About the Brandmotion SUTV-8858

Infrared view on your aftermarket radio

Brandmotion has taken a great idea and made it even better by adding infrared lights to their adjustable, Wrangler-specific rear-view system. On the trail or on the street, it always helps to have a brighter picture when you back up your Wrangler. Their SUTV-8858 rear-view camera integrates nicely into the rugged design of your Jeep Wrangler and displays everything it sees on your aftermarket touchscreen receiver or your touchscreen factory radio (using the included wiring harness). And you can even defeat parking lines at installation in case you prefer the ones provided by your receiver.

A fit for almost any tire

Brandmotion includes an adjustable bracket and camera head extension piece so you can mount the camera between the spokes of a wide variety of rear-mounted spare tires, including aftermarket tires.

Installation Note: Dealer activation is required if you're using this backup camera with your Jeep factory radio. You'll have to route the 23-foot cable from the camera location to your radio, and some wire-splicing may be required. If this is your first install of this kind, you may want to consider a professional installation.

Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)

What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Product Research

Features

Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit: The BrandMotion SUTV-8858 Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit allows you to add an infrared LED rear-view camera to select Jeep Wranglers with an aftermarket headunit that includes a monitor display and a rear-view camera input. The camera kit can be used with virtually any style of Jeep Wrangler spare tire.

Note: This rear-view camera kit is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Vehicle Compatibility: The BrandMotion Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit is designed specifically for 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK, and 2018-2021 Jeep Wrangler JL models that feature an aftermarket head unit with video monitor and composite video rear-view camera input.

CMD-III Backup Camera: The BrandMotion Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit features a CMD-III rear-view camera that delivers 648 x 488 lines of resolution with a wide 170° horizontal and 120˚ vertical viewing angle. The CMD-III camera features built-in infrared LEDs giving it a Lux rating of 0 for nighttime and low-light conditions.

Weather Resistance: The rear-view camera carries an IP67 waterproof rating.

Viewing Options: The SUTV-8858 rear camera comes defaulted to display Parking Grid Lines and in Mirror mode. These can be changed by connecting the 2 bare-ended wires for each on the camera cable:

  • Green: Connect wires to remove Parking Grid Lines.
  • White: Connect wires to switch from Mirror to Rear-View mode.

Spare Tire Mounting Bracket: The BrandMotion Jeep Wrangler Camera Kit comes with a stainless-steel spare tire mounting bracket to mount the rear-view camera inside your spare tire on back of your compatible Jeep Wrangler. The spare tire mounting bracket allows you to adjust the neck up, down, left, and right to fit the camera head between the different spoke patterns on varying wheels. Also, included in the kit are two camera head extension brackets (3" & 4.25") to work with varying wheel depths. The spare tire mounting bracket is designed to work with both factory and most aftermarket wheels for the Jeep Wrangler.

Wiring: All wiring for the add-on rear-view camera is included. The camera includes an attached 6' video cable that comes pre-connected to a 23' extension cable for running to the front of the vehicle. A 21" power/video adapter converts the video connector to a composite video jack for connecting to an aftermarket headunit's rearview camera input.

Optional Harness: The SUTV-8858 includes an RCA-to-22-pin harness for connecting the camera kit into a compatible factory video monitor.

Note: If using the optional RCA-to-22-pin harness, the factory system will need to be flashed by an authorized Jeep dealership, or using a Brandmotion Jeep Wrangler Flash Programmer Interface (sold separately).
