About the Kicker PF150SC15 VSS PowerStage
Transform your SuperCab/Super Crew's factory sound system
Transform your SuperCab/Super Crew's factory sound system
You've got a great set of wheels, but something's missing: the sound of the Ford factory radio leaves a lot to be desired. Low power, less-then-ideal speaker placement, and dialed-back bass all contribute to the unhappy situation. This VSS PowerStage system upgrade by Kicker will transform your stock radio and speakers into a high-fidelity sound system capable of giving you full, accurate, and richly-textured musical pleasure. And it does it without changing the look of your interior or dash.
Let's play "Find the Subwoofer."
It plugs into your factory wiring with no cutting
The heart of the system is the PowerStage processor/amp module that plugs in between your truck's stock receiver and speakers with the help of a Ford-specific wiring harness. Kicker's technicians measured the acoustics of your truck's interior, then developed a program to get the strongest and cleanest audio performance possible from the stock speakers. The PowerStage module breathes new life into your vehicle's factory system, automatically correcting for the limitations of the factory speakers, then adding plenty of power so the speakers can sound their best. And better yet, the module does all this while retaining the MyFordRadio functions.
Of course, there's a subwoofer with it
It wouldn't be a sonic upgrade without a subwoofer to bring bass magic to the mix. Kicker includes a custom-fit, powered subwoofer that mounts under the right rear seat. A 200-watt amplifier provides the power you need to feel the bass from the 8" sub in the front seat.
Do it yourself and save
This VSS upgrade package comes with all the hardware and brackets you'll need, and all the wiring is pre-cut and terminated to help make the installation easier. Step-by-step, illustrated instructions make this sonic upgrade a fun and rewarding project.

Very good sound out of the power stage, base is a good response for the size of the subwoofer an it fits nice right behind the back seat. No floor space was taken up by this unit. Big disappointment with the power amp. Although the sound is very crisp and clear the sound level is just slightly above the factory level. I also upgraded the Door speakers in front and back and when I called Kicker about the sound level they told me the Power stage is tuned to get the best response out of the factor speakers. I wish they would have expressed this in the literature. Kicker also stated the put the power from the amp is used to get the best tuning sound for the stereo and not for more power to increase the sound output. I would suggest just getting the sub system and not the power stage. Too much money for making your stereo sound like a concert

Just install it. You will be happy you did!! At first I was on the fence about getting this upgrade (Because of price). Now Im so glad I got it.. The sound is much better than factory. I actually have some bass response now! The added under console amp also nicely cleans up the sound of the factory speakers. All of the components are expertly engineered to fit perfectly out of sight. Every bit as good as factory. All connection are plug and play, no cutting of any wires. It took me about 2.5hrs to install completely, but I took my time. It helps to checkout a few online videos before you start.
Pros: Easy Install -Plug and Play connections -Great Sound improvement!
Cons: A little pricey (Still worth it!) -Directions have a few gray areas

I didn't realize this was available online at other places and purchased it straight from Kicker. We just did the install this evening and I was very impressed with the build quality of this factory upgrade. We took video of the entire install and will have it up on an online video site within the next week. The install was straight forward and took about 3 hours taking extra care and making allowances for videoing the entire install. Everything fits perfectly and looks truly factory. It is evident that the Kicker engineers worked with Ford to put together an upgrade that has a factory fit and finish. We did a sound test before and after and the signal processor/amplifier for the front stage is amazing. Straight factory sounded OK but it didn't really get as loud as my brother wanted and bass was lacking. After the install you have to yell over the stereo and the sound is very clean, no distortion. Highs are very bright and the mid-bass is strong and punchy. You do have to adjust the bass a bit depending on what type of music you are listing to but overall we were both really impressed with how much low-end the 8" sub fills in. We listened to some Aldo Nova (serious 80's jams), Brass Monkey, In This Moment, White Zombie, Texas Hippie Coalition and some Lindsey Sterling Dubstep to get a feel for the range and this setup is really impressive.
Pros: Impressive front stage. Strong, punchy mid-bass and crystal clear, bright highs. Great subwoofer setup for Rock, Heavy Metal, Jazz, Classical or Coutry
Cons: 8" Sub isn't going to give you the kind of bass you "feel" If you are big into dubstep or rap with low hard bass lines you should probably look at another option.

Sounds awesome! The provided installation instructions left a little to be desired. I searched for this product on youtube and found several really helpful videos. I have limited experience installing stereo equipment but was able to complete the install in about 2 hours. The overall design is great. Everything hides nicely.
Pros: Ease of installation, DIY, improvement of stock sound
Cons: Now i want to upgrade my door speakers

Power cord was a little short. Other than that this kit is awesome. Clean sound, but not set off alarms cruising down the street loud. Good enough for this father of two. Plays my hip hop and EDM classics with much better quality than stock

First saw these systems at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas and was blow away by the difference that they had made. I am in the car business and regularly trade vehicles after a few months so it was important to me that everything looked as close as factory as possible without having to compromise the integrity of the factory wiring harnesses by cutting or splicing into them. In researching this product the most common con I had read was that the installation instructions could have been better. Only ran into two small spots that caught me off guard. The first was figuring out how they wanted you to mount the amp and the second was I could not get the power wires for the amplifier to seat into the harness kicker had provided firmly. Even when connected to the harness they had the ability to slip out which caused my factory speakers not to work at all. Overall the 8" sub really woke the stereo up more than anything the amp definitely provides more power to the factory speakers but more in a full sound kind of way not a overwhelmingly loud kinda way if that makes sense. From the factory Fords stereos have traditionally always been pretty weak. This is a upgrade if you're looking to get the most out of your factory stereo.
Pros: Very Clean. Cant visually even tell an aftermarket stereo system has been installed until you turn it on. Love that its all plug and play!! Have a very crisp clean sound!
Cons: Pricey but at least you can draw the lawn with one purchase instead of continuously adding pieces to make the stereo better. Only downfall at close to full volume the factory speakers cant handle the power and will pop

I wanted to improve the sound quality in my F150. I didn't include the Sony system from the factory. I checked with local stereo shops. They all wanted to install a sub under the rear seat. I wanted to keep the wonderful storage capabilities in this truck with the seats folded up. I saw this on Crutchfield's website and decided to try it out. It was a straight forward installation. Nothing difficult. the results were well worth it. My wife likes to drive the truck now. She thinks it has a better sound than her titanium Fusion with the Sony factory system which is awesome in the Fusion. I am ready for some road trips now. Heading to the Canadian Rockies soon/.
Pros: Just the right amount of bass.

First, I would like to mention that in the past I have always installed conventional aftermarket subs in my cars. That said I know the sound quality and install needed to execute these systems at a high level. The kicker system is not at the component level but I highly recommend it. The reason I decided to go with the system comes down to three factors. First, you don't sacrifice floor space in the truck. The back seat storage to me is the space I use the most on a daily basis and it is the least mentioned benefit to a 4 door truck. Second, an 8" sub is plenty of output given the cabin because the sub is not in the trunk Finally, it amplifies the signal to the door speakers. This was huge to me because it lets you power aftermarket speakers in the future if you want. I have installed 6x9s in the front and anyone thinking of doing this should plan on doing all 4 or none but and as many have bought up it helps the factory speakers out nicely so you can break up the investment and install over a longer timeframe. In conclusion, coming from a person has gone the component route in the past, don't waste your time. This kicker system gives you an easily installable solution that anyone can do, stays out of the way, and fixes a horrible factory system that for me was not acceptable on a 50K vehicle.
Pros: 50 watts RMS to all 4 doors at 4 ohms (i emailed kicker on this), Easy to install, You don't give up floor space in the back, no cutting of factory wiring, sounds great
Cons: It is expensive (It used to be more though)

This system had factory connections and all the parts needed for a quick installation. The included instructions could be a little better, but research on the Web helped out. The system sounds fantastic in my opinion. It enhances the factory system and adds depth to the texture of the music. It is just what I wanted for my new truck.
Pros: Easy installation Great sound improvement
Cons: Pricey A few steps in installation instructions need more details or pictures
