About the Primare CD15 Prisma
It plays CDs and lots more
It plays CDs and lots more
CD players with DACs that can handle other digital music sources aren't new, but we haven't seen one with the versatility of Primare's CD15 Prisma before. It sounds great playing your CDs, as well as stored and streamed digital media. Both wired and wireless connectivity and control capabilities are handled by Primare's brilliant Prisma network streamer technology.
Attention to every detail, inside and out
The Philips slot-load disc drive that Primare chose for the CD15 was originally developed for automotive use. It's extremely reliable and well isolated from both external and internal vibrations, ensuring long life and low noise. The built-in high-performance 32-bit DAC presents virtually any digital music source with clarity and detail, while also sounding smooth and unfatiguing.
Using the player's RCA outputs, you can select either fixed or variable volume level. Choose fixed mode for connecting to a receiver or preamp, while variable mode is the best option for connecting directly to an amplifier or powered speakers.
Primare's Prisma network player makes streaming music easy
Prisma is actually a bundle of technologies that provides a broad range of network music player features and functionality. It makes it easy to discover, explore, and share high-performance music playback, whether the source is stored or streamed, wired or wireless. Whether you're listening to Spotify® or files from your NAS drive, the Prisma control app provides total system management from your mobile device.
The CD15 Prisma also features Chromecast built-in, a streaming portal that lets you connect directly to hundreds of streaming applications. Chromecast built-in streams audio directly from the cloud, so you get the highest sound quality. It's even possible to enjoy high-res music (up to 24-bit/96kHz) from services like TIDAL and Qobuz. The CD15 Prisma is also Roon Ready (firmware update required).

CD15 Prisma: The CD15 Prisma is a compact complete digital music source featuring a slot-load dedicated CD drive with Prisma control and connectivity technology feeding a carefully crafted DAC stage and finely tuned analog output stage, allowing for full featured digital music playback from either stored or streamed media, as well as multi-room/multi-zone capabilities. In fixed output mode it is a complete digital music source for any high end audio system. In variable output mode, simply connect a pair of powered speakers to form a complete compact digital music system.
Phillips Slot-Load Disc Drive: The Philips slot-load disc drive (CDM-M10) chosen for use in CD15 was originally developed for the transportation industry, and as a result is extremely reliable and well isolated from external and internal vibrations, ensuring long life and low noise. An internal interphase I2S and SPDIF digital audio interface combined with buffered memory is utilized for improved performance.
Note: The CD15 supports playback of CD-Audio discs; as well as CD-R/CD-RW discs with PCM music files (up 44.1kHz). Its compatible with 12cm discs only (not compatible 8cm disc). Not compatible with SACD or DVD Audio discs.
High Performance 32-Bit Stereo DAC: In order to allow for playback of virtually any digital source with absolute accuracy and musicality, a high performance 32-bit stereo DAC chipset was selected for the CD15 that is capable of achieving -112dB THD+N with 120dB (stereo) S/N, while supporting up to 192kHz PCM and 128/5.6MHz DSD. This high peformance DAC integrates a newly developed switched capacitor filter "OSR Doubler" that greatly reduces sound degradation from noise shaping, achieving a flat noise floor up to 200kHz. An innovative design technique utilizing a symmetrical layout for the left and right channels prevents signal quality deterioration, and a 32-bit digital operation block provides full 32-bit processing.
Custom Linear Power Supply: A custom linear power supply is combined with a switch mode standby supply (turned off when in playback mode to minimize noise) to deliver on demand the precise power needed.
Analog & Digital Outputs: The Primare CD15 Prisma is outfitted with both analog and digital audio outputs. There is an unbalanced RCA stereo analog output, plus an optical (toslink) digital output and coaxial (RCA) digital output. The digital outputs support 16-bit/44.1kHz PCM audio, while the analog outputs can be set to Fixed or Variable.
USB-A Port: The Primare CD15 Prisma features a rear-panel USB-A port for connection of a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) device, such as a USB thumbdriver or hard disk drive (some hard disk drives will require external AC power). Its capable of handling up to 24-bit/192kHz for WAV, AIFF, FLAC, and ALAC Hi-Res music files; up to 128/5.6MHz for DSD lossless audio files, and up to 320kbps/48kHz for MP3, AAC and WMA compressed music files.
Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The Primare CD15 Prisma features built-in Bluetooth with support for wireless music streaming (A2DP), playback control (AVRCP) and multi-device pairing (SSP). The CD15 Prisma CD/Network player can be paired with a variety of Bluetooth-enabled devices; including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. The Bluetooth wireless range is approximately 33'.
- Wireless Music Streaming: You are able to wirelessly stream stored music, music apps, and other audio content from your Bluetooth-enabled device to the CD15 Prisma CD/Network player. You can use the included remote to control Volume, Play/Pause and Skip functions. All other playback control, search functions, and song/artist/album display will still need to be done from your Bluetooth source device.
- Multi-Device Pairing: Simple Secure Pairing (SSP) allows devices to be paired without entering PIN codes. The CD15 Prisma remembers multiple devices and connects automatically to the last paired device when turned on again. Only one device can be connected to the CD/Network player for playback at a time.
- The CD/Network player does not support Bluetooth hands-free communication for making and answering phone calls.
- Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the CD15 Prisma.
