will this be compatible with the auto start/stop on a 2023 Subaru Outback touring xt?
omnihegemonist  Feb 22, 2023
1 answer
A
Unfortunately, this would not be ideal for a vehicle with start/stop functionality. Kicker's 47KEY500.1 does have this capability, but does not offer as much power for your sub. Nevertheless, here's a link to it for reference: www.crutchfield.com/p_20647KEY50/item.html

Q
Is this a good amp for a single 15inch punch P3??
sebastian  Nov 13, 2022
1 answer
A
This would work nicely with a P3D4-15. When presented a 2-ohm impedance, this amplifier outputs 600w RMS, which matches the RMS rating of the sub perfectly. Here's a link to the P3D4-15 for reference: www.crutchfield.com/p_575P3D415/item.html

Q
I have a pair of CT Sounds 6.5 350 Rms , dual 4 ohm, I was wondering if I can use the 1 ohm on the amp, will it damage my subs nor the amp?
carlos  Sep 16, 2022
1 answer
A
It is possible that this amplifier may provide too much power for your subs. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.
zachary  Sep 16, 2022 (Staff)
Q
What ohm subwoofer would i need to get maximum power from this amplifier? It's a single 10" setup. Just want to buy the right sub.
christopher  Aug 07, 2022
1 answer
A
If you are just getting one subwoofer you would want to get a dual voice coil 2 ohm subwoofer which can be wired in parallel down to a 1 ohm load to get 800 watts from that amp.
arielle  Aug 07, 2022 (Staff)
Q
I have 2, 1200watt peak, 300watt rms sub woofers. Would this amp work to run both?
kaden  Jul 27, 2022
1 answer
A
If both of those subs wire together down to a 2 ohm load then that Kicker amp would work, otherwise it's not the best match. If you're not sure then you are more than welcome to give one of our advisors a call at 800.324.9695 and we can verify for you.
arielle  Jul 28, 2022 (Staff)
Q
Can I use 8 gauge wire for this amplifier?
jose  Jun 30, 2022
1 answer
A
We recommend 4-gauge wire for this amplifier. If the power wire length is shorter (under 10'), then you could technically use 8-gauge wire, although 4-gauge would still be the better option to ensure that the amplifier can draw power quickly and efficiently.
zachary  Jun 30, 2022 (Staff)
Q
What size power wire do I use with 600 rms class D amp & a 300 rms class AB amp ?
enrique  Jun 19, 2022
1 answer
A
It is best to consider the recommended fuse ratings for them and add them together to get a combined power draw. Once that is known along with the length of the power cable needed to complete the install, this chart can be used to determine which gauge (or size) of wire should be used: https://www.crutchfield.com/learn/learningcenter/car/cable_gauge_chart.html

will this amp work with the Kicker 44DCWC122?
jakob  Dec 20, 2020

Looks like each speaker is 300w @ 2ohm, so the 600w total rating for the box would be a match for a single cxa800.1 amp. Just follow kickers suggested gain setting steps.

Hey, the speakers u have i cant really say if they will handle the power the amp gives out, due to the fact they are 4 ohms. Im running 2 ohms kicker 12s on that same amp and they hit pretty hard and can handle the amp power. Not sure if that helps, but wish u luck...
zekeya  Oct 31, 2020
A
Yes it will
erik  Oct 30, 2020
A
Hell yes! Got it on 2 jl audio 12s and hits hard!! Its 800w just be sure your subs can handle it
beau  Oct 30, 2020
A
Yes- it will run them fine. If I see correctly, the subs are 4 ohm... if you wire them properly, you can get them down to a 2 ohm load.. The amp would push a max of 600 Watts to them. Should be more than enough for those subs.
chris  Oct 30, 2020
A
I would say it's too much power. This is a single channel "mono" amplifier so you would be running it at 2 ohms and this amp does 600 watts rms at 2 ohms. Your suggested subwoofers are rated for 300 watts rms.
charles  Oct 30, 2020
Q
I have this amp what would be the best subs to get could I use two comp r 10s with no problem or maybe even the 12s?

A
I use the dual compr 12's and they sound awesome and has plenty of power!
kyle joseph  Oct 28, 2020
A
The amp will definitely supply more than sufficient power to either. The difference is that the 12's will handle more power. Compare the RMS power handling for the amp and the speakers not the max watts.
daniel  Oct 28, 2020
A
I have not installed this Amp yet. The reason is because it's a Mono AMP and was told it will only supply 1 subwoofer. Waiting to purchase a single slim sub for this unit. So you can't hook 2 of anything to it-just one bass sub. Hope that helps you.

Will this pair up with the kicker comp c 44TCWC104 no issue?
daniel  Jan 02, 2020

A
It'd work but you can save $ and get the Kicker 46CXA400.1T instead, then get the 44TCWC102 instead of the 44TCWC104 and you'll get the same 300w output.
cory  Nov 02, 2020
A
It should with no problem. Very compact amp. That amp drives my son's 2 kicker comp vr 12's at 1ohm
james  Jan 03, 2020
A
YES I HAVE IT PAIRED TO A LS7 44TL7S102 WHICH IS RATED FOR 600RMS AND 1200WATTS PEAK AND IT POWERS AND PUMPS PERFECTLY. THE AMP COMES FROM KICKER WITH A CERTIFICATE STATING ITS TESTED RMS WHICH WAS ACTUALLY HIGHER THAN 600 ON MINE.
dylan  Jan 02, 2020
A
Yes, absolutely. The Kicker Comp C 44TCWC104 has RMS of 300 watts and peak of 600 watts. The Kicker 46CXA800. 1T amp is 300 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (600 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms) 800 watts RMS x 1 at 1 ohm. That's plenty of power and then some.
daniel  Jan 02, 2020
A
I would think so it pushes my w6 10" hard and doesn't even get warm.
aaron  Jan 02, 2020
A
Yes this amp is perfect for that subwoofer. This amp is rated for 300 watts RMS at 4 ohms, which is exactly what you need for that sub.
braeden  Jan 02, 2020
A
It will work. However, the sub is a 4ohm woofer. If you want to reach maximum peak, choose a 2ohm sub.

A
I don't really know because I have not installed my kicker yet.

I would say yes, not sure how many watts though. This link is the sub I wanted and asked crutchfield what they would recommend and they chose this amp which was well worth it. Feel free to get their advice. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_5751P3D210/Rockford-Fosgate-P3D2-10.html?omnews=15762897
bobby  Dec 03, 2019
A
Yes you can power Two subs and the watts depends on the ohms of the subs. I believe it's does 800 watts at 1 ohm. 600 at ohm and 300 at 4ohm. So look at the rms watts and ohm of the subs you wanna use
