About the Kicker VSS™ Powerstage™ System
Transform your Silverado or Sierra's factory sound system
Transform your Silverado or Sierra's factory sound system
You've got a great set of wheels, but something's missing: the sound of the GM factory radio leaves a lot to be desired. Low power, less-then-ideal speaker placement, and dialed-back bass all contribute to the unhappy situation. This VSS Powerstage system upgrade by Kicker will transform your Silverado or Sierra's stock radio and speakers into a high-fidelity sound system capable of giving you full, accurate, and richly-textured musical pleasure. And it does it without changing the look of your truck's interior or dash.
It plugs into your factory wiring with no cutting
The heart of the system is the Powerstage processor/amp module that plugs in between your car's stock receiver and speakers with the help of a GM-specific wiring harness. Kicker's technicians measured the acoustics of the truck's interior, then developed a program to get the strongest and cleanest audio performance possible from the stock speakers. The Powerstage module breathes new life into your vehicle's factory system, automatically correcting for the limitations of the factory speakers, then adding plenty of power so the speakers can sound their best.
Of course, there's a subwoofer with it
It wouldn't be a sonic upgrade without a subwoofer to bring bass magic to the mix. Kicker includes a custom-fit, powered subwoofer that mounts under the right rear seat. A 200-watt amplifier provides the power you need to feel the bass from the 10" sub in the front seat.
Do it yourself and save

Kicker VSS™ Powerstage™ System reviews
2011 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab. The install was pretty straight forward and I would allow 3 - 4 hours. The bracket that comes mounted to the "highs" amp is designed to fit without the power brake pedal feature. This is a known issue and they emailed me an addendum for amplifier mounting with the power brake pedal which is just to rest the amplifier on top of the air duct that's under the steering column, it's kept in place sort of when you reattach all the panels. I cut out a few pieces of rubber I had lying around to prevent a few potential rattles from this install method. Next I found that when I connected the power wire for the "highs" amp it pushed the connectors from plug so I pushed them in and reconnected. Now I have music from the front two channels only, no subwoofer. I replaced the fuse for the sub amp as they one in the kit was faulty or had blown even though it visibly showed no evidence. I contacted Kicker about the rear channels not working and they informed me that they sometimes have trouble with the harness since GM has the patents and they can't make it exactly the same. After disconnecting and reconnecting all the harnesses I get a 3rd channel intermittently. I will say that the bass is great and the highs are noticeably crossed over and cleaned, however I do find that the sub tends to be louder then the rest of the music. I plan to return this system as I'm tired of trying to get all 4 channels to work.
Pros: Tight clean bass,
Cons: Poor harness connections.

Just had this installed into my recently purchased 2016 Chevy 1500 4 Super cab and WOW! Cleared up the fuzz in the factory door/dash speakers and the 10" sub hits like a hammer. Kicker and Chevy over delivered in my opinion. I gave it 4 **** as I agreed with another poster, for the price point an included door speaker upgrade would have made sense and pushed this value over the edge. Very satisfied!
Pros: Cleared up factory system, Hard hitting base
Cons: Should have included a door speaker upgrade at this price point

I've had this system hooked up for a few weeks now and wow it really does rock!! I was skeptical at first because of the lower power numbers and the high price tag but after listening to it I have no regrets. The 10" sub produces tight, clean bass and is very punchy, and does not overpower the rest of your music. Everything blends together nicely creating a very well balanced system. The reason I'm giving this system a 4 out of 5 stars is because I think for the money spent Kicker should throw in 4 new door speakers. I decided to replace my 4 door speakers with JL Audio TR650-CXi speakers and they cleaned my mids and highs right up. I wasn't about to listen to my expensive system through GM's cheapo, paper cone, factory speakers. It sounded ok through factory speakers but it sounds great through the JL's. Installation was pretty simple, the sub box fit flawlessly and as did the amp under the dash. I was able to tuck all of the wires neatly out of sight and other than the sub box under the rear seat my truck looks completely stock. If your considering this Kicker Soundgate Powerstage system don't hesitate, you will not be disappointed.
Pros: Great bass System is well balanced Clean and easy installation Sounds amazing
Cons: For the money spent it should come with new door speakers

I was skeptical at first because of the low wattage and small sub, but god bless America I have no complaints. This product has transformed by truck into disco. The highs are crisp and the bass is just enough. I've had all sorts of systems and this by far is the best!
Pros: Don't have to cut any wires Sounds amazing
Cons: non yet

In a nutshell, this system is incredible...installed today in about 2 hours. Very clean install, the Amp/DSP is well hidden up under the driver's side dash and the box under the back passenger seat goes unnoticed. 2 power wires run through the firewall to the battery, one harness runs from the amp/DSP to the back seat on the driver's side (under the door trim/carpet) and over to the passenger side going completely unnoticed. I have had systems before (clarion head unit, Audiobahn 12, pioneer head unit, pioneer door speakers, rockford 12. but I wouldn't go back to either of those setups after listening to this system. The highs and mids are crisp and pure, the DSP definitely does its job. The 10" powered kicker sub makes more than enough (clean, hard hitting, punching/booming) bass to rattle your cage. This setup makes a factory bose system sound like a busted set of ear buds, glad I didn't go with the upgrade from factory or I wouldn't have discovered it (doesn't work w/ bose systems).

More details on the Kicker VSS™ Powerstage™ System
Overview: Kicker's SoundGate PowerStage factory audio upgrade kits are designed to fit in specific year/make/model vehicles. The PSICRE07 is compatible with select 2007 and later GM crew cab pickups (please confirm fit with the Crutchfield vehicle selector, not compatible with the factory Bose system). Included with the system are a 10" subwoofer in a custom enclosure, subwoofer amp, multi-channel amp with custom mounting brackets, all the necessary cables to power both amplifiers, and adapter plugs to connect to the factory radio and speakers without cutting into any of the factory wiring.
Multi-Channel Amplifier: The multi-channel amplifier is rated at 50 watts RMS x 4 channels and powers the front and rear factory speakers. The amp also has a built-in computer-optimized, 32-bit DSP (Digital Signal Processor) programmed specifically for the truck's interior and factory audio system. Custom brackets are bolted to the amp to mount it out of sight, by the steering column. The included wiring harness has adapter plugs that connect between the factory radio and factory harness, so cutting/splicing/testing the existing wires is not necessary. The included power harness is connected to an accessory lug in the engine compartment, and specific wire routing instructions are included.
Subwoofer: The single 10" Kicker subwoofer is loaded in a custom enclosure and powered by a 200-watt amplifier mounted to the enclosure. The included wiring harness has an adapter plug that connects to the multi-channel amp's harness (for subwoofer signal input) and the power cable is connected to the accessory lug in the engine compartment. Specific wire routing instructions are included. The subwoofer is mounted under the rear seat on the passenger's side.
Electrical System: Both amplifiers are designed to have minimum impact on the truck's charging system.
Dimensions: The listed dimensions do not include the mounting brackets (regardless of these measurements, the amplifier mounting brackets and subwoofer enclosure are custom built to fit out of sight in the vehicle):
- Width: 8-1/4"
- Height: 1-3/8"
- Depth: 6"
- Subwoofer Enclosure:
- Width: 19"
- Height: 8"
- Depth: 17-1/2"
