About the Kicker CompR 43CWR84

Overbuilt? More like built just right

Kicker designed their CompR subs for people who love to hear strong bass in their music. The CompR 43CWR84 8” subwoofer comes equipped with a tough, polypropylene cone that stays rigid during intense play sessions so you hear accurate bass. A custom-designed back and top plate give the woofer plenty of room to travel, while the durable rubber surround helps to control cone movement during a heavy workout. This sub uses extensive venting in its heavy steel basket to shrug off heat, so you can count on reliable performance.

Say hello to system flexibility

This Kicker CompR will handle up to 300 watts RMS so make sure you have an amplifier that'll do it justice. Its dual 4-ohm voice coils give you more wiring options when setting up your system, and this versatile sub works well in sealed or ported enclosures.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 225 and 450 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Features

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4Ω voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Sealed Enclosures: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures from 0.4 ft³ to 1.0 ft³.

Vented Enclosures: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. Kicker recommends ported enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 0.8 ft³ with an 8" x 1.5" x 20-3/4" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 1.2 ft³ with an 8" x 2" x 19-1/8" slot port

Note: Although smaller than optimal, the prefabricated enclosures we list on the accessory page produce very good results.

Not only is it a perfect fit for the Factory enclosure for 8" subwoofer in the cargo compartment of 2007 Acura MDX but it's the same Kicker model (CVR) that has served me for 9 fantastic years. Eventually something has to give just like anything else that gets old. For those who would like to know the max depth of a 2007 Acura MDX cargo subwoofer enclosure (original/factory), it's around 4.7"-4.8" [ Emmanuel  Jul 26, 2016 ]

Q
Will this fit as a replacement for a subwoofer in 2008 jeep wrangler x ?
[ Chad  Dec 31, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
Sorry, no. We found the Kicker to be too deep for the available mounting space in the stock subwoofer location. You will find all of the models we do recommend to fit by using the "Find What Fits" application on our website here: https://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx?lp=%2fCar%2foutfitmycar%2fmycar.aspx Keep in mind; most any aftermarket sub will also need an aftermarket amp to power it properly. I went with a low wattage amp..to me when you have a quality low wattage amp it allows you to put out more volume without compromising the quality of the sound. Those subs are great..mines are still bangin.
[ Patrick  Oct 30, 2017 ]
A
It would depends I if the amp would be used to power other speakers. I'm runninng a sounds stream 5 channel for four mid and high, plus powering one sub. The 8 inch competition sub demands power, I can only imagine what two sounds like.
[ ANTONIO D  Oct 29, 2017 ]
Q
Can this be bottom mounted?

A
Yes, the Kicker CompR 43CWR84 can be either top or bottom mounted depending on what works best for your vehicle/application. If you would like to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
