Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)

What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Pro tip: This camera mounts on the driver's side, making it off-center. We recommend turning off the parking lines at installation for best results.

Note: A rear-view camera provides an additional view when reversing your vehicle. It is intended to be used in conjuction with your rear- and side-view mirrors to give a fuller picture of what's behind you. It is not intended as a replacement for your mirrors.

Features

Jeep Wrangler Rear-View Camera: The Crux CCH-01W rear-view camera is specifically designed for 2007-up Jeep Wranglers with an aftermarket in-dash multimedia or navigation receiver installed. Your aftermarket receiver must feature an integrated video monitor and a composite video camera input, plus reverse wire output. Now you'll be able to view what's behind you on your in-dash receiver's video monitor when you put your vehicle in reverse.

Note: The CCH-01W rear-view camera is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Mounting: The Crux CCH-01W mounts to your 2007-up Jeep Wrangler's license plate. The rear-view camera is attached to a plastic lamp housing which replaces the factory lamp housing on your Jeep Wrangler's license plate. The lamp and rear-view camera housing is waterproof.

Connections: The CCH-01W includes a 19.5' signal cable which plugs into the CCH-01W rear-view camera's attached 19" power/signal cable and your in-dash aftermarket multimedia or navigation receiver's camera input. There is also a 47" power/ground cable which plugs into the rear-view camera's 19" power/signal cable and hardwired to power and ground of your vehicle. In addition, the 19.5' signal cable also features a reverse wire that hardwires to your aftermarket head unit's reverse wire output and hardwires to your vehicle's backup-light circuit.

Specifications:

  • Resolution: 420 TV lines
  • Pixels: 510 x 582
  • Viewing Angle: 120 degrees
  • Low Light: 0.4 lux

Customer Q&A

8 questions already asked

Q
Do you have to connect anything other than the Video input to the after market touch screen?
[ Rod73  Jun 08, 2021 ]

A
Not a thing, just follow the directions with the unit. I did cut , I believe the white wire and taped it up since the camera is not centered with the vehicle. But that is all explained, no problem.

I have the factory U-connect radio and no other connections are necessary besides a ground wire. If you have the factory radio it will require the dealer to re-flash it ($150.00 fee) if its an aftermarket unit I assume it will work right away. Only took me an hour to do the wiring. Be careful with installing the camera though, the clips are very flimsy and I broke one side. It still stays in place regardless. Hope that answers your question.

Q
I have a Kenwood DNX576s. To activate the camera do I connect the reverse wire from the unit(white/purple) or reverse light wire?

A
I don't remember. But Crutchfield tech support was very helpful whenever I had to call in
[ JACK  Mar 12, 2021 ]
A
It's been a couple of years but I believe you conect the purple wire to the reverse wire in the vehicle, the white wire if I remember shows the guideline on the screen. Make sure you connect to the correct outlet in rear of receiver head. Hope this helps.

Q
Will this be a plug and play for my 2015 Jeep jk with a factory 430N radio? Will I need any other parts or programing for it to work? Thank you, Eddie
[ Eddie  Mar 24, 2020 ]
1 answer
A
That will not work with the factory radio display. That camera only works with an aftermarket touchscreen radio.

Q
My jeep has no screen on the dash. Will this only work for ones with screens??
[ Jared  Jan 08, 2020 ]
3 answers
A
This only works with stereos that have a camera input on them. And yes, you have to have a video screen in order to view the camera.
[ Jeffrey  Jan 08, 2020 ]
A
This will not work on a factory radio that does not have a screen as there will be no way to display the image. It can work with an aftermarket radio with a screen and a rear camera input, or a aftermarket rear view mirror that has back up camera capabilities. Keep in mind, if you have an auto dim mirror you would lose that feature unless the new mirror has video and auto dim features.
[ Tim  Jan 08, 2020 ]
A
Well, you have to view the image on something. So if you don't have a screen, it doesn't make much sense to install a back up camera.
[ Christopher  Jan 08, 2020 ]
Q
Can I know the material of the bracket, is it metal or plastic?
[ claude  Jun 26, 2019 ]
1 answer
A
It is plastic, just like the rest of the housing, but it snaps in well, and the camera is tucked in pretty well.
[ Mark  Jun 26, 2019 ]
Q
will this camera plug into pioneer avh-w4500nex or will I need an adapter?
[ mjburton28  Jun 04, 2019 ]
3 answers
A
It will plug in, standard wiring, ground and 12v reverse or wire to acc. Video RCA (yellow) plugs into pioneer Bcam input
[ Tim  Jun 04, 2019 ]
A
I did not need any adapters. As you would expect the camera is on the side of the Jeep, so the view is a little off when backing. I turned the lines off.
[ Michael  Jun 04, 2019 ]
A
It should. It has a regular rca connection ie: the yellow connector so as long as your head unit has a reverse camera hook up you should be fine. I used mine on a pioneer head unit as well

Q
My jeep has no screen built into the dash. I usually use my cell phone on a mount above my dash. Can this unit send a video signal to my android cell phone?
[ Brian  Aug 25, 2018 ]
2 answers
A
I have never had an android phone, I'm an apple guy. You may want to get in touch with someone at Crutchfield and ask them, they will be glad to help.
[ Joseph  Jun 09, 2021 ]
A
No
[ Frederick  Aug 29, 2018 ]
Q
Will this automatically come on the indash video screen when the jeep is put into reverse?
[ 2018ZL1  Dec 19, 2017 ]
2 answers
A
Yes, as long as it is hooked up to the receiver correctly.
[ Chris  Dec 20, 2017 ]
A
I am using an alpine head unit in my Jeep with this camera. Yes it comes on automatically when put into reverse and should be able to be hooked up the same way on the stock unit. It's a good clear camera, but being offset is a pain. I read previous bad reviews about it being offset, but I did not think it would bother me that bad. The other issue is that it will come a little loose from the license plate fixture that it plugs into when bumped, such as after a wash.
