More details on the Withings Pulse HR
Overview: The Withings Pulse HR (WAM03) is a health and fitness tracker that keeps you informed on your activities and your progress toward a healthy lifestyle. The wrist-worn device is equipped with a heart rate monitor, connected GPS, multisport tracking, and an OLED screen. It even tracks your sleep. All of your activity data can be analyzed and viewed on your smartphone or tablet via the Health Mate app. Pulse HR has a long-life rechargeable battery, with a 20 day battery life between charges.
Rugged Design: Pulse HR features a top case made of hardened polycarbonate with a 316L stainless steel back. The silicone wrist band fits wrists up to 7.9" in circumference. The device is water resistant up to depths of 165 feet (50 meters). It has a built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery that can operate for up to 20 days on a single 2-hour charge using the included charging cradle (with a standard 5V 1A mobile device charger). A 1-hour charge will take the battery to approximately 80% capacity. Pulse HR is 0.756" wide x 2" high x 0.42" thick with a 9.625" long wrist band. It weighs only 1.1 ounces.
Health Mate App: Pulse HR connects wirelessly via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to the Health Mate app. With Health Mate, you can keep track of your activities, sleep, and health stats, including progress made and other trends. You can set goals and track your progress toward meeting those goals. After a workout, you can view heart rate zones, calories burned, duration, distance, and other data. The Pulse HR device has a limited memory, and you will have to open Health Mate regularly to sync your data to the app. The data syncs automatically after certain events occur, or manually, when desired. The app is compatible with iPhone and iPad running iOS 10.0 or later. It works with the Apple watch with watchOS version 3.0 or later. The app is also available for Android devices (version varies with device).
OLED Display: Pulse HR's OLED display is 120 x 88 pixels, and features numerous screens to keep you informed of your activity and health data. In addition to showing the date and time, you can view your heart rate, number of daily steps, distance traveled, and calories burned. Pulse HR displays up to 5 exercises you can quickly access when you start a workout. You can also view the battery level, and the time of your next alarm. When Pulse HR is paired with your smartphone, you can receive notifications from your calendar, email, texts, and phone calls. The order of the screens you view can be customized. If you want to deactivate notifications, you can select the "Do Not Disturb" feature.
Heart Rate: The Pulse HR Health & Fitness Tracker features a heart rate monitor on the bottom of the device. The monitor uses photoplethysmography (PPG), which uses green LED light to detect variation in the level of blood in the wrist to determine the heart rate. By default, the device takes a heart rate measurement every ten minutes, allowing you to see how the rate fluctuates during the day. There is an option to monitor the heart rate continuously. (This will deplete the battery level much faster.) If you wear the Pulse HR every day, your average heart rate appears in your Timeline in the Health Mate app. It also shows the duration you entered the different heart rate zones (light, moderate, intense, peak) during the day.
Activity Tracking: Pulse HR can help you monitor your activities, and view your progress toward your daily goals. With the built-in MEMS 3-axis accelerometer, the device automatically starts tracking your activity, whether you're walking, running, or swimming. A progress bar on the home screen shows your progress toward your daily goal. Pressing the button on the side of the device gives you access to the exact number of steps, distance, or calories burned. The Health Mate app provides even more details, including graphs so you can see your history and progress.
Multi-Sport: Pulse HR can track up to 30 different activities that you can select directly on the tracker screen. In the Health Mate app, you can select and arrange up to 5 exercises that you can quickly access. While you work out, Pulse HR uses the built-in accelerometer and heart rate monitor to track your workout intensity, heart rate zones, and calories burned. When paired to your smartphone via Bluetooth, Pulse HR uses connected GPS to track the route you have covered on a map in the Health Mate app. Connected GPS is available for all distance-based outdoor activities, such as walking, running, biking, and canoeing.
Competition: Pulse HR and the Health Mate app can give you extra motivation by allowing you to compete with other users. You can invite people to join your Leaderboard so you can interact with them and compete in activities with them. While using the Leaderboard, you can encourage others, show off to them, and message them. If working out alone, you can gain some extra incentives by working toward and earning individual badges and other virtual rewards for daily and cumulative goals reached.
Sleep Tracking: When you wear the Pulse HR while you sleep, the device will track your sleep automatically. In the Health Mate app, you can retrieve your sleep data to show the total time you spent sleeping, time is deep sleep, time spent awake, and the consistency of your bedtime and rise times. A daily Sleep Score of 0 to 100 is provided to indicate the duration and average quality of your night's sleep. Your average resting heart rate is also viewable in the app. Pulse HR can also be used to set an alarm for your wake-up time.
