Overbuilt? More like built just right

Kicker's 40CWR122 12” subwoofer comes equipped with a tough, polypropylene cone that stays rigid during intense play sessions so you hear accurate bass. A custom-designed back and top plate give the woofer plenty of room to travel, while the durable rubber surround helps to control cone movement during a heavy workout. This sub uses extensive venting in its heavy steel basket to shrug off heat, so you can count on reliable performance.

Say hello to system flexibility

This Kicker CompR will handle up to 500 watts RMS so make sure you have an amplifier that'll do it justice. Its dual 2-ohm voice coils give you more wiring options when setting up your system, and this versatile sub works well in sealed or ported enclosures.

Features

Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2-ohm voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. A switch on the speaker terminal allows you to easily change from parallel (the woofer presents a 1-ohm load) to series (the woofer presents a 4-ohm load) wiring for the voice coils.

UniPlate Construction: The woofer features a one-piece UniPlate construction with a vented, extended pole piece and backplate. This unique design provides the following benefits:

  • Optimizes heat transfer efficiency for cooler operation
  • Eliminates erratic magnetic flux in the voice coil gap
  • Releases pressure under the suspension for uniform cone movement
  • Prevents the voice coil from bottoming out, and the resulting damage

Tinsel Leads: CompR subwoofers use Spiralead tinsel-lead technology; the tinsel lead wires are woven into the spider to relieve mechanical stress.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Enclosure Applications: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 1.0 ft³
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 4.6 ft³

Vented Box: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. Kicker recommends ported enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 1.75 ft³ with a 12.5" x 2.5" x 20" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 2.25 ft³ with a 12.5" x 3" x 20.5" slot port

Q
Will the kicker cxa600.1 mono amp be enough power and right hook up for a single kicker compr 12??
[ Darrien  May 26, 2016 ]

A
I have the kx 800.1 powering 2 compr 12's in a ported box and I still have plenty of room to throw more power down
[ James  May 28, 2016 ]
A
I run a massive audio N4 mono amp for my two kicker comp r 12. I don't think your cxa600 will have enough peak power seeing as the comp r 12 can handle 1000 watts peak. I would look into the massive Audio Amps, the n4 has plenty of power and great quality for around the same price as the cxa600. I believe I paid around $270 for mine.

Yes and it will sound great!

Q
How would i wire these. If i were to buy two 2ohm woofers how would i wire them to get a total of a 2ohm load the whole ohm switch really messes with me?
[ josh  Feb 26, 2016 ]

A
You just have to put the switch in the middle that's how you will get the full output

Would call Crutchfield and ask them. They helped me with the little stuff which ends up being the most important stuff.
[ Jose  Feb 26, 2016 ]
A
Put the switch on 4 ohm and wire in parallel then the final impedance will be 2. Thats what i did with my setup. A 2 ohm stable mono amp @ 1000 watts
[ ROBERT  Feb 26, 2016 ]
A
Put the switch to 4ohms on both then connect the subs together positive to positive, negative to negative, the run then run it to your amp
[ Darren  Feb 26, 2016 ]
Q
When pairing this with a Pioneer GM-D8601 (800w @1, 500w@2), should I purchase this for use @ 1ohm or the 4ohm version wired for 2ohm load?
[ Michael  Jul 30, 2015 ]

A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: If you pair the Kicker CWR122 with that Pioneer you will under power those subs. I would recommend a different amp. The Jensen DUB A11000D would match well at 1 ohm http://www.crutchfield.com/p_110DUB11KD/Jensen-DUBa11000D.html?tp=35834 If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
I want to put this in a box that has a mounting depth of 5 5/8" (custom box for a 2014 Silverado double cab). This calls for 5.5". Will this work? I'm using a Kicker ZX1000.1 class D amp. It used to push a Kicker L7 so I assume it will work. Any help is appreciated.

A
It might because the sub has a cooling port at the bottom of the sub that lets air flow thru it. If that is blocked then it might over heat. If u can find a spacer to put between the box and sub then u should be good to go. Just measure for clearance of the sub if ur box is under the rear seats.
[ ROBERT  Mar 11, 2015 ]
A
I wasn't sure if that 1/8" really mattered
[ Ben  Mar 11, 2015 ]
A
This sub needs 5 3/4" mounting depth. Thats technically 5 6/8". Your box's mounting depth is 5 5/8", right? If so then this sub might not fit your box because the sub is 1/8" bigger. Hopefully my response is helpful to you

Q
I am looking to put 2 of these in a pro bass box. Just wondering if I need 4ohm or 2ohm if I'm buying 2. And what would be a good amp? Really looking for some serious bass. Thanks.

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
How do you wire for 2 ohm if the switch only has 1 ohm or 4 ohm?
[ Elijah  Jul 17, 2014 ]
2 answers
A
you cant, each coil is 2 ohm but you have to use both. if you get a dual 4ohm then the settings choices will be 2ohm and 8ohm
[ Thomas  Jul 21, 2014 ]
A
Not positive, but putting the setting on 4 ohm level; then put a 4 ohm resistor across speaker wire to each speaker. When two resistors of the same value are parallel together, the resistance becomes half. So radio output will see a total of 4 ohms, and speaker will split the load, to have 2 ohm value on it. My best guess. U may have to use multiple resistors to add up to 4 ohms, like 4- one ohms, 2- two ohms, results will be close enough.
