Picture good. Alignment is bad.

Crutchfield customer from Rochester, NY on 12/31/2018

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Only using it few days. Video picture seems clear. Night video was good. Big problem with the camera being out of alignment. I've had to bend the position of the camera by at least 3/8 of a inch to get the picture lined up in the video display. I'll will be checking into a replacement.

Pros: Picture us clear.

Cons: Camera alignment with housing is off.

Easy to hook up. Picture is clear and not distorted on my Kenwood receiver. Very happy with it. It is installed on a 2003 Ford F150 I put the camera frame behind the lic plate, camera is hardly noticeable. Plan to get one for our 2012 Toyota Matrix.

The bracket is simple it is one piece so if you need to adjust it you just bend it. With others with screws they may come loose and shift. The picture quality is fair to good I would not call it great but better than the BOYO that I exchanged it for.

I like the fact it installs behind the tag so only the camera shows. Apparently the red pig tail does nothing. Ignore it.

Nice Camera, poor instructions

Neil from Portland, ME on 4/21/2017

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Once installed this is a nice camera. Good picture quality even at night with reverse lights. The mounting bracket is good. Wiring it was the issue. The instructions are poor. I wired it as "always on" by splicing in the Black and red to the 12 volt cigarette lighter power in the rear of my car. I then spliced into the Brown yellow ( for Subaru maybe not yours) brake light wire and ran a wire (not included) to the front with the video cable and attached it to the reverse signal wire on my receiver. With this configuration the camera comes on when in reverse and can also be turned on manually while driving (your receiver must support this function). There is a red pigtail by the video plug that I did not use and nobody seems to know what it is for.

Great addition to the stereo. Wanted something to aid in coupling my trailer to my truck. Crystal clear display.

Pros: Outstanding video Crystal Clear Easily mounted above my tag with tag mounting screws.

Cons: Wish you could get rid of the guide lines.

as expected

John E from Clifton Park, NY on 3/1/2017

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Theoretically, this should be an easy setup, but the instructions that come in the box are printed on a piece of paper 2"x3". The only really clear bit of info is how to disable the guide lines (and disabling the reverse image which this camera does not have) It does not reverse the image, so make sure your receiver can do that. One call to Crutchfield and they had the instructions straightened out. Crutchfield suggested running the 12V and ground connections to the reverse lights and chassis respectively. I had already run the power to the accessory 12V line so the camera would be on anytime the truck is on. This allows you to use the camera without being in reverse. I had already run the reverse signal from the truck's computer to the receiver, but the camera has a small red pigtail you can use to tell the receiver you're backing up, assuming you run the camera's power off the backup lights.

Pros: Nice clear picture

Cons: Instructions were ambiguous at best. The camera does stick out from the license plate more than expected. We'll see if it holds up to regular loading/unloading of my work truck

Installation instructions are between none and non-existent. Crutchfield's installation instructions are no where to be found. Customer tech support was of little help.

Pros: None, so far.

Cons: No install instructions. Unhelpful tech support.

Crutchfield response on 2/21/2017
Once we saw this review, our Tech Support team reached out to David to issue an apology and help him further. We'll either help him get the camera working the way it should, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.

Functional, not exceptional

Brian from Lees Summit, MO on 1/24/2017

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

For the price, it's pretty good. It is a little flimsy, the camera mount has to be bent up/down left/right to get it square with the world. The image quality is not great, but it works. If I had to do it again, I would get one that has sonar. It is difficult to judge distance just using the lines alone. The lines that come with the camera are not adjustable, but parking lines came with my stereo that are adjustable, which is nice. I also mounted it behind my license plate so the only thing you can see is the camera.

Pros: cost effective, hardly noticeable.

Cons: image quality, directions are worthless unless you already know how to install one of these. Plan on calling Crutchfield for help.

Love having the backup Camera 2004 CRV ready for another 10 years

Alan from Oak Park, IL on 11/22/2016

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Compared to my wife's 2016 Subaru Forester's backup camera, I am favorably impressed. The screen is as or almost as bright and clear, area coverage seems about the same or better and paired with my Pioneer AVH-280BT radio (see my highly favorable review), I have a larger screen than my wife's Subaru. Online instructions are better than instructions in the box, but other than that small criticism instructions were clear and installation was a breeze except for removing my Honda CRV panels which was my fault for not being more aware of the location of panel clips. Overall installation was much easier that I had envisioned.

Pros: Bright picture Easy installation Crutchfield's backup If I had questions hooked up flawlessly to car and radio with video in almost invisible on car

Cons: included instructions, but online instructions from Crutchfield much better

Excellent camera for the price! Displays a clear image even at night. The cable could be a little longer for use on an extended cab pickup. I'm thinking about installing one on my daughters car.

Pros: Great picture even at night.

The CLP-12 is a great rear view camera, once you get past the installation instructions, they are very basic.." Attach red wire to 12v and black wire to ground ". I ended up calling Crutchfield support and they walked me through the process.. Overall highly satisfied with this purchase

Pros: The camera is on a license plate bracket that is thin enough to go in front of or behind the license plate ( I put it behind the plate for a cleaner look )

Cons: Installation instructions

Awesome Camera

Gerald from Washington on 12/11/2015

This is a great camera!! The night vision is super bright; almost feels like you're watching it in day light. Clear resolution and bonus guide lines with flashing red stop. I highly recommend this camera.

Pros: Quality, picture resolution, night vision, easy to install, guide lines.

Cons: Limited installation (license plate location only). In a 2008 Mustang, the viewing angle is basically road level. Would be perfect if the viewing angle would be higher. But thats not the fault of the camera; more so the location of the license plate on a Mustang. But still highly recommend this camera!!

Features

Rear-View Camera: The Crux CLP-12 rear-view camera can be installed on a variety of vehicles with an aftermarket in-dash multimedia or navigation receiver installed. Your aftermarket receiver must feature an integrated video monitor and a composite video camera input. Now you'll be able to view what's behind you on your in-dash receiver's video monitor when you put your vehicle in reverse.

Note: The Crux CLP-12 rear-view camera is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

CCD Image Sensor: The Crux CLP-12 rear-view camera features a CCD image sensor that offers 480 lines of resolution. It has 170° (horizontal) x 90° (vertical) viewing angle. The CCD image sensor has a low-light lux rating of 0.4.

Waterproof Housing: The Crux CLP-12 rear-view camera features a IP67 waterproof housing.

Park Assist Lines: The rear-view camera provides parking assist lines on the screen of your vehicle's in-dash aftermarket monitor. These parking lines are there to assist you when backing up into a parking space. There are two vertical lines which help you judge the left and right edges of the parking space and your vehicle. There are also 3 color-coded horizontal lines that are used to distinguish how close you are getting to the end of the parking spot - Green (Clear), Yellow (Getting Close), Red (Very Close).

Note: You can remove the Park Assist Lines by connecting the camera's two white wires together.

Integrated License-Plate Bracket: The Crux CLP-12 rear-view camera features an integrated bracket which allows it to attach to your vehicle's license-plate's bracket assembly.

Power & Signal Connections: The rear-view camera features an attached 23.75' composite video cable and 7' power/ground wires. The composite video cable plugs into your in-dash aftermarket multimedia or navigation receiver's composite video camera input. The power/ground wires will need to hardwired to power and ground of your vehicle.
