About the Kicker PF150SC15 VSS PowerStage

Transform your SuperCab/Super Crew's factory sound system

You've got a great set of wheels, but something's missing: the sound of the Ford factory radio leaves a lot to be desired. Low power, less-then-ideal speaker placement, and dialed-back bass all contribute to the unhappy situation. This VSS PowerStage system upgrade by Kicker will transform your stock radio and speakers into a high-fidelity sound system capable of giving you full, accurate, and richly-textured musical pleasure. And it does it without changing the look of your interior or dash. (Note: This system won't work in Ford EcoBoost vehicles with Auto Start-Stop Technology.)

find the subwoofer!

Let's play "Find the Subwoofer."

It plugs into your factory wiring with no cutting

The heart of the system is the PowerStage processor/amp module that plugs in between your truck's stock receiver and speakers with the help of a Ford-specific wiring harness. Kicker's technicians measured the acoustics of your truck's interior, then developed a program to get the strongest and cleanest audio performance possible from the stock speakers. The PowerStage module breathes new life into your vehicle's factory system, automatically correcting for the limitations of the factory speakers, then adding plenty of power so the speakers can sound their best. And better yet, the module does all this while retaining the MyFordRadio functions.

Of course, there's a subwoofer with it

It wouldn't be a sonic upgrade without a subwoofer to bring bass magic to the mix. Kicker includes a custom-fit, powered subwoofer that mounts under the right rear seat. A 200-watt amplifier provides the power you need to feel the bass from the 8" sub in the front seat.

Do it yourself and save

This VSS upgrade package comes with all the hardware and brackets you'll need, and all the wiring is pre-cut and terminated to help make the installation easier. Step-by-step, illustrated instructions make this sonic upgrade a fun and rewarding project.

Q
Other than being significantly more expensive and not taking up valuable under-seat storage, anybody know how this compares sound-wise to the JBL Concert VSS system on the F-150?
[ Nextelspe  May 31, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.

Q
Has anyone installed this on a 2017 F250? If so did it work?
[ Dor  May 30, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
It is recommended and will work in the 2017 super cab & supercrew cab models with the factory "MyFord" Radio. You can see if it's a recommended option for your truck by using the "Find What Fits" application on the main Crutchfield website: https://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx?lp=%2fCar%2foutfitmycar%2fmycar.aspx

Q
Does this eliminate the factory base roll-off?
[ Cameron  May 12, 2018 ]

A
It does eliminate bass roll-off. I am very satisfied with the results of this install. The sub woofer included with the kit, sounds great
[ Robert  May 15, 2018 ]
A
I'm not sure what you mean by the factory base roll off but I highly recommend this product. It was easy to install and the end result was a huge difference in sound quality. All factory functions and controls work perfectly. I have had this product installed for approximately 1 year with zero problems. I'm still amazed on how great the system sounds- so clean. I highly recommend. There will definitely be no regrets.

Q
Does the bass roll off on this as the volume increases like it does with the stock setup, or does Kicker's processor eliminate that?
[ Cameron  May 09, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
The Kicker's processor helps compensate for the stock EQ and bass roll-off, yes.

Q
Can you please tell me what the subwoofer enclosure volume in cubic feet is?
[ five04vho  Jul 31, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
I'm afraid that information is not provided. The Kicker PowerStage upgrade includes their VSS Substage custom-fit powered subwoofer which is not meant to be replaced and/or used with any other woofer model. For more details, or to discuss further, please feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat.

Q
I have just purchased a 2017 F 150 XLT with the new Sync 3 system. Would this system be compatible with this newer system?
[ Jeff  Mar 01, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
According to the Kicker website, the system cannot be used with trucks that have the 2.7 with Auto Stop-Start. Has anybody tried it and what happens if you do put it in a truck with the Auto Stop-Start?
[ Jason  Jun 06, 2016 ]

A
I just installed the PF150SC15 into my 2016 F150 XLT 4" monitor super crew 2.7 eco boost with auto start stop. I tested it out and it worked fine even when the auto stop activated. If I was playing a loud bass song and high AC the auto start would turn back on sooner than normal.

Just got off the phone with Kicker. They explained that there is something with the electrical system in the trucks with the EcoBoost engines. When the engine shuts off and on, it causes the Kicker amp to also shut off. They say they don't currently have a solution to the problem and they don't recommend installing it if you have the auto start-stop EcoBoost engine. Kicker says that even if you disable auto start-stop the problem still exists.

We do not have that restriction listed for this system but, as the manufacturer of the product, Kicker would know best. You can contact them directly for additional information regarding this restriction. You can reach their technical support department by dialing: 405-624-8583 I hope that helps! [ Tim  Jun 05, 2016 ]

Only one of these custom systems can be added. Feel free to call an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 for help with building a 2 subwoofer system for your pickup. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Q
I have a 2015 Ford F150 Lariat 2.7L Eco boost factory installed speakers and had read this online for the PF150SC15 : Multi-channel amplifier is not compatible with vehicles that have Sony factory premium audio systems, or Base Radio. Does this mean the amp won't work with channels from the radio for base speakers? So the amp will only work for cd's?
[ Ang  May 15, 2016 ]
1 answer
A
This Kicker system is designed to work specifically with the 8 inch screened stereo. Apparently there are different wiring harnesses for each. BUT, I can't see Ford wiring specific trucks with special harnesses for each different radio.. So there may be a plug in adaptor already in play. If so, it may take some trickery to get it to work. This is a fabulous system upgrade, it's worth doing the research to see.
[ defran3k  May 16, 2016 ]
Q
Can this be added to an existing Ford system. Is the wiring harness from Ford there?
[ David  Apr 22, 2016 ]
4 answers
A
Yes. It will only work with the ford system and the stock speakers. There is no adjustment for the amps so you can't use with the Sony system or other aftermarket speakers. It sounded great with the stock speakers but when I upgraded them it was out of tune. So I returned it. But if you are planning to keep the stock system then this is a good addition.
[ WAYNE  Apr 23, 2016 ]
A
Yes, it can, however, just make sure you grab the correct soundgate (w/Sony or w/o Sony system)
[ Mark  Apr 22, 2016 ]
A
es it fits perfectly. No wire cutting or splicing. Looks factory when finished.
[ JOHN  Apr 22, 2016 ]
A
To answer your question David. yes it is. What year is your ford?
[ THOMAS C  Apr 22, 2016 ]
Q
Will this fit in a 2015 F150 with the AC converter under the rear seat?
[ Steven  Sep 22, 2015 ]
2 answers
A
The answer is "Yes". Unfortunately the description of this product by Crutchfield is inaccurate. It's an 8" woofer, and doesn't mount below the rear seat. It mounts on the back wall of the cabin. It appears CF just copied and pasted the tech details from the 2009-2014 model. Notwithstanding that, feedback I've read about this upgrade has been very positive. Digital Signal Processing makes a HUGE difference.

For details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle.
