About the Kicker VSS PowerStage PCOCRE15

Transform your Colorado or Canyons factory sound system

You've got a great set of wheels, but something's missing: the sound of the factory radio leaves a lot to be desired. Low power, less-then-ideal speaker placement, and dialed-back bass all contribute to the unhappy situation. This VSS Powerstage system upgrade by Kicker will transform your Colorado or Canyon's stock radio and speakers into a high-fidelity sound system capable of giving you full, accurate, and richly-textured musical pleasure. And it does it without changing the look of your truck's interior or dash.

It plugs into your factory wiring with no cutting

The heart of the system is the Powerstage processor/amp module that plugs in between your car's stock receiver and speakers with the help of a GM-specific wiring harness. Kicker's technicians measured the acoustics of the truck's interior, then developed a program to get the strongest and cleanest audio performance possible from the stock speakers. The Powerstage module breathes new life into your vehicle's factory system, automatically correcting for the limitations of the factory speakers, then adding plenty of power so the speakers can sound their best.

Of course, there's a subwoofer with it

It wouldn't be a sonic upgrade without a subwoofer to bring bass magic to the mix. Kicker includes a custom-fit, powered subwoofer that mounts under the rear seat. A 200-watt amplifier provides the power you need to feel the bass from the 8" sub in the front seat.

The documentation calls it a 10" sub, but it looks and measures more like an 8". Plug and play install for my 2016 Colorado. There is a convenient little pass-through nipple in the factory firewall grommet that can be clipped to route the power wires for the amps into the interior. Smart thinking there GM. Looking at it as a component to round out the factory system, it works really well. It's not a block-rocking sub. It fills in the low end that is completely absent from the factory system. If you're listening to dubstep with the volume at 11, that bass drop farts out a bit. It's an 8" sub, what do you expect? Kept within it's lane, at reasonable volume levels, it plays really nice. The added multi-channel amp for the rest of the system is a nice bonus and there is certainly some sound shaping going on behind the scenes. My only complaint is that I personally would have set the crossover a bit lower for the sub. I hear a little too much mid-bass bleed into the sub for my ears. Again though, small sub that's blending with a factory system that probably didn't have much mid-bass to work with from the beginning.

Great Upgrade

Factory to custom in about 2-3 hours of labor. About a 1000 X improvement in sound with existing speakers. The base is very strong, and I ended up replacing door speakers with "Kicker" speakers. The current oddly 2.75" sized "factories" are still in the dash and sound just fine right now with this amp/sub upgrade. 3.5" Kickers could still "round out" the whole "Kicker" system in the dash with the 4 channels, but some custom cutting would be warranted to make the install 100% Kicker upgraded. I had to custom splice some of the wires to the factory head unit. It was about 85% plug and play with a slight bit of cutting for my Chevy Colorado 2019 model pickup, but it all worked fine in the end.

Pros: System is correct for the factory space within the truck right now. Amps and overall watts are properly balanced with emphasis on the base with the factory head unit.

Cons: Had to splice a few wires. It wasn't 100% plug and play as advertised with the 2019 Colorado truck since the system pre-dates the newer Chevy "Infotaintment" units, but worked out perfectly otherwise.

Features

Overview: The Kicker PCOCRE15 amplifier and powered subwoofer system is designed specifically to fit 2015 - 2018 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon Crew Cab trucks with factory non-Bose, 2-knob radios. It features an 8" Kicker CVT subwoofer, mounted in a sealed enclosure with a built-in 200 watt amplifier, along with a Powerstage 4-channel amplifier with DSP for the main speakers. The system is designed to integrate directly with the factory radio and vehicle wiring without taking up usable space.

Subwoofer: The PCOCRE15 subwoofer enclosure gets mounted underneath the rear seat in the extended cab with the provided hardware, and includes a 14', 9" pre-loomed wire harness. This harness contains 2 plugs that get attached to matching plugs from the amp/enclosure, a ring terminal for grounding, and a power terminal that gets attached to an additional 54" loomed power cable (with ring terminal and in-line fuse holder) for running to the vehicle battery. The 14', 9" harness also contains a 2-pin Molex plug for attaching the additional 6" 2-wire harness. Both wires on this plug get tapped into the factory wiring for the signal to the subwoofer.

4-Channel Amplifier: The PCOCRE15 includes a Kicker Powerstage 4-channel amplifier, giving 50 watts of power to each of the 4 main speakers, and featuring computer-optimized, 32-bit digital signal processing (DSP) that's been tuned specifically for the vehicle. The included wiring "T" harnesses integrate directly into the factory radio wiring for each signal channel without the need for splicing, and additional power and ground wiring is provided for running to the battery. Mounting hardware is included for installing the amp behind the glove box, keeping the original factory look.

Note: The PCOCRE15 is only compatible with factory non-Bose, 2-knob style radios.

The chimes will be played through this and so they should increase in volume at the same offset as the rest of the audio My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul
