Our take on the Kicker SSMB8

Looking for some extra low-end kick? Kicker's SS Series SSMB8 8" midbass speakers will put some serious frosting on your low-frequency cake!

Looking for some extra low-end kick? Kicker's SS Series SSMB8 8" midbass speakers will put some serious frosting on your low-frequency cake!

If you're building a 4-way system (with bass, midbass, midrange, and high frequencies amplified separately), install these super-slim (2-5/16" deep) midbass speakers in your vehicle's rear deck to add awesome punch to your rear sub. Or, custom-mount them in your front doors to lock the bass into the front soundstage — the kick drum and bass guitar will be in your face!

These rugged speakers feature Tri-Tech™ cones, formed from sandwiched layers of woven carbon fiber, polypropylene, and foam. These ultra-light cones team up with heavy-duty Santoprene rubber surrounds and low-profile stamped steel baskets for killer performance that'll reinforce the low-frequency output of your entire system.

If you don't have room in your car for a subwoofer/box combo, the SSMB8s have the power handling capability and low-end response to operate as stand-alone free-air subs.

Kicker SSMB8

Lord of Bass from South Florida on 3/28/2007

It really helps with the bass above sub level, in the 90hz-200hz range. Before, my L7's were drowning out most of the bass above 80hz, where the majority of frequencies are for bass guitars and such. Now, I get a very good blend for a complete, 4-stage sound experience. I recommend an amp with no more than 400 watts total RMS, as my Kicker SX600.2 is a little too beefy, and because the SSMB8 is shallow design, it bottoms out easily.

Product Research

Tri-Tech Woofer Cones: The Tri-Tech woofer cones are constructed of woven carbon-poly, Rohacell foam, and carbon-poly backings, for outstanding power handling and performance. The cones are very light and very strong, providing extended frequency response.

Butyl Rubber Surrounds: The woofers use butyl rubber surrounds. Butyl rubber efficiently absorbs edge reflections that can cause audible distortion, resulting in clearer bass performance. The thickness of each surround varies in a way that provides high linearity and a balanced driver system.

Stamped Steel Baskets: Each woofer features an anti-resonant stamped steel basket.

High-Temp Kapton Voice Coil Formers: Each woofer uses a high-temperature Kapton voice coil former, which is light, durable and very efficient at thermal heat transfer.

Blackened One-Piece Motor Structure: The blackened one-piece motor structure provides enhanced heat transfer for cool operation and maximum power handling.
