The safer way to park

I'm a total rear-view camera convert. For such a tiny addition to my vehicle, it can make a big difference in how I drive. No parking spot is too challenging now, and Audiovox's ACA801 backup cam delivers everything you need to be a parking pro too.

Wide 180º view

Once you power the ACA801 and run the included video cable to the screen up front in your dash, this high-performance camera delivers a wide 180-degree horizontal view. It's enhanced with active parking assist lines to more precisely show you where you're headed. The responsive lines bend when you turn your steering wheel and show you the projected path of your vehicle. The ACA801 is enhanced to give you a crisp picture, even in extremely low light, so no worries about backing up in a parking garage or at night. It can be surface-mounted or license plate-mounted.

Or use it for a front view

Audiovox gives you a mirrored mode in case you want to mount this on the front of your vehicle and keep an eye on high curbs or other scuff-makers.

Don't listen to the reviews complaining about the active lines. They work great! Camera is as clear as any OEM I've seen and is a great addition to my old pickup tied into my new Kenwood stereo system. I'd buy it again.

Bought an open box model. Showed signs of corrosion and was missing a bracket. The video cable was also too short for an SUV. I returned the item

Integrates perfectly with my new Sony receiver. Takes up minimal space on the bumper. Too many grid lines. I wish I could turn them off.

Great clarity on the backup camera image!

A Crutchfield chat agent helped me select this item. I already had a pioneer system installed which could accommodate a camera. The Crutchfield agent selected this one due to a wide angle lens, easy installation options, it has the lines to help me park and it works well in low light. All of these things were true. I feel like this was a big upgrade for not a lot of money. I had best buy install it since that's easy for me and I'm not very handy. Highly recommended backup camera!

Pros: Image is clear on my screen- better than anticipated. Works well in a low light garage.

Cons: Installation was a bit tricky due to my car and where the trunk opening handle is located. This camera is offset just a bit but I don't even notice.

I am very disappointed in this camera. Yes, the picture is very clear, but the guide lines when the camera is rear facing are just TOO much. It has colored lines which I could live with, but it also has annoying white lines that just overpower the white lines in parking lots especially at night. I can barely see the real lines on the pavement (or anything else for that manner) for the very bright white lines of the camera. The only way to disable the lines on this camera also reverses the field of view as would be needed on the front of a car. I would not buy this camera again.

Great picture quality

David from San Antonio, TX on 2/18/2019

Great picture day and night. The installation was easy to do, the RCA with the power wire at both ends made installation even easier but I would say that the wires are too small and fragile. Audiovox needs to spend a little more and increase the wire gauge. The picture is clear and vivid day and night and I have not experienced the issues with the parking lines. I hooked this up to my 2004 Dodge Ram Quad Cab and a new Pioneer AVH-2440NEX. I got this to update my truck for my 15 year-old daughter who will be driving my truck soon.

Pros: Great picture quality day and night, easy to install.

Cons: Poor power lead quality small gauge wire.

Easy to install and it works just fine. BUT its not that great of a camera. Yes you can adjust the camera up and down and yes it has the "Lane Finders" on it. The video feed is not that good. It has NO light(s) for backing up either.

Pros: Easy to install. Easy to adjust camera up or down Has Lane markers for Left and Right

Cons: Bad Low light vision. No Lights for backing up. Poor video quality at night.

So so picture

Crutchfield customer from Lakewood, CO on 4/2/2018

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

As a basic camera, it works but the OEM unit in my Chevy mirror is much clearer with more detail. I'm using this to view my 5th wheel hitch, and the picture difference is dramatic. Once the wiring is in place, you can change out the camera, so I'd do some reviews before you buy the camera first. Mime seems to throw a blue hue over the "area you are backing into" like between the parking lines. It's adequate, just doesn't seem exceptional

Features

Backup Camera: The Voxx ACA801 backup camera features a high-performance 1089 HD CCD image sensor that results in a cleaner, higher-quality image. It also features a 180° wide-angle lens that offers great visibility behind your vehicle. In addition, it has a light sensitivity of 0.1 Lux so the smallest amount of light is need to produce an image of useable quality.

  • Mirrored or Normal Mode: The Voxx ACA801 can be used as a backup camera with a mirror image or front camera with a normal image. By default the ACA801 is setup as a backup camera. To use it as a front camera, cut the thin white wire loop on the cable that is attached to the camera (this also disables the park assist lines).
  • Dynamic Park Assist Lines: When configured as a backup camera Voxx ACA801 will display dynamic park assist lines on your connected monitor to aid you in backing up into a parking spot. A built-in gyro-sensor allows the park assist lines to dynamically curve as you steer and angle your vehicle.

Note: This rearview camera is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rearview camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rearview camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Composite Video Output: The Voxx ACA801 backup camera is outfitted with a composite video connector (RCA) which makes it compatible with virtually any in-dash receiver with integrated video monitor and a composite video camera input. The total length of the camera's video cable is 23'.

Waterproof (IP68): The Voxx ACA801 features a waterproof (IP68) housing to protect it from the elements. It's totally protected against dust and protected against the effect of immersion between 15cm and 1m for the duration of 30 minutes.

Mounting Options: The Voxx ACA801 backup camera includes a license plate bracket which mounts behind your vehicle's license plate frame. A surface-mount bracket is included, if you cannot use the license plate mounting bracket. Mounting hardware is included for the installation of the surface mount bracket. Use your license plate's existing hardware to mount the license plate bracket. Both brackets allow you to adjust the up and down angle of the camera.

Note: The license plate bracket is designed to work best on vehicles that have a license plate located at the center and above the bumper. If your vehicle has a plate location that is offset to the left side, right side, or your plate is located under the bumper, then the surface-mount bracket is the better choice.

Power & Ground Wires: The Voxx ACA801 features a 14' accessory power wire (red) and a 14' ground wire (black); the 29' composite video cable aslo provides an accessory power wire. The power & ground wires will need to be hardwired. Power can be obtained from your vehicle's reverse light circuit or from the reverse gear wire of your aftermarket stereo (if applicable). The ground will need to be connected to your vehicle's metal chassis.

Note: Some vehicles with LED style tail lights will require the camera be connected to an accessory power source, as the tail light circuit is not designed to power other devices.

Customer Q&A

Q
Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
A
Recommended by a Crutchfield advisor after looking at some options, We picked this because it's reversable, will attach to my license plate holder, doesn't have lights on it, uses a CCD lense which will give a better image even in low light, and is compatible with the receiver that I picked.
