About the iFi DC Blocker

Get rid of amplifier transformer hum

When too much DC voltage gets into a larger amplifier's toroidal transformer, the voltage gets oversaturated and the amplifier itself starts to hum. While that hum isn't audible through your speakers, it's not a pleasant sound at all and can get in the way when you're trying to enjoy lower-volume listening sessions. The DC Blocker is a forward-thinking product from iFi that was designed to fix this exact problem. It does so by soaking up any residual DC voltage from the main line going into your amp and dissipating it internally.

The DC Blocker plugs into the rear IEC outlet on compatible amplifiers. Its small, unobtrustive form factor means it won't get in the way of any other connectors, cables, or sockets. Installation is easy: just plug the DC Blocker in to your amplifier, plug your amplifier's power cable into the DC Blocker, and enjoy hum-free performance.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The iFi Audio DC Blocker is designed to do one thing -- to eliminate the DC voltage that is emitted from amplifier transformers which causes a mechanical hum. The device plugs into the rear IEC power inlet, in front of your mains power cable, and simply keeps DC voltage from getting into the amplifier and the toroidal transformer. The DC Blocker is small, only 1-1/2" x 1-1/4", and, when plugged in, protrudes about 2" from the back of your receiver/amplifier. It has hospital-grade male and female IEC 3-prong connectors.

DC Hum Causes: If you have a large amplifier or receiver, it's likely that you can hear a mechanical hum if your place your ear close to the chassis. (The noise is not coming through the speakers.) This is caused by a small amount of DC voltage in the mains power which gets into the power transformer where it becomes saturated. DC Blocker, with its Zero DC Block technology, blocks the incoming DC voltage, up to 1,200mV.

Other Attributes: While the DC Blocker is doing its job, it safely retains its EMI shielding from electromagnetic interference, and does not affect the safe operation of your equipment. The device has universal IEC connectors, and can be used anywhere in the world.
