About the Kicker VSS™ Powerstage™ System
Transform your F-150 Super Cab's factory sound system
Transform your F-150 Super Cab's factory sound system
You've got a great set of wheels, but something's missing: the sound of the Ford factory radio leaves a lot to be desired. Low power, less-then-ideal speaker placement, and dialed-back bass all contribute to the unhappy situation. This VSS Powerstage system upgrade by Kicker will transform your F-150's stock radio and speakers into a high-fidelity sound system capable of giving you full, accurate, and richly-textured musical pleasure. And it does it without changing the look of your F-150's interior or dash.
It plugs into your factory wiring with no cutting
The heart of the system is the Powerstage processor/amp module that plugs in between your car's stock receiver and speakers with the help of a Ford-specific wiring harness. Kicker's technicians measured the acoustics of the F-150 Super Cab's interior, then developed a program to get the strongest and cleanest audio performance possible from the stock speakers. The Powerstage module breathes new life into your vehicle's factory system, automatically correcting for the limitations of the factory speakers, then adding plenty of power so the speakers can sound their best.
Of course, there's a subwoofer with it
It wouldn't be a sonic upgrade without a subwoofer to bring bass magic to the mix. Kicker includes a custom-fit, powered subwoofer that mounts under the left rear seat. A 200-watt amplifier provides the power you need to feel the bass from the 10" sub in the front seat.
Do it yourself and save
This VSS upgrade package comes with all the hardware and brackets you'll need, and all the wiring is pre-cut and terminated to help make the installation easier. Step-by-step, illustrated instructions make this sonic upgrade a fun and rewarding project.
Important Note: This upgrade package will only work with the 2011-up Ford F-150 Super Cab pickup with the basic 4-speaker system. It will not work in a Ford F-150 with the premium (Sony) sound system.

Kicker VSS™ Powerstage™ System reviews
This is about the best sounding system that ever came out of a box! I have installed several multi amp and sub systems in the past and I am truly impressed with this system. As others have commented, the sub is a bit overwhelming, but its balanced and very accurate. The ease of installation is wonderful. It took about 4 hours but it was well worth it. I must add that I also replaced the front and rear door speakers (leaving the tweeters in the front uprights factory) and the sound is just awesome! It takes about six hours to do it all if you replace the factory speakers as well. The sound is very clear at high volume and the sub does not loose its low end at high volume. You will be impressed your factory radio can even produce such good sound. Its not 5K system good, but its darn close for the money invested. The installation makes it very easy. Plug and play everything and custom mounts to tuck it all away out of sight. Very good design and functionality. It simply blows away the Ford Sony package which I had in my previous truck. Not even close in terms of volume, bass and clarity. Install it and rock out...no tuning or adjustments needed. Well worth the money. Just do it, you will be smiling every-time to drive.
Cons: Slightly too much bass and no sub control.

I finished the installation of the Soundgate system a couple of months ago and I'm very impressed. The stock system in my F150 sounds so much better. The highs are brighter and the mid range frequencies are more clear. Obviously with the size of the subwoofer there is plenty of bass but the bass to me is tighter and more accurate. On that note I have to agree with one of the other reviewers in that it would have been a nice feature to have some alternate method of setting the level of the sub other than having to use the bass setting in the head unit. On some recordings the sub can be overpowering. Although a little pricey it was worth it as I spend a lot of time in the cab during fishing trips and will not settle for average stock sound. One of my fishing buddies recently commented on how clear the music was to him and that he could actually understand the lyrics that were lost in the stock system. Along with the great sound one does not have to give up the Ford SYNC system. Needless to say again, I am very pleased.
Pros: Bright clear highs and midrange. Plenty of tight bass. Super neat design and installation of the whole system. When finished you would think it is a factory install.
Cons: As mentioned could use a separate bass level adjustment. Installation of the (3) pem nuts for the new location holes creates a challenge if one does not have access to a pem nut installation tool.

This things really makes the factory speakers and system sound great without having to replace everything and look my SYNC system. I could have put something together and MAYBE saved a few dollars, but I would have had it would not interface with the SYNC system and I know would have taken more of my time to shop and figure out. So I know, if i consider my time in the cost, I know I came out with a better product for less money. I don't think I could have put in a comparable system with out compromising a factory look and loosing some functionality. Easy to install, good directions, and most of all, it sounds good. The only reason I did not give the system 4 Stars that I wish I had some gain controls on the bass. Sub hits hard on tight bass notes and rumbles when it needs to.
Pros: Easy DIY, no loss of factory aesthetics or functionality, sounds great
Cons: nothing to adjust except for controls provided in raidio

More details on the Kicker VSS™ Powerstage™ System
Overview: Kicker's SoundGate PowerStage factory audio upgrade kits are designed to fit in specific year/make/model vehicles. The PF150S11 is compatible with select 2011 and 2012 Ford Supercab pickups (please confirm fit with the Crutchfield vehicle selector). Included with the system are a 10" subwoofer in a custom enclosure, subwoofer amp, multi-channel amp with custom mounting brackets, all the necessary cables to power both amplifiers, and adapter plugs to connect to the factory radio and speakers without cutting into any of the factory wiring.
Multi-Channel Amplifier: The multi-channel amplifier is rated at 50 watts RMS x 4 channels and powers the front and rear factory speakers. The amp also has a built-in computer-optimized, 32-bit DSP (Digital Signal Processor) programmed specifically for the truck's interior and factory audio system. Custom brackets are bolted to the amp to mount it out of sight, above the parking brake. The included wiring harness has adapter plugs that connect between the factory radio and factory harness, so cutting/splicing/testing the existing wires is not necessary. The included power harness is connected to the accessory lug in the fuse box in the engine compartment, and specific wire routing instructions are included.
Subwoofer: The single 10" Kicker subwoofer is loaded in a custom enclosure and powered by a 200-watt amplifier mounted to the enclosure. The included wiring harness has an adapter plug that connects to the multi-channel amp's harness (for subwoofer signal input) and the power cable is connected to the accessory lug in the fuse box in the engine compartment. Specific wire routing instructions are included, as is all necessary mounting hardware.
Note: The subwoofer is mounted under the rear seat on the driver's side, so the jack and tool bag are relocated to the passenger's side. The hardware to relocate the jack is included, but a nut insert tool is also necessary (and not included).
Electrical System: Both amplifiers are designed to have minimum impact on the truck's charging system.
Dimensions: The listed dimensions do not include the mounting brackets (regardless of these measurements, the amplifier mounting brackets and subwoofer enclosure are custom built to fit out of sight in the vehicle):
- Width: 8-1/4"
- Height: 1-3/8"
- Depth: 6"
- Subwoofer Enclosure:
- Width: 32"
- Height: 6-3/4"
- Depth: 12-1/2"
