Commander Touch was my first and best choice to receive SiriusXm service. Crutchfield answered all my questions about the unit and its installation. The installation appointment was timely and convenient. The unit was installed without problem and works as advertised.

Pros: The cost and speed of installation

Cons: Unable to have SiriusXM service demonstrated to assure unit was able to receive signal

Good product but much harder to install than expected. Install was in a 2005 Mini and I checked with Crutchfield rep to see if a low skilled customer could install this unit. "Absolutely " was the response. It took a professional 3 hours and $200. Like all SiriusXM products I have owned it cuts out from time to time for a few seconds, thus the 4 stars and not 5.

Pros: Small and smart appearance

Cons: Difficult to install

Got a refurb unit and it's in perfect condition. Just what I needed until I get a replacement OEM head unit. Would have liked a more temporary mounting option as I have no dash space.

Pros: Compact, easy install, clear screen

Do not buy this radio. It's a great concept and looks good, but I have had nothing but trouble. I had to replace the original unit from Crutchfield under warranty (not a reflection on them but Sirius!). That unit was DOA!! NOTHING. It took an act of worthless congress to get me another one. Finally on my third radio, it works but still misses the mark. I'm waiting for it to quit again... Save your money, don't pay extra for this radio!

Pros: Appearance, size

Cons: Unreliable and Sirius Warranty Service is horrific to deal with

Wish there was a zero star for a rating. The first unit quit working about 2 months after I installed it, got a second from Sirius and it has quit also. I have two months of service left on my service agreement and I'm sure Sirius will give me a hard time about canceling my service. Their customer service reps really need to be able to speak better English !! On another note, I have no issues with Crutchfield or their service. This is just a bad product !!!!

i really liked this other than the tiny touchscreen.the thirty minute rewind feature was great.sometimes the buttons on the touch pad didn't work.i quit using this because the screen was so small i couldn't read it also the buttons were so close together that id hit two at a time.come out with a bigger touch screen and i will start using it again.

Pros: thirty minute rewind.extra channels.

Cons: tiny screen i couldn't read.buttons so close id hit two at a time.sometimes nothing would happen when id hit a button.make a larger screen optional and i will start using it again.

The radio constantly needs to be rebooted every other month otherwise it gets stuck. I have had this particular radio for about 1 year & I have had to go to to the local retailer about 4 or 5 times to have them reboot it because it basically gets stuck. We are traveling right now to my in-laws (about a 5 hr trip to Chattanooga) and of course no siruis xm for the trip.

Worst radio since the invention of car radios

Michel from Martinsburg, WV on 9/28/2017

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

If there was a 0 for this product, I'd give it. The radio itself is teeny touch. Unless you have the fingers of a child, the touching and swiping is a colossally frustrating pain. hitting the sweet spot is like a search for the holy grail! The person who put it in mounted the antenna on the dash, instructions clearly state on the roof, and it drops out constantly. The radio must be possessed since it randomly decides to change channels, even switching from page to page. I've been an XM customer since the beginning, but initiating the signal for this took 4 calls to Sirius CS. Next week I take the car back to have the radio re-installed, which means a week of drop outs, random switching stations, swiping and tapping and waiting for the signal to change. At this point, I'm almost tempted to return to terrestrial radio!! PS if you check Google reviews there are an inordinate amount of "inappropriate reviews" which leads me to believe more people hate this radio than love it.

Pros: none so far

Cons: teeny touch screen, to much touching and swiping, reception drops out, randomly changes channels, to much crap if all you want is music, customer service leaves a lot to be desired

This device was easy to install, but I had a hard time finding a good ground for the unit. The aux port had a too much noise playing through the speakers, so I used the FM adapter and it sounds great. I like the look of the oem stereo and I added siriusxm this works for me. The display is small and the touch screen response is a little slow.

Pros: Add to your existing oem head unit, 3 months free subscription from Siriusxm, and easy to remove if you get rid of your current vehicle.

Cons: The display is small and hard to read sometimes, the aux port doesn't work with some vehicle models, and the touch screen is a little slow.

It misses the mark on every level!

Tim D from Fairfield, OH on 7/10/2017

This thing actually sucks. First, the actual touchscreen is so small that it's almost useless unless you have the tiniest of fingers. The icons are very hard to touch without accidentally touching more than one. Beyond that, navigation is slow and clunky. Not at all intuitive. What's worse is that I called Sirius tech support to help me with display settings and navigation and they don't even have a manual for it in the tech department. The foreign "technician" told me she would have to Google my question to find out how to help me. Sorry Sirius, but I can do that myself. Very disappointed with the device AND the lack of technical support. I'll never buy another.

After a road trip with my wife in my new Cherokee, she had to have satellite radio. Ended up paying less after rebates, etc & installed it in her Miata. Very pleased with the sound, even through the FM adapter.

Pros: Install was straightforward & the unit works as advertised.

Cons: Menus are a bit small for 60 year old eyes, but it plays as well as factory radios.

I installed the SiriusXM Commander using the FM antenna interface, in my Porsche 987 with the Bose system. I took a great deal of time and careful caution. Installation took three hours. I mounted the touchscreen in between the factory system and the steering column. Aesthetically it is nondescript, and very convenient from the drivers seat. It works beautifully. The perfect solution for a nonsatellite equipped vehicle.

not worth it

Dave from Ft Belvoir, VA on 9/18/2016

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Honestly, the commander touch is to radios what the original iPhone would be smart phones in 2016. It's incredibly slow to respond, the instructions are so / so. The menu system is not brilliant and you cannot enter channels manually, you have to scroll through the list - until you get stuck in a genre of music that you no doubt don't like, then have to call Sirius. Their support is very infuriating. The music signal is ok, but the slow to respond display and inconvenience really detract from the entire experience.

Pros: I got nothing...

Cons: it's so challenging to use as to actually discourage you from subscribing to satellite radio. Seriously, get a satellite ready radio head unit instead, it will be slightly more expensive up front but will save you hours of usage frustration in the long run.

I have to switch out aftermarket car stereo equipment from my company car every year. The last several years I have been installing and uninstalling everything from amps, touchscreen head unit and speakers/subs. Gets quite expensive of course to enjoy sound like this. Simplifying this year with an easy satellite radio add on that I can do in a quick install into a 2017 CRV. [ Jeremy  Mar 12, 2017 ]

Sorry, can't help. I installed this rec in 2006 Jag Mod S into existing radio w/Nav. But spoke with Crutchfiled before I bought. They send rec and adp cord to plug into radio. It all worked fine directly thru channel on radio. Only problem, as it connects thru antenna plugs, AM radio all static. But it's ok. Suggest call Crutchfield, they were very helpful setting up.

Hi there. Antenna adapters for your specific vehicle should be able to be purchased to accommodate the FM direct adapter. You will buy an adapter to go from the fm direct module to your factory head unit if necessary. Here is the link to Crutchfield's products with these types of adapters. Have a look and call Crutchfield to help you make sure you buy the right one. It will definitely give you mutch better sound. There are other options for wiring directly to factory stereos that can give you even better sound depending on the factory stereo. Ask the advisor about your best sound option. They'll hook you up. Hope this helps. Jeremy https://www.crutchfield.com/g_119400/Car-Antennas-and-Adapters.html?o=f

Is the SiriusXM Commander Touch sense touch with motorcycle gloves?
[ Franz  Jul 02, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
While it may be a couch screen, the controls are fine enough to change channels and edit settings, Tbickee finger and or gloves are difficult due to the slow response and lack of feedback from t system with changes. This produces unintended channel selection or non-response too often for my liking.

My 2006 Lincoln Town Car system is "sat ready" and has some controls integrated into the OEM head. Will this integrate or stand alone? What systems would integrate with the OEM system?
[ Guido  Aug 11, 2017 ]

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

if i connect the three power units together to a 12 volt lighter socket, do i still have to ground the wire?
[ corms  Dec 14, 2016 ]

You'll need to connect all of the wires (12volt constant, 12 volt switched, Illumination & ground) properly for the unit to work, yes. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5

Q
Can this receiver be used with any home kits and also switched between vehicles?
[ nadnerbs  Oct 26, 2016 ]
1 answer
A
No. This model specifically is designed as a more subtle installation where you only see the control panel so, it does not mount into a "dock" and cannot be removed like the other "Dock and Play" models. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5

Q
Could I connect the three power inputs together and wire it to a 12 volt lighter socket plug for quicker movement from one vehicle to another? I like the features of this unit but want portability.
[ Mike  Jul 14, 2016 ]
1 answer
A
You could, yes. But, there would be more compact SXM units for doing that. This one has a LONG wire from the control head to the "something else" box. The real issue with portability is all the wire, in my opinion. But, yes, on paper, what you want to do will work.

Will the FM connection for this work on my 2015 Honda Civic SE? Thanks.
[ Alexander  Jan 10, 2016 ]
1 answer
A
Per the research we have on file for your '15 Civic SE you can use the FM Direct connection on the SiriusXM Commander Touch, but you would need this antenna adapter to connect the factory antenna into the FM Direct connector: http://www.crutchfield.com/app/product/item/default.aspx?I=12040HD11 And then you'd need this adapter to go from the FM Direct connection back to the factory radio in your Civic: http://www.crutchfield.com/app/product/item/default.aspx?I=12040HD21 My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159
