Kicker technology at work

Kicker's 44CWCD84 8" subwoofer features a flex-resistant polypropylene cone for hard-hitting lows without distortion, while the ribbed foam surround promotes long excursion and helps to keep the cone on target. The sub's steel basket provides a reliable foundation for big bass, and its extensive venting ensures long-lasting performance that won't break down when the bass gets heavy.

Versatile installation

This sub handles up to 200 watts RMS to bring out the punch your music's been missing, and its dual 4-ohm voice coils make it easy to get more power from your mono amplifier. This versatile sub works well in sealed or ported enclosures.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 150 and 300 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Great for Free Air setup

I used these to the upgrade the subs in my 2009 G8. I had previously installed a pair of Kicker CVRs but with the new head unit and amps I decided to also update the subs. These hit much harder than the CVRs and also sound better in a free air installation.

Great Speaker. Had to purchase a ring to install in existing cabinet.

Crutchfield customer from San Diego, CA on 4/10/2019

2001 GMC Yukon XL

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Great speaker being underutilized by a stock radio head unit. I installed this in my 2001 GMC Yukon XL which had an existing cabinet with a decayed/tattered subwoofer. The magnet was 1/2"-3/4" too deep for the existing cabinet. So had to buy a subwoofer ring online since, amazingly enough, Crutchfield does not sell them. Replaced all dead speakers in doors and with this sub-woofer installed, system actually sounds very good. Perhaps i will get a new head unit but I'm weird about my vehicles maintaining a stock appearance.

Pros: Dual Voice Coil allows 4 Ohm or 2 Ohm installation. Had to buy some speaker wire at a hardware store to make the crossover for 2 Ohm application.

Cons: While Crutchfield graciously included wiring harnesses for the door speakers, did not receive one for the sub-woofer. So had to improvise the connection.

Not a good free air sub. Terminal connectors were not straight. But does have nice tight bass. Lows are terrible and distorted!

Pros: hits good

Cons: poor low bass

2015 Acura TLX

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Wired to 2ohm to replace the stock unit in a Acura TLX. Needed some insulation around the opening and some custom brackets to fit properly, but otherwise its a solid drop in replacement. Crutchfield provided plenty of info, and all the needed speaker adapters to make the job go smooth. Very noticeable improvement over stock. Could use some additional amplification, but overall I'm happy with it so far.

Pros: Included speaker adapters Build quality

Cons: Would love speaker polarity included in instructions. Had to redo the wiring as it was out of phase on first install.

Huge upgrade over the factory sub!

D from NorCal on 11/11/2018

2018 Honda Accord EX-L

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Upgraded the factory sub in a Honda Accord EX-L. Night and day difference in depth and musicality. Wired it for 2 ohm operation, and it works well with the factory head unit. This was a no brainer fantastic upgrade. The only problem was I had to be creative in getting it to fit in the factory sub location. But worked out well in the end. Got it on sale. Who could ask for more? Thanks Crutchfield.

Pros: Depth and musicality. Solid foundation for the musical soundstage. Works well with factory amp when wired for 2 ohm operation.

Cons: Ill fitting in factory sub location, requiring creative modifications to the spot to make it fit.

These was used to replace my worn down 9 yr old Pontiac G8 rear deck subs. It is a night and day difference. These things rock with the factory amp. The only thing is, and this is no fault of Kicker or Crutchfield, I would highly recommend dynomat on the rear deck.

Pros: -Works in free-air environment -Works well with factory amp -Great balance with other speakers

Cons: -None-

Great sound in a .5 cubic foot per side box. Used two of these in Mono with a Rockford Fosgate 300.4 bridged 4 ohm to 150 watts. Absolutely pounds, I'm truly mind blown with the quality of the sound. I've always used Kicker speakers and will continue to.

Pros: Quality construction Works in a small enclosure Does not require maximum power for great sound

Q
I have a Sony DSX-A405BT Digital Media Receiver. Do I need to purchase an amplifier for this sub or can I hook it up directly to the receiver?
[ Logan  May 30, 2018 ]
3 answers
A
you need an outboard amplifier, i would use a good quality 100W or stronger amp, preferably from a name brand company like Rockford Fosgate,MTX,Alpine or even Sony
[ Charles  May 31, 2018 ]
A
I'm not really qualified to answer this question as I don't know anything about that receiver. Mine works just great on the stock GM radio without an amp although a separate sub amp would most likely make it better. I'm sure the Crutchfield guys could answer that for you.
[ JEFFREY  May 31, 2018 ]
A
I think so. You probably wont have the power to drive the woofer enough to get the full performance of the woofer though.

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your sub I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.
