A great and affordable rear view camera
Crutchfield customer from Hopkinton, MA on 11/19/2020
2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
So far, so good with this rear view camera. Since I frequently fill the entire cargo area of the Jeep up past the windows, and the Wrangler has horrible blind spots in the rear anyway, I felt I needed to install some sort of rear camera to help me back up safely. And since I keep a tire cover on my spare, I can't install the kind of camera that looks through the spokes of the spare. This Crux camera was basically the only option left that works for my situation, and it didn't hurt that it was so affordably priced. Installation was easy enough, consisting of splicing the power wire into my reverse light, and plugging the video feed right into the back of my aftermarket Alpine stereo. I used a Dremel tool to cut a small notch in my tail light housing so that the cable can go through without pinching against the body of the car. The video feed is nice and clear, and works well at night too. Now I feel much better about backing up in parking lots and on the trail!

Great Camera

Great camera. The quality is there. I will end up getting a different camera because I don't like the location of this one. I want one to be more in the center of the Jeep. You can't trust the guidelines on this one because it is offset on the rear of the vehicle. I did have to trim a little bit of plastic on the factory tag light to accept this new one.

Easy to install, but sometimes the picture is grainy. I can't figure out why? I checked the connections and the ground. It should work perfectly. I might've just received a bad unit. Some days the picture is great. Others it's not so much.
Pros: easy to install
Cons: grainy picture.

Just installed this to my 2014 Wrangler along with new Alpine. Connected the power to the reverse light wire, grounded, and worked whenever I put in Reverse. Absolutely perfect. Very easy and just plug and watch. Highly recommend.................instant appreciation for my older Jeep
Pros: *Very clear, can use the cones or not...... *looks factory installed...... *good deal for $50.......no need to spend the $$ on the other ones
Cons: *very small copper wires, careful when stripping off insulation *Camera view is from the license plate, so just need to keep that in mind when using.......

This camera was easy to install but it actually didn't snap in so easily as described. I have a 2018 Jeep Wrangler unlimited. I pushed it enough to where it seems like it won't fall off but, like I said, the left side (left side if you're facing the back of Jeep) snapped well but the right side wouldn't snap in. Overall this camera will be good for backing up to see how much distance you have behind you but is off center so can throw you off also. The quality of the picture is pretty good. Also, I have the Sony aftermarket stereo in my Jeep and you have to actually push the "rear view" camera for it to access the camera. Overall I got it to sterling depth when backing up and it works week for that.
Pros: Good picture, good for deterring depth
Cons: Off center, did not snap into place

Great option for an easy install
Crutchfield customer from Natick, MA on 7/19/2019
2016 Jeep Wrangler
I bought this camera after checking many options for an install that didn't allow a rear view camera to be mounted inside the center spare tire (the rim didn't have a generous enough opening for an unobstructed view) and I couldn't drill into my rear number without major problems. I was initially concerned about the off-center position of the camera in the license plate location. However, the camera has a nice and wide enough angle of view and the guidelines are, while not 100% correct, a more good enough orientation when you're backing in or out of tight spots. Image quality is more than decent on Pioneer aftermarket receiver. Install was very easy and I don't say this lightly. I highly recommend this camera for everybody who has similar install problems to overcome.
Pros: Easy install, fair price, good image quality
Cons: Off-center position if the camera (which I honestly believe is of no practical relevance)

A great option at the price
Crutchfield customer from Salt Lake Cty, UT on 6/23/2019
2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Camera gives a great picture and makes backing my JK super easy. Yes, it's off center, but if you ever mount gear, fuel, or other gear on your spare tire, this is a great solution. I use my mirrors to back into parking stalls; this is great to see tricycles or boulders anywhere behind my jeep. NOTE: With my automatic transmission, I didn't need to hook up the reverse wire from my Sony XAV-AX1000. I just tapped power from the left reverse light, and the Sony switches instantly to the camera (no lag even when the Sony is booting) whenever I shift into reverse. You might need to connect the reverse wire in cases where you want to look out the pack (towing?) when not in reverse. But let's face it, the off-center mount is not the right solution for hitching up a trailer.
Pros: Price is right; great picture; good field of view even though off center; easy install once you know how; easy connectivity in my Jeep and great interoperation at least with my head unit.
Cons: The install instructions could be a lot more specific, given this is basically going in a single kind of vehicle. BUT I found a great install video on YouTube (thanks Provo Beast). T-taps are cheap, but they should put a few in the package and tell you how to use them.

Inconspicuous little camera. The center real estate in spare tire on my 2017 Rubicon Recon was taken by the center brake light. Wide angle view projected on factory navigation unit 430N. I am very satisfied with my low investment to get this extra measure of safety. Major cost was for dealership to enable camera. Along with low cost full tech support at a local big box retailer paid for installation.

I know the instructions are pretty bad, but this is super easy to install. Just solder the red and black to the reverse light bulb positive and ground, run the video cable to radio and done. My Jeep finally has reverse camera. Took about an hour when soldering connections and doing the install the right way, simple.
Pros: Perfect fit and super clear camera
Cons: Terrible instructions

Worked fine for installation of a Kenwood stereo into a 2018 Wrangler JK. Instructions could be better, as they are a PDF file and you need either a tablet or color printer to have them on hand while installing to the radio harness. You really need to see the colors as you splice wires. Several wires were not identified in the instructions, and required Google-fu to figure out that you should just cap them off and not use.

I put this on a 2015 jeep wrangler. It is offset to the driver side which makes the two guidelines on usable for gauging side to side. However the guide does function nicely for distance ( green =2', yellow =1') the camera is nice and clear with no issues for me at night. It was very easy to install and the fixed angle and lens perspective are good. Overall im very happy and can now backup confident of whats in my blindspot.
Pros: Resolution Installation Distance indication
Cons: none

crux ranglerrear view camera
Ty from Virgin Islands on 1/17/2016
Great little camera. I wired it to my Kenwood Excelon reciever. Good picture. Not as easy to install as everyone says. it does come with 19' of wire which is a perfect length however my 2015 wrangler rubicon unlimited is longer than you think. Running that length is not fun. Make sure you run the wire through the license plate light hole not the tail light opening other wise you will have to pull it all the way back through from the radio.and snake it through again. That stunk. I have an over sized atlas bumper with tire carrier so you cant see the pasanger side of the jeep part of the road for at least 8 foot from the bumper. The driver side is' as clear as day though. which is awesome. You do have a passenger side mirror so who cares. At night it is a little dim with factory tail lights. I have Rigid 350 watt reverse spot lights so it wasn't a problem for me. all in all for the bucks you can you can't beat it. it would be really cool if they would come up with dual cameras for both sides. That would be kick butt.
Pros: poor sight of the passenger side of the jeep with any king of oversize tire carrier. Should offer a camera for both sides.
Cons: Great picture. Very inexpensive and fairly easy to wire especially if you already have a head unit that is set up for one.

Unsafe
CaryV from DFW Area, TX on 8/20/2015
2012 Jeep Wrangler
I strongly recommend not purchasing this camera kit, purpose-built for Jeep Wrangler 2007+. The location of the camera, in the license plate housing beneath the left-hand tail light, creates a blind spot on the right-hand rear of the vehicle. Also the camera projects lane grid lines that don't correspond to the edges of the vehicle. These issues combine to burden the driver with extra workload to interpret what the camera's picture means, degrading vehicle safety.
Pros: Camera transmits a nice picture with sharp grid lines; it would be good if mounted on vehicle centerline.
Cons: Because of where the camera is mounted, there is a critical blind spot behind the right-hand side of the vehicle. Lane-guiding grid lines don't align with the edges of the vehicle. These two problems result in inconvenient false positives (telling you you're going to hit something when you're not) and dangerous false negatives (telling you you're clear when you're not). At the end of the day, your Jeep is safer without this camera than with it.

Very seldom to you find something that fits right, plugs in to other components easily and is cost effective. It replaced my stock license plate light, hooked into the electrical system easily and then plugged into my Kenwood head with no problems. The picture is clear, really helps to see what is behind me (and you know you can't see anything out the back of a Wrangler). Great value!
Pros: Easy to install, works as promised, cost effective
Cons: None that I can find
