Overview: The Morel MPS-HL is a speaker-to-RCA adapter for Morel MPS amplifiers. It allows you to connect the head unit's speaker level outputs to the amplifier's RCA preamp-level inputs. The MPS-HL works with amplifiers that only have RCA inputs, including the MPS 1.500, MPS 4.400, and MPS 5.950 amplifiers. A built-in 50-ohm load resistor steps down the speaker-level audio signal to preamp level to avoid overloading the amplifier's input stage. One MPS-HL is needed for each pair of speaker wires you connect from the head unit. Dimensions: Width 1.264", Height 1.576", Depth 1.357", Overall length 6".

Connections: The MPS-HL has a two-channel Euroblock (Phoenix) connector at one end (4 screw terminals). The screw terminals will accept up to 14-gauge speaker wire from the head unit. The adapter is marked for left and right + and - wires to get the correct polarity. The other end has stereo (white/left and red/right) RCA plugs for the amplifier connections.

Using this Morel MPS-HL 2-channel line level converter connected to the "B" outputs for instance on your Yamaha R-S202 would work for your application, Elijah. You will of course have to adjust the crossover on your sub as it will be a full range line level signal. This Morel unit is technically designed for car audio but there is no reason why it would not work here to send line level to an additional sub. This is a good way to get the signal in as your volume control will still be linear, unlike if you connected to a tape or record out. IF you prefer something that you can mount that is designed more for home audio you can also use this fantastic Russound ADP-1.2 Speaker-level converter. Any feedback noise? I remember back in the day that was an issue with them but if grounded the or were Groundable RCA's problem solved for the most part. I remember then not being very stable had to I keep adjusting them. Don't all amps have this already as part of the amp? I remember some had high level inputs. Don't they still have that if not much better then adding additional connections inline?

This would be best used with amps that do not have speaker level inputs. It also allows for the audio to be sent all the way to the amp and only be preamp level for the length of the cable to help keep noise out. That speaker level signal should not pick up noise while being sent to this part. The use of this part is not expected to create noise but also does not do anything to remove noise coming in on the speaker wire. I do not believe this will work for your setup. Speakers with bare wires typically need a receiver or an amp to power them. This item is wired straight through from input to output with 50 ohm resistors across the outputs. How can that provide a "line in" level? Looks like "speaker level" to me. Perhaps need to add a 10K (or something) in series with input terminals.

That will not be necessary as a 50 ohm resistor will cut down on the power that can flow on through to the output stage in a manor that is very similar to amps and how their power output is reduced with higher ohms or resistances

This is designed to take a speaker level output and convert it to RCA to send audio to an amp. It does not allow RCA outputs to send audio to passive speakers

I have a 1999 Saab 9-5 with the AS2 sound system (7 speakers, all 4-ohm Pioneer except the front door speakers which are 1.8 ohm Pioneer... all 7 speakers are powered off the same Pioneer factory amp unit). I want to run factory amp and speakers with new head unit. I have service manuals for factory head unit and factory amp unit. The factory head unit sends FL, FR, RL, and RR +/- signals to the amp through 8 separate wires, and that is all that happens between the two devices. However, these are "balanced" inputs, I have been told. My new head unit has 3 sets of RCA pre-outs... Front, Rear, and Sub. My question is, can I use one of these converters between the new head unit's FRONT pre-outs and the amp's FL&FR +/- signal cables, and then another between the new REAR pre-outs and the amp's RL&RR +/- cables? And if this will not work, please explain why for my own education? Thank you!

whats the maximum voltage in vi hi level this can handle?

I don't have the maximum limits on this nor can I find any mention of it on Morel's site. But I was able to see that in the manual for their amps, they can take up to 10V signals which means this can definitely handle up to that level of power.

No I don't think that would work for that application. Without knowing the exact power output of your receiver, I can pretty confidently say that LOC is not rated to handle that much input wattage. Second, there is no adjustments on the Morel LOC which would make it extremely difficult to match with the soundbar's input sensitivity. We might have some work-around solutions. Does this in any way degrade the signal quality coming from the amp, through the line level adapter? Will the attenuation of the signal (or overall volume rather) and the intensity of it affect the line level adapter?

The line level adapter will have a small effect on the sound quality, but this is unavoidable with any line output converter.
