About the Kicker VSS™ Powerstage™ System
Transform your Silverado or Sierra's factory sound system
Transform your Silverado or Sierra's factory sound system
You've got a great set of wheels, but something's missing: the sound of the GM factory radio leaves a lot to be desired. Low power, less-then-ideal speaker placement, and dialed-back bass all contribute to the unhappy situation. This VSS Powerstage system upgrade by Kicker will transform your Silverado or Sierra's stock radio and speakers into a high-fidelity sound system capable of giving you full, accurate, and richly-textured musical pleasure. And it does it without changing the look of your truck's interior or dash.
It plugs into your factory wiring with no cutting
The heart of the system is the Powerstage processor/amp module that plugs in between your car's stock receiver and speakers with the help of a GM-specific wiring harness. Kicker's technicians measured the acoustics of the truck's interior, then developed a program to get the strongest and cleanest audio performance possible from the stock speakers. The Powerstage module breathes new life into your vehicle's factory system, automatically correcting for the limitations of the factory speakers, then adding plenty of power so the speakers can sound their best.
Of course, there's a subwoofer with it
It wouldn't be a sonic upgrade without a subwoofer to bring bass magic to the mix. Kicker includes a custom-fit, powered subwoofer that mounts under the right rear seat. A 200-watt amplifier provides the power you need to feel the bass from the 10" sub in the front seat.
Do it yourself and save
This VSS upgrade package comes with all the hardware and brackets you'll need, and all the wiring is pre-cut and terminated to help make the installation easier. Step-by-step, illustrated instructions make this sonic upgrade a fun and rewarding project.
Important Note: This upgrade package will only work with a 2007-10 Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra Extended Cab with the basic audio system. It will not work in the 2007 Classic body style, or a vehicle equipped with adjustable pedals, or in a Silverado/Sierra with the premium (Bose) sound system.

Kicker VSS™ Powerstage™ System reviews
This kit is great for people who want to continue to use their truck and treat it as stock, but with upgraded sound. Audiophiles, do not bother with this kit. Anyone who is unfamiliar with audio, or who wants better sound without worrying about what gear to choose, break out your card and order this product. One of the amplifiers mounts by the steering wheel column under the dash and is a bit of a pain to mount, however it is completely hidden and very secure. The instruction manuals are fairly clear and straight forward with pictures to refer too. Once installed, everything is out of the way and sounds good. The bass is a bit exaggerated and boomy and the highs/mids are still stock paper speakers, but sound much better, nonetheless. Overall, this kit simplifies installation of an aftermarket audio system to a DIY level that anyone can do on a Saturday afternoon. If you're looking for strict sound quality, you are better off picking your own equipment and installing it. For the price and considering the equipment/simplicity this kit is a fair deal.
Pros: Simple to install. Much better bass response. EQ, power and time alignment help stock speakers sound old.
Cons: Price, but a great deal compared to cost and sound of the factory Bose system. Install takes some time and patience at times.

For the price this was a disappointment. The highs livened up but unfortunately the bass became very hard to control. Some songs now sound very boxy while others are just plain muddy with exaggerated bass. Not much thump either. Not sure what that issue is. No gain adjustments so you are stuck with the controls built into the factory radio. Although this was designed to be used with factory speakers, going with some decent aftermarket ones may help but as I said before, bass is really the problem here. The install was a real pain too. It would have been much easier to fish a couple of patch cables down through the dash then to stuff, yes STUFF 2 huge pre-terminated harnesses through there. My arms and wrists got really cut up. I have plenty of experience installing aftermarket gear and this was tough since it was a factory add-on as opposed to starting from scratch. I realize that the benefit of being able to remove the whole thing and put your truck EXACTLY back to stock is a bonus but this really underperforms. The amps that came with it are very small and I find it very doubtful that they are each 200w units. The main amp includes some DSP ucircuitry so it is hard to see how something so small could contain any real power. The sub amp is about the size of 2 iPhones stacked on top of each other. I believe I am going to be pulling it all out and sending it back. It just isn't worth it. Glad I kept the boxes. BTW, this is no reflection on Crutchfield. They are great
Pros: If it had worked well, keeping stock looks was nice.
Cons: Not enough improvement to justify spending this much. Very tough install, probably easier to just start from scartch instead of trying to add on to the factory stereo.

More details on the Kicker VSS™ Powerstage™ System
Overview: Kicker's SoundGate PowerStage factory audio upgrade kits are designed to fit in specific year/make/model vehicles. The PSIEXT07 is compatible with select 2007 and later GM full size extended cab pickups (please confirm fit with the Crutchfield vehicle selector, not compatible with the factory Bose system, the solid rear bench seat, or adjustable pedals). Included with the system are a 10" subwoofer in a custom enclosure, subwoofer amp, multi-channel amp with custom mounting bracket, all the necessary cables to power both amplifiers, and adapter plugs to connect to the factory radio and speakers without cutting into any of the factory wiring.
Multi-Channel Amplifier: The multi-channel amplifier is rated at 50 watts RMS x 4 channels and powers the front and rear factory speakers. The amp also has a built-in computer-optimized, 32-bit DSP (Digital Signal Processor) programmed specifically for the truck's interior and factory audio system. A custom bracket is bolted to the amp to mount it amp out of sight, by the steering column. The included wiring harness has adapter plugs that connect between the factory radio and factory harness, so cutting/splicing/testing the existing wires is not necessary. The included power harness is connected to an accessory lug in the engine compartment, and specific wire routing instructions are included.
Subwoofer: The single 10" Kicker subwoofer is loaded in a custom enclosure and powered by a 200-watt amplifier mounted to the enclosure. The included wiring harness has adapter plugs that connect to the multi-channel amp's harness (for subwoofer signal input) and the power cable is connected to the accessory lug in the engine compartment. Specific wire routing instructions are included. The subwoofer is mounted under the rear seat on the passenger's side.
Electrical System: Both amplifiers are designed to have minimum impact on the truck's charging system.
Dimensions: The listed dimensions do not include the mounting brackets (regardless of these measurements, the amplifier mounting brackets and subwoofer enclosure are custom built to fit in the vehicle):
- Multi-Channel Amplifier:
- Width: 8-1/4"
- Height: 1-3/8"
- Depth: 6"
- Subwoofer Enclosure:
- Width: 20-1/2"
- Height: 9-1/4"
- Depth: 16-5/8"
