About the Audiolab 6000CDT

Eric A.

A CD-reading specialist

The Audiolab 6000CDT is designed to work with the company's 6000A — an integrated amplifier that already has a premium DAC built-in. As a result, this transport-only player uses all of its hardware and circuits to accurately retrieve data from your favorite discs. Sending pure digital signals to a separate DAC keeps noise and interference to a minimum, for the best possible sound.

The player features a read-ahead digital buffer that reduces disc-reading failures, and may even allow you to play slightly damaged CDs. It uses a sophisticated master clock that reduces jitter that can mar playback.

Features

CD Transport: The 6000CDT is a dedicated CD transport incorporating the same slot-loading mechanism as Audiolab's flagship CD player, the 8300CD. Extremely robust and reliable, it uses read-ahead digital buffering to reduce disc-reading failures, able to play scratched and damaged CDs that are unreadable by conventional mechanisms. By mounting the transport in its own, electromagnetically shielded enclosure, and including a dedicated power supply, the digital signal extraction from any CD is accurate and precise as it is possible to achieve.

Note: The Audiolab 6000CDT is a CD transport; not a CD player. It is not equipped with its own built-in DAC.

Slot Loading Mechanism: Using Audiolab's slot loading mechanism, the transport uses read-ahead digital buffering to reduce disc reading failures and deliver the highest level of digital signal extraction from a wide range of CDs, even capable of reading scratched and damaged CDs that are unreadable by conventional mechanisms.

  • The Audiolab 6000CDT only supports playback of CD Audio discs (44.1kHz).
  • Not compatible with SACD, DVD Audio, CD Text, or CD-R/RW discs.

Master Clock: The Audiolab 6000CDT's master clock is controlled by a temperature-compensated crystal oscillator, enabling the digital output from both coaxial and optical sockets to exhibit vanishingly low levels of jitter (digital distortion).

Optical & Coaxial Digital Outputs: The 6000CDT's onboard digital decoder utilizes digital coax and optical outputs to deliver the maximum versatility. There is one coaxial (RCA) digital output and one optical (toslink) digital output that can be used to connect an external DAC, preamplifier, or integrated amplifier.

Note: The 6000CDT does not offer any analog audio outputs.

OLED Screen: The front-panel OLED screen indicates track number and remaining track time. It does not offer song/artist/album information.

Controls: The Audiolab 6000CDT features front-panel, push-button controls and comes with an IR wireless remote control.

  • IR Remote: The included IR remote control provides wireless operation of the Audiolab 6000CDT, as well as control of an Audiolab integrated amplifier (such as the 6000A). Remote control functions for the CD transport include Power On/Off, Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track, Repeat Disc, Program (99), plus direct track access (0-9).
  • Front-Panel: The front-panel includes the following control functions - Power On/Off, Eject, Play/Pause, Stop, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat Disc.

Notes:

  • There is no eject button on remote; the eject button is only on the front-panel of the CD transport.
  • The Random button on the remote is not functional.

12V Trigger Outputs: The 6000CDT has a pair of 12V trigger outputs (3.5mm) on the rear-panel that can activate the Audiolab 6000A integrated amp's or any other component's trigger input. This will enable your connected devices to be brought in and out of standby using the trigger connections.

Auto Standby: The 6000CDT CD transport will automatically enter standby mode after 20 minutes or 1 hour of no playback signal and control inactivity.

Detachable AC Power Cord: The Audiolab 6000CDT comes with a detachable 6.5' IEC 2-prong AC power cord.

Q
will this work well with the Denon dra800 receiver? best way to hook it up?
[ David  Mar 28, 2021 ]

A
Yes. Very nice receiver. I use an Optical SPDIF digital out from the Audiolab 6000CDT to a pretty decent DAC and then to my preamp. You can use a SPDIF out from Audiolab to the Optical SPDIF input on your Denon dra800H. It has a DAC built in. I love my Audiolab and highly recommend it.
[ EARL  Mar 29, 2021 ]
A
I'm not familiar with the Denon unit but if it has a digital input (coax or toslink) you can interface this device with the Denon. Keep in mind that this unit is only a digital CD transport. It does require a DAC of some kind in order to perform as designed. I'm currently using my unit with a DAC-Magic 100 by Cambridge Audio, and the connection I'm using is toslink (optical cable). Sounds great!!!
[ GAMALIEL  Mar 29, 2021 ]
A
It will work. Connect to the optical or coaxial input on the Denon.
[ GRANT  Mar 28, 2021 ]
A
The 6000CDT is only CD transport so it requires a digital to analogue conversion (DAC) which it does look like your receiver has but you can confirm this by looking on the back for an open coaxial(coax) and/or an optical(toslink) input. Then use a coax or optical cable to connect; the opinion is that the coax is "better".
[ Flemming  Mar 28, 2021 ]
A
You have to first run the output from the 6000 cdt to a dac or an integrated amp with a dac . You can't go from the 6000 to an amplifier.
[ Tom  Mar 28, 2021 ]
A
I've the Denon x4500h, the Audio Lab should work flawlessly assuming you use a high quality audio cable.
[ VICTOR ANTHONY  Mar 28, 2021 ]
Q
Can this unit read Sacd?

A
This fantastic Audiolab 6000CDT is a true stunner John, especially at the sale price right now. Sadly, it is not compatible with SACD, DVD Audio, CD Text, or CD-R/RW discs. The Arcam CDS50 in the link below is one of our most affordable SACD units and it does provide the Wi-fi streaming capability as well for the buy-in, check it out! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_410CDS50/Arcam-CDS50.html

Q
Does the height measurement (3 & 3/16) include the attached feet?
[ R  Apr 15, 2022 ]
10 answers
A
yes it does
[ JOSEPH  Apr 18, 2022 ]
A
Actual height when measured overall (feet included) is 3.148" So even with the feet, it's slightly less than 3/16.
[ ANDY  Apr 17, 2022 ]
A
The dimension includes the attached feet.
[ DAVID  Apr 17, 2022 ]
A
Have no idea on the measurement. I'm sure a crutch field rep could get that info for you. Aside from that, For the money and then some, What a great transport!!!!! Mine is working off a Benchmark Dac3 B. Clarity, dimension, dynamic impact, etc etc. Buy it, if it fits into your system. Way under priced, Glad it is. I have 2 systems, both are using this transport. Robert TN
[ ROBERT  Apr 17, 2022 ]
A
Yes it does
[ LORETTA  Apr 16, 2022 ]
A
I measured more like 3 and 1/16 to 3 1/8 - with feet.
[ GRANT  Apr 15, 2022 ]
A
I am measuring 3 1/8th. So there might be an extra 1/16th of head room for error (at least in my case).
[ DENNIS  Apr 15, 2022 ]
A
Yes, including the feet.
[ ALAN  Apr 15, 2022 ]
A
Yes, it does include the attached feet
[ ALAN  Apr 15, 2022 ]
A
Yes, its 3 3/16 including the feet.

Q
I want to connect this unit to my Nad t778 do I still need a dac ?
[ sean  Oct 26, 2021 ]
13 answers
A
Not if your unit has a built in DAC. I am a firm believer that any, with very few reservations DAC's are as good as an aftermarket, stand alone unit. Have a Benchmark 3B DAC. Try it, 30 days free trial. Reasonable. Robert TN Crutchfied has some also. Give them a try.
[ ROBERT  Apr 17, 2022 ]
A
Does your NAD have digital ins? If it does, then you're all set. The AudioLab is a transport only, with only digital outs. When I'm doing ask one of the Crutchfield experts. They are awesome!
[ NICHOLAS  Oct 27, 2021 ]
A
Not familiar with the NADt778. That unit must have a DAC in it for the Audio lab 6000 CDT to work. 6000 has no DAC just a transport. But a great transport for the money. I use it with a stand alone benchmark DAC 3B and my cd's sounds wonderful!!!. Hope this helps. Robert TN
[ ROBERT  Oct 27, 2021 ]
A
You can use NAD build in dac so no need a dac. You can still use a external dac if you don't want to use NAD build in dac.
[ SHIH CHIA  Oct 27, 2021 ]
A
Looks like your amp has digital inputs (co-ax and optical) which typically means it has a built-in DAC.
[ JAMES  Oct 26, 2021 ]
A
The unit is a transport only, hence no dac.
[ VICTOR ANTHONY  Oct 26, 2021 ]
A
The Nad has a dac built in, so you're all set. You may connect the 6000cdt with either a good quality S/PDIF Toslink optical cable, or a S/PDIF digital coax cable.
[ CHRIS  Oct 26, 2021 ]
A
Not familiar with the nad but if it has a digital input then it has an internal dac. Otherwise you'll need an external dac.
[ Tom  Oct 26, 2021 ]
A
Dac is in your reciever so your good to go
[ PHILIP  Oct 26, 2021 ]
A
I'm case my previous answer wasn't clear, you can use the DAC in the NAD, you don't need to purchase an additional DAC.
[ STEVE  Oct 26, 2021 ]
A
Yes you will need a DAC. According to the specs, the T778 has an internal DAC. It looks like you can connect via Coaxial or Optical and maybe RCA as well. I would use a quality coaxial audio interconnect.
[ STEVE  Oct 26, 2021 ]
A
I can't speak specifically to the NAD but I connected mine to a Parasound HINT and the sound is superior. I asked the same question to an engineer at Parasound and was informed the built in DAC was better than most stand-alone DACs. Hope that helps.
[ THOMAS  Oct 26, 2021 ]
A
As long as the Nad t778 has an optical input on the back and based on my google search it appears that it does. A great CD player!
