Innovative woofer

The woofer's forged aluminum frame and Santoprene™ rubber surround handle high-level playback, while keeping the cone on track. The injection-molded SoloKon™ polypropylene cone features 360-degree, constant-contact back bracing for strength and responsiveness. And the UniPlate™ back plate and pole piece are made as a single, solid unit to allow heat to escape the motor. Translation? Kicker designed these subs to take some serious punishment.

Tough enclosure

Kicker covers the solid MDF enclosure with light gray carpeting, along with an embroidered Kicker logo. Heavy internal bracing gives you a solid base for the subwoofers, while rounded corners help the enclosure to fit in tighter spaces. The specially engineered port increases bass response, and the enclosure's 2-ohm impedance allows you to draw maximum power from your amplifier. Strong, innovative, and powerful, Kicker made the 41VL7122 enclosure to deliver no-holds-barred bass.

Q Class

Product Research

Overview: The Kicker VL7122 is a passive subwoofer system featuring a heavy-duty 12" L7 driver in a compact ported enclosure. Designed for maximum bass and power handling while maintaining excellent sound quality, the 2 ohm subwoofer can handle 900 watts RMS/1800 watts peak power.

Enclosure: The VL7122 features a heavy duty MDF ported enclosure with felt cloth covering on the top, bottom, and rear panels. Connection to the sub is done with two recessed spring-post terminals, providing a positive electrical connection. The VL7122 includes mounting hardware for attaching the enclosure to a floorboard for a more stable installation.

L7 Driver: The Kicker sub enclosure is loaded with a single 12" L7 dual voice-coil subwoofer, internally parallel-wired for a 2Ω load at the single set of output terminals. The L7 driver utilizes Kicker's unique square design, which gives it over 20%  more surface area than a round speaker of the same diameter, allowing more air to be moved and increasing volume. The subwoofer's construction features a polypropylene cone with a Santoprene surround, both stitched for maximum bonding strength. The motor assembly consists of oversized magnets along with finned heat sinks around the voice-coil, all providing greater heat dissipation for increased longevity.

Customer Q&A

9 questions already asked

Just ordered this when I receive it is there anything special I have to do or can I just plug it in to my amp ?
[ Marc  Nov 16, 2021 ]

Yes just plug and play after setting your amp. Also I broke it in for a week or so but a absolute beast!
[ James  Nov 19, 2021 ]
Just have to go easy on the bass until you break it in. Remember kicker uses a lot of glue so that's what your gonna be smelling at first
[ Mere19  Nov 18, 2021 ]
Tbh you can just plug it in to your amp, you just gotta be careful not to over power it or try to max it out cus u will burn a coil out. Take your time breaking it in.
[ Hernan  Nov 17, 2021 ]
Everything is already setup just plug and play but make sure you have the right amp with the proper wattage
[ Gen  Nov 17, 2021 ]
You might need to tune the amp but that speaker is plug and play
[ Jason  Nov 17, 2021 ]
Out of the box it's plug-and-play. There is nothing required to do before connecting to your Amp. Just be sure to let it break in before pushing it to the max.
[ Dan  Nov 17, 2021 ]
Do u guys sell just the box only?
[ Eddie  Jun 30, 2021 ]

We do not.

Is it normal for this sub to give off a smell when new? I've had it for about a week now maybe, about 4 hrs of total play time. I have it paired with cxa1200.1 with gains set to only push 900 watts to my loudess listening volume and I've had my bass remote at half this sub has not had more than 500 watts of fed to it yet. And there's a slight smell coming from the port. Not quite burnt coil but close. And I am not clipping I used an oscilloscope to set gain.
[ David  Apr 25, 2021 ]

No you are not, what your are smelling is the glue burning off the coil.
[ Mere19  May 21, 2021 ]
Hello, I don't have a definitive answer for you, but mine had the same smell in the first week of playing. And I believe it will go away, it's just glue and new speaker smell, unless it's an electrical burn smell, the you might want to double check your gains on amp, and or try not to max the volume on the deck, which can cause distortion. I'm running a KAC-9106d, at about a 1000 watts. I feel like I'm really pushing the sub, but it's been fine so far and the smell has died down

Is this dual 2 ohm? And can i wire it to 1 ohm?
[ varma  Apr 13, 2021 ]

It's a 4ohm sub wired down to 2ohm. An cannot be wired down to 1ohm. The sub would need to be a 2ohm to be able to go down to 1ohm
[ Mere19  May 21, 2021 ]
This is a 2-ohm subwoofer. It cannot be wired to 1-ohm.

What is the best recommended amplifier for this particular speaker ?

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Is this box too small for that speaker ? Meaning as if maybe a bigger box would be recommended for better sound maybe something custom ? Thanks

I have this exact one and just recently stumbled across a builder name MB Enclosure (YouTube) that kicker gave a shot out and had him on their YouTube channel Kicker Unmasked. Check him out!!
[ James  Nov 19, 2021 ]
That enclosure is manufactured by Kicker with the exact specs of the L7 sub in mind. It is an ideal match but that doesn't mean you couldn't build a custom enclosure that would also sound good, if not better.

What cover goes over this woofer ?

Kicker use to sell a mesh type grille for the Q-class subs but they got discontinued. So I'm using there regular L7 grills an got a grinder an shaved the inner corners about 1/2in an works fine an no rubbing or anything.
[ Mere19  May 21, 2021 ]
I purchased this enclosure and also purchased Kicker's LED grilles for the 12" Solobaric speaker. The sub in this enclosure is recessed into the face of the enclosure and the recess cut-out is not large enough to allow mounting of Kicker's 12" grille. I have not developed a way to mount the grille yet, maybe Kicker's designers can provide some input ?
