The camera's wide view and visibility for night driving make it a must-have for the hard-drivin' Wrangler owner. You'll hardly notice it

Brandmotion includes an adjustable bracket and camera head extension piece so you can mount the camera between the spokes of a wide variety of rear-mounted spare tires, including aftermarket tires. You'll also find the wiring harness needed for factory integration as well as a handy module that plugs into your Jeep's OBD-II port and reprograms the factory radio to be compatible with the camera.

Installation Note: Some wire-splicing may be required so if this is your first install of this kind, you may want to consider a professional installation.

Note: A rear-view camera provides an additional view when reversing your vehicle. It is intended to be used in conjuction with your rear- and side-view mirrors to give a fuller picture of what's behind you. It is not intended as a replacement for your mirrors.

Pretty easy to install if you don't have a tuffy rear security enclosure to remove in order to access all the places to run wiring. The directions had been copied too many times and not from the original so they were hard to follow and to see the pictures, but plenty of videos on line to help with installation. Love the finished product, picture is great and a much needed piece of equipment for the Jeep Wrangler, it's just so hard to judge backing up with the spare tire blocking the rear view

The product is great. Is has some noise in the image during night time use,but is great in the day time. Considering this is the best product out there for factory navigation systems it doesn't bother us. Installation was easy, but the module took several times to get to program the system. And the horn never honked, the screen turned off and you could tell the nav system rebooted and the module light turned green.

Great for adding backup cam to stock Wrangler radios w/ LCD display.

Crutchfield customer from Martinsburg, WV on 9/23/2018

2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (JK)

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I had recently gotten the model of this Brandmotion camera for a new aftermarket radio I put in my 2014 Jeep Wrangler. My wife just purchased a 2018 Wrangler with the 430 NAV radio. She has no interest in going with an aftermarket radio but wanted a backup camera. Already having a good experience with this camera and seeing to 9002-8847 version made to integrate with a Wrangler factory radio with a LCD display and including the harness to provide a RCA connection for the camera input to the stock radio and module to do a "one time" flash to the system via the OBD2 port (which you would normally have to go to a dealership to have them do), for a bit extra money but not having to deal with the dealership; it was worth it to me. I will note; in the instructions, when using the OBD2 module to flash the system for use with the backup camera, it says the Jeep's horn will "honk twice" to confirm the flash was successful. This may vary depending on your Jeep. It did not do this exactly, although I cold tell it had run it's flashing "cycle". I followed the instructions as noted. I could tell the radio updated, powered down & then came back up. I let it set a couple of minutes, just to be certain everything was done before I turned the Jeep off and disconnected the module. I started the Jeep, shifted into reverse, and the camera switched on as it should. On automatics, there's no need to run a lead to the reverse light lead in the kick panel (white/grey wire) as with manuals.

Pros: Includes everything needed to add backup camera to Wrangler stock radio that has a LCD display. Includes OBD2 module to flash system for use with backup camera. No need to visit dealership to have that done.

Cons: Some will argue the added cost versus just visiting the dealer and paying them to perform the flash, but this kit includes the needed harness to make the RCA connection to the stock radio which may not have a RCA connection on it.

This is an awesome after market upgrade. It was fairly straight forward and easy to install. It can be a bit frustrating at times trying to route the wires through the rear door hinge and squeezing your upper body in the front foot well. However, the installation is very simple and the package comes with everything you need. We just bought our 2017 Wrangler and were disappointed that they didn't even offer a backup camera. So, the Brandmotion upgraded was the next best thing. Absolutely love it.

Pros: Looks and feels just like OEM. Easy to install No need to visit the dealer for radio programming

Cons: instructions pictures are poor a bit pricey

Wonderful product & excellent service. I researched many backup cameras for my 2016 Wrangler finally landing on Crutchfield's offer of the Brandmotion 9002-8847. Although not the cheapest price, what caught my attention was the 3 year warranty only obtained from the manufacturer with "professional installation". Crutchfield representative "Hogan" explained they provided 3 year warranty because of their vast technical support capabilities for this product. Hogan assisted with installation questions and spent time contacting Brandmotion on my behalf to determine how the Brandmotion FDMC 1900 wiring harness referenced in a Brandmotion review, would ease the installation. All in all about an hour and a half and two butt connectors later install completed. Works great! I couldn't be happier with the purchase! Hogan's assistance was fantastic and continued to build my confidence with Crutchfield for future purchases! THANKS!!!!!

Pros: Great product warranty! Great customer service! Ease of installation! Operates better than expected!

Cons: Camera should come with the wiring harness (FDMC 1900) as a kit. Easy installation without having to tap into OEM wiring harness.

Excellent Camera Option for Jeep Wrangler

ReneeM from Memphis, Tennessee on 7/27/2015

2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I finally settled on this camera for my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited after researching a lot of other cameras. I wanted a camera that installed without any modifications to my vehicle and had parking guide lines. This camera fit the bill and it works great. You must have a Jeep with the touchscreen radio...I have the 430 RBZ model without navigation, but you can also use it with the 430N RHB. It's not an HD camera but it works well for backup purposes and you can even see at night. The install process was a moderate level of difficulty if you are a weekend warrior/DIY type. The most difficult part was getting the camera wire through the tail gate of the Jeep so you could run it down the side. I ended up attaching the wire to some fish tape and carefully maneuvering it through. After that, the install was a breeze. Even the Jeep dealership commented on how nice the camera was, as they had never seen one like this. The mounting location is perfect, but beware that you can no longer use a tire cover. I would also recommend searching on YouTube and looking at the install video by AdventureDex.

Pros: - Camera location - OEM integration with Jeep radio without having to get the dealer to flash radio - No drilling of bumper because camera installs on tire holder

Cons: - Expensive, but worth it

Product Research

Features

Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit: The BrandMotion Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit (9002-8847) allows you to add a rearview camera to select Jeep Wranglers JK (including Unlimited version) with a factory radio display screen. The camera kit includes a rearview camera, spare tire mounting bracket, wiring harness, and hardware.

Note: This rear-view camera kit is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Vehicle Compatibility: The BrandMotion Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit (9002-8847) is designed specifically for 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK (including Unlimited version) that feature a factory radio display screen. The rearview camera kit includes an OBD-II programming module for the factory radio, eliminating the need for dealer programming. Your Jeep Wrangler can have a rear-mounted factory or aftermarket spare tire wheel.

CMOS Backup Camera: The BrandMotion Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit features a CMOS backup camera that delivers 648 x 488 lines of resolution with a 170° wide viewing angle. The CMOS camera has a low-light lux rating of 0.5 for driving at night.

Park Assist Lines: The backup camera provides parking assist lines on the screen of your vehicle's factory radio display monitor. These parking lines are there to assist you when backing up into a parking space. There are two vertical lines which help you judge the left and right edges of the parking space and your vehicle. There are also 4 color-coded horizontal lines that are used to distinguish how close you are getting to the end of the parking spot - Green (Clear), Orange (Getting Close), Yellow (Very Close), and Red (Stop).

Note: You can activate the Park Assist Lines by cutting the green wire (labeled "Parking Line") in the camera's harness.

Spare Tire Mounting Bracket: The BrandMotion Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit comes with a spare tire mounting bracket to mount the rearview camera inside your spare tire on back of your Jeep Wrangler. The adjustable neck of the spare tire mounting bracket allows you to swivel the neck up, down, left, and right to fit the camera head between the different spoke patterns on varying wheels. Also, included in the kit are two camera head extension brackets (short & long) to work with varying wheel depths. The spare tire mounting bracket is designed to work with both factory and aftermarket wheels for the Jeep Wrangler.

Q
Will this work with manual transmission?
[ DaveyJ  Jul 13, 2019 ]
2 answers
A
To my knowledge; yes. Take a look at the instruction manual available online. I have a manual transmission in my Jeep and have the Brandmotion camera just like this but for aftermarket radios. On it, for manual transmission vehicles, you tap into the reverse light lead in the Jeep's wiring in the passenger side kick panel. Can't remember the color code on the wire. The other end connects to the reverse "trigger" lead on the Brandmotion unit. When the Jeep is shifted into reverse, that lead sees voltage which in turn causes the radio's display to switch to the camera view. This unit, for factory radios, may be wired slightly differently. Please verify the info in the manual before ordering. My wife's Jeep which I installed this unit in, has an automatic transmison.
[ Jeremy  Jul 13, 2019 ]
A
The installation did not involve the transmission. Wires are run to the radio/GPS and then the radio was reprogramed. Should work.
[ Van  Jul 13, 2019 ]
Q
I have purchased this system and installed it. It is working great. I would like to know if I can turn off the "CHECK ALL SURROUNDINGS" banner the pops up when the jeep is shifted into reverse? It takes up too much of the screen.
[ David  Jan 06, 2019 ]
2 answers
A
I noticed it does take up a lot of the screen also, but it does go away after a few seconds. I have not tried to turn it off yet. I would be interested in turning it off also.
[ Jonathan  Jan 07, 2019 ]
A
To my knowledge, no. I believe it is programmed into the OEM Jeep head unit so that when it sees input (signal) from a reverse camera, the alert banner pops up. My wife's Jeep gives the same message after I installed this camera. Not a function of the camera itself but the Jeep's head unit, I believe. Probably "enabled" when you perform the OBDII flash for the camera.
[ Jeremy  Jan 06, 2019 ]
Q
Will this backup camera work with aftermarket touch screen head units? My Jeep doesn't have touch screen, so I would need a new head unit as well. Any recommendations for that?
[ Ben  Oct 26, 2018 ]
3 answers
A
This particular model is made specifically for integration with OEM Jeep head units. I don't recall the model #, but there is a Brandmotion model with the same equipment minus the OBDII flashing unit that is made for connection to aftermarket head units. It also costs less because it doesn't have or need the OBDII flash module. I used that model in my Jeep and connected it to my aftermarket head unit. My wife purchased a Jeep with an OEM radio and I used this model in her's.
[ Jeremy  Jan 06, 2019 ]
A
I'm sorry, my jeep has a factory touch screen. I was thinking about upgrading mine but I have watched videos and none of the ones I've found provide an answer to your question. I wish you luck in your quest
[ Gary L.  Oct 28, 2018 ]
A
This model is made to integrate with Jeep Wrangler factory touch screen radios. There is a version (can't remember model # at the moment) which is the same thing except it doesn't have the OBD2 flash unit or the plug made to plug directly to a Jeep factory touch screen head unit as it is made for connection to an aftermarket touch screen head unit. and those two things aren't needed. Bonus is it is less expensive than this kit. I'm running that version and have it connected to an Alpine i207-WRA head unit which I love but there are many good aftermarket touch screen head units at various price points that would be suitable. Comes down to the features you want and amount you want to spend.. Good luck in your search.
[ Jeremy  Oct 27, 2018 ]
Q
Is there anyway to buy the mount/bracket without the camera? I need the bracket only.
[ Chris  Aug 31, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
We do not offer the bracket by itself but you can try contacting Brandmotion directly. You can reach their Customer Service department by dialing: 877-276-6456
[ Ryan  Sep 05, 2018 ]  Staff
Q
Does this camera require the stock head unit to have navigation? Mine is the factory touch screen without Navi.
[ A  Nov 26, 2017 ]
2 answers
A
As long as your radio has the video input in the back, it will work. Contact the dealership to find out for sure. They should be able to pull up the information using your VIN number.
[ Steve  Nov 28, 2017 ]
A
I cannot say for sure as mine had the Nav too. I would think it should work as the screens are the same. The Brandmotion website appears to say you just need the touchscreen and does not mention nav. You could email Brandmotion directly to confirm. They responded quickly when I asked which models had the grid lines before I ordered from Crutchfield.
