About the Kicker VSS™ Powerstage™ System
Transform your F-150 Super Crew's factory sound system
Transform your F-150 Super Crew's factory sound system
You've got a great set of wheels, but something's missing: the sound of the Ford factory radio leaves a lot to be desired. Low power, less-then-ideal speaker placement, and dialed-back bass all contribute to the unhappy situation. This VSS Powerstage system upgrade by Kicker will transform your Ford F-150's stock radio and speakers into a high-fidelity sound system capable of giving you full, accurate, and richly-textured musical pleasure. And it does it without changing the look of your F150's interior or dash.
It plugs into your factory wiring with no cutting
The heart of the system is the Powerstage processor/amp module that plugs in between your car's stock receiver and speakers with the help of a Ford-specific wiring harness. Kicker's technicians measured the acoustics of the F-150 Super Crew's interior, then developed a program to get the strongest and cleanest audio performance possible from the stock speakers. The Powerstage module breathes new life into your vehicle's factory system, automatically correcting for the limitations of the factory speakers, then adding plenty of power so the speakers can sound their best.
Of course, there's a subwoofer with it
It wouldn't be a sonic upgrade without a subwoofer to bring bass magic to the mix. Kicker includes a custom-fit, powered subwoofer that mounts under the right rear seat. A 200-watt amplifier provides the power you need to feel the bass from the 10" sub in the front seat.
Do it yourself and save
This VSS upgrade package comes with all the hardware and brackets you'll need, and all the wiring is pre-cut and terminated to help make the installation easier. Step-by-step, illustrated instructions make this sonic upgrade a fun and rewarding project.
Important Note: This upgrade package will only work with the 2009-up Ford F-150 Super Crew pickup with the basic factory sound system. It will not work in a Ford F-150 with the premium (Sony) sound system.

Kicker VSS™ Powerstage™ System reviews
I am sorry i ever spent the money and time on this. Had for 1 hour and was on the phone to return. It's not the price i would send back if it had been half the price. Don't waste your time or money.
Pros: lots of bass if that's all you want. Easy install
Cons: when using the voice command you can' hear it unless you radio is turn all most all the way up. can't control bass unless you won't every thing to sound like you are in a tin can. Way over priced for what you get....

In one word, Awesome. The amount of space used for the sound produced is unmatched.
Pros: Great sound. Minimum space required. Easy installation.
Cons: Sub amp can't be adjusted.

With this kit, came great hope for my 2010 F-150. The factory system was lacking power and depth and I was seeking out a clean upgrade. I didn't want to change core components or even splice any wires. This kit met my requirements perfectly, on paper. Once I got it installed, I was impressed by the *thump* that the 10" sub was able to produce. As advertised, it seemed to amplify and clarify the mids and highs as well. About that *thump*... the lack of control in this system is unfortunate. When listening to my iPhone via the data cable, a patch cable, or bluetooth, or even listening to a factory CD, there are some songs that are unbearable, even at low levels. It's not a minority of my songs either. I have a very eclectic mix -- rock, jazz, classic, electronic, etc. Any songs that have a powerful kick drum will drive you absolutely crazy with this system. The subwoofer is improperly balanced and in many instances can't be controlled. Even with the bass turned all the way down on the head unit and using the "bass reducer" equalizer on my iPhone, the subwoofer can be too powerful. As a result of having to turn down the bass on the head unit, I also lose out on critical mid range frequencies and lose some depth that would be there if I could otherwise turn this subwoofer down. I've spoken to Crutchfield tech support and all that they could offer is that this unit is "DSP-optimized" for my truck and can't be adjusted, whatever that's supposed to mean. Color me disappointed.
Pros: Clean install.
Cons: Overpriced. No control of the subwoofer (not very happy about this -- pretty much a deal breaker).

1 year ago I cheaped out and bought an all in one (Not going to say the brand) Sub with built in Amp combo. Sound was an improvement, just not great. So I got the Soundgate Powerstage System from Kicker and Son of Gun (ya know what I wanted to say) this is meant for my truck. If you value your back seat space this system is it. You will not shake the ground but you your factory speakers come alive like you would not believe (highs I never heard before and the clarity is unbelievale) The sub is tight, clear and awesome. I listen to a variety of music and it does them all justice.. If you can do it, don't cheap out and regret it. Cajun Joe (Who Dat?)
Pros: Easy install. Awesome Sound. Your wife will understand the price when she hears it.
Cons: Non to speak of

This is a wonderful product for thus of us who want a factory installation of aftermarket equipment while being able to retain the factory SYNC system. The sub provides clear clean bass, and the amplifier cleans up the factory head unit sound and makes it crisp and LOUD. All of the wiring and harnesses are factory grade, and the final installation is if at came from Ford. It utilizes factory holes in the frame to mount to the subwoofer under the seat just like my Dad's factory Sony. It make take you a few hours to install, but the Crutchfield directions are clear. The final product is something to be very proud of.
Pros: Factory harness connections without a single wire to cut. Factory quality equipment or better that produces a professional sound that is tuned for this vehicle. Very good use of Kicker technology to improve a very dull factory system without removing the wonderful SYNC equipment.
Cons: A little more expensive than assembling various components, but no worries about voiding warranty or disabling SYNC with add on integration devices

More details on the Kicker VSS™ Powerstage™ System
Overview: Kicker's SoundGate PowerStage factory audio upgrade kits are designed to fit in specific year/make/model vehicles. The PF150C09 is compatible with select 2009 and later Ford Supercrew pickups (please confirm fit with the Crutchfield vehicle selector). Included with the system are a 10" subwoofer in a custom enclosure, subwoofer amp, multi-channel amp with custom mounting brackets, and all the necessary cables and adapter plugs to power the amplifiers and connect to the factory radio and speakers without cutting into any of the factory wiring.
Multi-Channel Amplifier: The multi-channel amplifier is rated at 50 watts RMS x 4 channels and powers the front and rear factory speakers. The amp also has a built-in computer-optimized, 32-bit DSP (Digital Signal Processor) programmed specifically for the truck's interior and factory audio system. Custom brackets are bolted to the amp to mount it out of sight, above the parking brake. The included wiring harness has adapter plugs that connect between the factory radio and factory harness, so cutting/splicing/testing the existing wires is not necessary. The included power harness is connected to the fuse box in the engine compartment, and specific wire routing instructions are included.
Subwoofer: The custom enclosure is loaded with a single 10" Kicker subwoofer, powered by a 200-watt amplifier mounted to the enclosure. The included wiring harness has an adapter plug that connects to the multi-channel amp's harness (for subwoofer signal input) and the power cable is connected to the fuse box in the engine compartment. Specific wire routing instructions are included, as is all necessary mounting hardware.
Electrical System: Both amplifiers are designed to have minimum impact on the truck's charging system.
Dimensions: The listed dimensions do not include the mounting brackets (regardless of these measurements, the amplifier mounting brackets and subwoofer enclosure are custom built to fit out of sight in the vehicle):
- Width: 8-1/4"
- Height: 1-3/8"
- Depth: 6"
- Subwoofer Enclosure:
- Width: 25"
- Height: 8"
- Depth: 13"
