About the Kicker Solo-Baric L7 S10L74

Kicker Solo-Baric L7 subwoofers have a look and a sound that is sure to set your system apart from the pack. The unique square shape demands that you take immediate notice of the S10L74 10" subwoofer, and an aluminum-treated cone with a thick Santoprene rubber surround handles the kind of power that guarantees you'll be livin' loud.
And this sub is loaded with extras that have made Kicker such a dominant name in bass. An enhanced cast-aluminum basket minimizes resonance from the motor assembly, while a rear cone brace controls flexing that can impair sound quality. Perimeter cooling helps it run hard and long without distortion, and the dual 4-ohm coil design offers extra wiring flexibility.
While the original Solo-Baric is recognized as the first small sealed box woofer, this L7 sub is more versatile it works great in a sealed or vented box. So whether you prefer your bass tight and punchy, gutbusting, or just way down low, this subwoofer delivers.
Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. Most car amplifiers are stable down to 2 ohms in standard mode, or 4 ohms in bridged operation.

Note
Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 4 ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2 ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8 ohm load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4 ohm load.
Square Design: By making the Solo-Baric square, Kicker is giving you the most possible cone area (or Sd) for a given size baffle, 16% to 20% more area than a conventional subwoofer. More cone area means the Solo-Baric L7 moves more air, resulting in louder, deeper bass.
Cone Materials: An aluminum deposit impregnated cone is used resulting in greater rigidity for less cone flex and less distortion. In addition, the cone is also very resistant to environmental extremes. A rear cone brace provides added strength and reduces cone flex under stress.
Surround: The tough, flexible santoprene rubber surround has a long-throw, positive-roll design, which controls extreme cone excursion and is highly tear-resistant. The corners of the surround are ribbed to ensure linear cone motion. The surround is stitched to the reinforced cone edge, making separation between them virtually impossible.
Inverted Structural Dome: The Inverted Structural Dome replaces a conventional dustcap and locks into the cone for unmatched structural integrity and greatly reduced cone flexing/resonance.
Patented Enhanced BAM (Basket And Motor) Assembly: The cast aluminum basket features a low profile, open design to provide a solid anti-resonant foundation for the motor assembly.
Spider: The durable resin-impregnated poly-cotton spider provides precise coil alignment and critical cone motion control.
Voice Coil: The multi-layer voice coil and Kapton former create a superior magnetic field and effectively dissipate heat.
Chromed UniPlate Construction: The UniPlate construction combines the backplate and extended pole piece into a single unit to maximize magnetic efficiency and minimize alignment problems often caused by two-piece construction. The bottom of the UniPlate is chromed to provide enhanced heat transfer for cool operation and maximum power handling.
Bumped Back Plate: The deep bumped back plate lets the voice coil reach maximum excursion without bottoming-out.
Perimeter Venting: The perimeter venting cooling system continuously pumps hot air away from the voice coil, replacing it with cool outside air.
Gaskets: The one piece front beauty ring and separate one-piece rear gasket insure an airtight seal and provide enhanced cosmetics.
Rubber Magnet Boot: A black rubber boot covers the outside edge of the magnet structure to improve the cosmetics of the woofer and protect the magnet from chipping or breaking during installation.
Tinsel Leads: The speaker features sleeved high-power tinsel lead wires to resist breakage and power-robbing resistance losses.
Speaker Terminals: The terminals are spring loaded and nickel-plated for solid connections with speaker wire up to 11 gauge.
Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker Solo-Baric L7 speakers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The high-performance suspension system makes the speakers very stiff "out-of-the-box". Approximately 2 weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A "broken-in" subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.
Power Handling: When the subwoofer is mounted in a sealed enclosure that has a volume from 0.66 cu/ft to 1.0 cu/ft, the woofer can handle up to 600 watts RMS. When the woofer is mounted in a vented enclosure, its power handling varies depending upon the size of the enclosure. In a 1.25 cu/ft vented enclosure, the woofer can handle up to 500 watts RMS. In a 1.75 cu/ft vented enclosure, the woofer can handle up to 525 watts RMS. In a 2.25 cu/ft vented enclosure, the woofer can handle up to 550 watts RMS.
Recommended Sealed Box Volume:
- Compact (minimum enclosure volume): 0.66 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 600 watts RMS
- SQ (maximum enclosure volume): 1.0 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 600 watts RMS
Recommended Vented Box Volume:
- Compact: 1.25 cu/ft; 2.5" x 11.25" port opening; 19.75" port depth; the woofer can handle up to 500 watts RMS
- Street Bass: 1.75 cu/ft; 2.75" x 11.25" port opening; 17.75" port depth; the woofer can handle up to 525 watts RMS
- SPL/Deep Bass: 2.25 cu/ft; 3" x 11.25" port opening; 18" port depth; the woofer can handle up to 550 watts RMS
Note: The power handling specifications listed with the vented enclosure recommendations apply only when a 25Hz, 24dB/octave subsonic filter (sold separately) is used with this woofer; if a subsonic filter is not used, the power rating will decrease and excessive port noise can occur.
Cutout: The woofer will not mount in a standard enclosure with a round cutout. Instead, the woofer must be mounted in an enclosure with a 9.5" x 9.5" square opening.
Manual Note: The specifications printed in the manual are for the 2 ohm model. The 4 ohm model specifications in the Crutchfield database were obtained directly from Kicker.

These subs are exceptional, I recently purchased 2 for my Jeep Grand Cherokee, surprisingly enough; 1 would have been more than enough. The sound quality is great and it was really easy to install because it was pre-inserted into it's enclosure. This is a GREAT buy.
