Got two of these actuators for my truck and installed them, They worked perfect. I added an alarm to my truck and these actuators and were easy to install, and I never done this type of installation. We will have to see how long they last now. Great product and easy to install. Thanks Crutchfield.

Pros: Universal fit that works on almost any vehicle

Cons: NONE

Standard 2-wire door lock actuator (Universal)

This was not my usual DIY project! I installed these on a 1989 Toyota Xtra-Cab w/o power anything in the doors. This vehicle has wear on the door tumbler locks. My goal was to minimize further wear and provide relative cheap convenience. I have the Code Alarm CA1153 alarm which has built-in relays. I ordered the DA-1 (2 of them) from Crutchfield. Prior to shipment, I received a call from Crutchfield Technical Support to insure that I knew what I was doing and that I was aware that some alarms require external relays (2 per door) for these to function. That is support "before the sale"!!! I didn't need relays with my CA1153. Product arrived and boxes did not contain the instructions, as advertised. No problem...I had previously downloaded them from Crutchfield. Product was high quality (Crutchfield doesn't carry junk). I also had limited room to install the actuators. Not having to mount the external relays simplified my installation. These doors had never been opened up since the vehicle was built. While doing so, I cleaned the tumblers, locks, and window mechanism w/WD40. I then used air compressor to blow out excess WD40. Tumblers were lubricated with graphite. I then used white lithium grease to lubricate the lock and window mechanism. Since no power was in door, I had to drill (Step Drill) and install rubber wire looms which are available on web for under $5 each. I installed shrink tubing over wires to further protect them.

Pros: Convenience Quality product Works well Relays not required if alarm contains internal relays Thank you Crutchfield!

Cons: A lot of research and physical work to install on this particular vehicle, but definitely worth the trouble. Since this is a "Universal" product, the instructions are very generic. Use with different vehicles, different alarms, and different vehicle options make this a complex project. 2nd Unlock Option on CA1153 requires a single external relay to function.

So far So good

So far these are good and do the job. Installed in an early Tacoma with no power locks. Both my boxes came with no instructions. Got them in PDF from Crutchfield. Instructions still somewhat vague. There is a small block that set screws to the slip in actuating rod on the motor. You then slip this block over the lock rod inside the door and tighten down. Very limited room in my install to get the screws tight. Ended up having to use a phillips bit and a 1/4 wrench to tighten them down. Then drilled two holes in the door inner skin and screwed the motor through the skin into the two tube looking pieces made onto the motor. Seems to hold tight, but as I said, instructions could be MUCH better. Biggest issue I had with them is that I did not know that I'd need to buy 4 relays as well to get them to operate with the CA1151 alarm I bought. You need two each side (lock, unlock). This can run your cost to do the job up quite a bit as it pays to get good quality relays. Don't buy cheap ones, get good ones. Then also the issue of finding room for two relays per side. Download instruction sheet has an easy diagram to follow on wiring them. The actuators are inexpensive (actually got free with a package deal Code alarm was putting on through this site) and only have a 30 day guarantee so I hope they hold up. I can say it is REALLY NICE to be able to hit the lock and unlock button on the alarm to open the doors.

Pros: Nice to have power locks. Inexpensive Working good so far

Cons: POOR and in my instance missing instructions (download them this site to get them) No indication that you needed to order 4 relays to install
