Miracle work on Factory Radio

Guest from Williamsport, PA on 4/3/2023

Forget any other LOC, this thing rocks. In a Honda Accord, the factory radio has a cruddy EQ on the signal that was designed to help protect their speakers, which basically means that the low end bass is cut out all together. This KeyLOC restores that low end bass and brings the signal back to a full range signal. Very happy with the results, it brought my sub back to life.

Pros: Easy install, runs off a tap a fuse quick set up, easy instructional video Works exactly as intended

Cons: none that I can think of

Saved My Odyssey

Last year, I installed amps, speakers and subs in my 2017 Honda Odyssey. After lots of tweaking and updates, I was still not hearing the sound I wanted. The factory stereo has some odd eq/processing that is difficult to work out. The Keyloc was my last attempt, before returning to factory equipment. I'd read that some people thought the Keyloc was clunky to set up and operate, so I was skeptical. I was very relieved that it was easy to use and effective. Finally, I am enjoying music on my commute again. If you're trying to overcome all-pass filters or time delay from your factory stereo, I highly recommend the Keyloc. As always, Kicker and Crutchfield are a winning combo. -Corey

Best Line Out Converter for Factory HU

This almost completely undid the awful factory EQ curve in my Subaru. It took some trial and error to find the right volume to program it at. 80% volume (30/38) on the head unit turned out to be the sweet spot in my case. It will not 100% fix bass roll-off, but it does massively mitigate it. I assume this is due to there being no bass signal at all from the head unit for it to restore at extremely high volume settings. Non-issue for me since the volume where that happens is beyond the point of hearing damage. My only gripe is they don't make a 4 channel version so I had to buy and wire two of them to retain all factory features. I tried using RCA Y-cables for 4 channels and while that did work, it cost me the fader and caused the navigation and phone sound to come out the back speakers.

Pros: Un-ruins the sound from factory head units Tiny and fits anywhere Cheap for what it does

Cons: No 4 channel version available Should be able to set it's own input gain automatically

Didn't work for me. Seemingly simple 1 page tuning instructions within the box, but this same keyloc made for kicker by another manufacturer has many pages of setup (tuning part) instructions online. I could not get any frequency to light up other than the lows. During this process the keyloc also ruined a pair of kicker 6.5's during the test/tune sequence during a brief vhf burst. Speakers were flat afterwards. Thank goodness Crutchfield has customer friendly returns though I'm still out the return shipping fee on both items.

Pros: Cost/value IF it had worked.

Cons: It didn't work.

KEYLOC Fix

After much deliberation and planning even the best DSP need a little help. I started with an amp with internal DSP and with some frustrating tuning and dialing in, I just wasn't satisfied with the sound output and clarity. Did some research and talked to a few guys I know who have similar sound requirements in our lives (PRO AV designer). I went with the KEYLOC, it promised to clean up the output curve on the factory head unit (something I want to maintain). IT DID! The setup process works as simply as the YouTube video from Kicker says. Following instructions to take my factory audio curve and correct it to flatten the sound was easy. Then running the 12v turn on and RCAs to may amp even easier. Now I have a clean balanced signal into my amp, letting the DSP in amp handle the output processing and tuning the system to my liking. I haven't added a subwoofer yet (plan to) but for now the Mid and High output is super clean and punchy when I want and smooth when I need it. Thank you Kicker!

Pros: Works as designed well worth the small investment brings headunit output to life

Cons: small buttons (big fingers) nothing else...don't change it!

Kicker keyloc and key200.4 amp is an excellent combo for stock radio

Bernard from Philadelphia, PA on 10/10/2022

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I added the kicker keyloc to a kicker key200.4 biamped. It is an excellent combo. The Honda Accord hybrid 10th gen base model stock radio is terrible but impossible to replace with an aftermarket head unit. I started with only the key 200.4 a year ago, and while it was way better than stock, it was never quite right. There seemed to be gaps in the frequency range. Couldn't dial it in, and the class D amp was surprisingly running warm. I didn't expect any heat from a class d amp. I put the keyloc in front of the amp and after the setup it sends a flat signal from the stock headunit to the amp. Follow all the instructions. For the 200.4, When they say avoid ambient noise outside the car they mean it. Believe it or not, a busy street seemed to mess up the auto setup. I went to a park where there was no ambient noise and finally the combo of keyloc and key amp sounded the best my Honda Accord hybrid ever sounded. The stock radio has been transformed into an excellent sound system while keeping all the car infotainment features. The amp runs cool now.

Pros: Pretty easy to install Instructions are good. Read the whole thing and follow carefully Restores full frequency range for amp

Cons: Does not come with 2amp fuse

Must have piece of equipment for OE integration

Kevin from Seattle, WA on 8/6/2022

Verified employee review (What's this?)

If you are adding an amplifier to a OEM headunit, this is a must have piece of equipment. without it, i'd have to constantly adjust my bass output whenever I turn up or down the headunit volume. With KEYLOC, the bass output is "stable" across the whole volume range. Aside from it's smart EQ functionality, you can also match OEM output to KEYLOC input sensitivity, so the cleanest possible signal is used to convert to low level output. it's also capable of putting out 10V of pre-amp voltage, where less gain is needed on the amplifier side to achieve maximum output, so less chance of amplifying unwanted noise like engine whine. For how much it is, it's worth every penny. I also considered AudioControl LC2i, but went with KEYLOC instead, because for 50 bucks more, KEYLOC is a much smarter device with test tones to benchmark settings, where LC2i can only control "threshold" and "level".

Pros: 1. perfectly match OEM signal 2. corrects bass roll off 3. 10V high voltage output (less gain needed at amplifier side) 4. sophisticated EQ correction with downloadable test tones.

Cons: (Really nit picking here....) 1. connectors feels abit flimsy, you can feel it wiggling on the main IC board. 2. wish it looks more slick and "modern".

I used the KEYLOC as a hi low converter for my stock radio to get a subwoofer preout. The setup was easy once you download the proper tracks. I have a Alpine amp that can accept 8 volts of signal, the KEYLOC had plenty of signal for my amp so that I could leave my gain all way down. It did exactly what I needed it to do. This is a great product I highly recommend this.

Pros: Fixes alot of the factory wizardry

Cons: Not a 4 channel

Kicker 47KEYLOC Smart Line-Out Converter

Anson from Minneapolis, MN on 3/14/2022

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Great idea. BUT it has a couple fatal flaws. This is designed as a smart DSP active LOC for modern car stereos (display, integrated controls, maybe factory amp) right? So modern cars. I have a 2022 Hyundai Kona and it has constant DC offset (about 6VDC). Constant! Guess what that means for the Kicker 47KEYLOC? It never shuts off. That means the remote in useless because it won't shutfoff. So, I worked around that by switching the ground in with a switched 12V from my fuse box. So in other words, it has to be hard shutoff. Still, at this point, I was planning on still using the KEYLOC47 remote out to turn my sub amp. Nope, this brings us to the second issue. With the 12VDC running to it and (like I said, switching the ground on/off to power it), guess what? The KEYLOC47 passively puts 12VDC on the remote out, even with the ground physically disconnected!!!! It may or may not relate to circuitry that seems my constant DC offset. So in other words, this thing missed the design mark for what it is targeted for. Modern factory stereo upgrades. Nope.

Pros: Solid and easy DSP flattening which really works well.

Cons: Poorly designed power control, input and output

A must buy

If you are reading this..BUY THIS PRODUCT! Seriously, it's great and where the future of car audio is going, eventually I can see this being incorporated into amplifiers for more ease of installation (2-5 yrs from now is my guess). If you have to use your factory radio (most cars don't allow changing) then this will give you very clean sound and make your subwoofer pound!! I was running one JL Audio 12W3 from a high level signal into my mono amp and then changed it to this Kicker unit going low level, not joking.I gained about 50% more bass that is so loud, so clean, that it's hard to believe. I have a bass knob so I can adjust the bass where needed as it can get very loud! I was apprehensive about the installation process but it's not too bad and just followed the set up directions exactly how Kicker outlines. Once set, you don't adjust it again. This is the future for car audio

Pros: Great product, worth the 100 plus dollars, very clean sound output and made my subwoofer pound.

Cons: Kicker should supply a 2amp fuse with fuse holder for this price point. If you buy a Kicker Key 200.4 it comes with the fuse holder and required fuse, should be the same with this product for the price. I ordered the additional 2 amp fuse and fuse holder from another retailer for less than 10 bucks but still.

I didn't know what to expect. For context, this is being connected to an OEM system in my BMW, using high level subwoofer output. The stock system pumps out 125w RMS per channel. Tried a few systems including a JL VXI Amp but my voltage was too high. I tried a cheap HI to LO converter with my JL amp, but the quality of the base for my woofer wasn't good. I wanted a DSP that could handle up to 400w RMS. Crutchfield support pointed me to this unit and after installing and calibrating I am simply blown AWAY. If you're dealing with any type of OEM system and pumping in god knows what for a source, this'll clean it up and pass on a strong flat signal to your AMP. Stop reading, just buy it!

This has been an significant upgrade to my previous LOC! 0 distortion and great sound with gain levels on both the input and outputs gives great control of sound. And the input indicator is great to know what signals are being used to take any guessing out of the equation. I've tried other top Line Out Converters on the market and I must say this is the best by far. Clean signal from my factory speaker inputs to my after market P1000 Rockford amp. Couldn't ask for anything more. Thanks Crutchfield. I've wouldn't ever came across this product without your site. Great buy.

Pros: Simplistic design and settings. Straight forward and input indicators

I previously tried an lc7i wired on all 4 channels and summed for a subwoofer out. The factory head unit in my Honda cut bass at 40hz down to pretty much nothing at 20hz. The lc7i restored SOME of the missing bass but after plugging in the oscilloscope I could still see what was missing. The Keyloc had a slightly more complicated set up but after that- my signal is now perfect! The lows have been fully restored all the way down to 20hz! No more gaps in frequency bands.

KEYLOC Solved my factory signal issue

Neil from MT WASHINGTON, KY on 12/5/2020

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I am now a believer. I installed this Kicker KEYLOC in my 2017 Subaru WRX STI. My car is just the base model so no fancy factory audio. The factory head unit in my car will not send any low range frequencies to the factory speakers. Also, there is no factory sub signal to tap into for line-out to aftermarket amp. I ended up tapping into the rear door speakers with a PAC converter and quickly realized my sub was missing low frequencies. Only punchy bass was audible, no lows. I stumbled upon the KEYLOC and gave it a shot. I'm glad I did because it was able to restore the missing lows from my factory signal! Hope this helps someone else.

Pros: It fixes factory signal

Cons: The "Low/Hi" toggle button popped off when I was inserting the wiring harness and I still haven't found it. It's ok though because I only run it in low mode and it can still be toggled on/off via the plastic base under where the button used to be. Still 5 stars because I don't really care about the button.
