Excellent and inexpensive stand alone headphone amp.

I needed this ZEN CAN to power my new A-T phones, as I did NOT want to keep plugging it into the 3.5mm jack on the front of my preamp. I would've needed an adapter to get from 1/4" anyway. This small amp sits under my NAD tuner, and I just leave the phones plugged in, and, either turn on the power amp, OR, turn this amp on. With my 420 Ohm phones, I did need to turn the ZEN CAN gain all the way to 18, and, while leaving the volume control on the CAN around 12 o'clock (as recommended) I can increase the volume with the preamp remote.
Pros: Small, works well, lots of flexibility with inputs/outputs, 1/4 phone jack on front.

iFi Audio ZEN CAN Signature MZ99

It is simply outstanding. I was specifically looking for a headphone amp without a DAC to pair with my Astell&Kern Kaan Alpha HiRes DAP and my Sennheiser HD 800 S headphones. When I paired the two initially I knew the Kaan Alpha would drive the high impedance cans, but I also knew that to achieve the full potential of the headphones a dedicated amp would likely be necessary. With both analog balanced 4.4mm pentaconn input and headphone output , DAC free, utterly quiet and colorless circuitry, and a compact desktop footprint, the iFi Audio Zen Can Signature MZ99 fit my need perfectly. I chose the Signature MZ99 version for the approximately 18% gain in power output over the standard edition model. I couldn't be happier.

I have been dealing with Crutchfield since the 80's when it was mail order no computer. these guys have alway's been tops when it came to audio equip. car or home. (I believe my Pioneer Super Tuner ) was purchased from Crutchfield.......well back to my review, I had a problem with my iFi ZEN amp, I spoke with Tech support and the guy had me another one within 3 days I will keep using crutchfield for all of my audio needs, as for the product it is awesome I also purchased the Meze 99 Classic headphones and WOW what a awesome combination. Thanks again Crutchfield.

Top build quality, plenty of power, small size

Simple hookup to a CD player, Node 2i streamer and my Meze 99 Classic headphones. Plenty of power, volume knob is good quality. I use two sources for this amp, a circa 2006 McIntosh MVP 861 CD player and a Node 2i streamer/DAC with a Shiit Sys A/B switch for those two sources. Works great!
Pros: -Small size with top end build quality and weight -simple set up -excellent sound -purpose made for the Meze 99's -not intrusive, simple to use once connected
Cons: Nothing that doesn't border on trivial.
