About the Crux CS-TJ20 Wiring Interface

Keep those factory options

Crux's CS-TJ20 interface ensures that you can keep the factory steering wheel controls and the factory JBL amplifier in your Scion, Toyota, or Lexus when you install an aftermarket radio. Another plus — your Toyota's auxiliary input will still work with your new car stereo. Connect this interface to the wires on your new stereo's wiring harness, and you've covered the power, ground, and factory speaker connections for your new stereo. This adapter has RCA jacks to connect to your car stereo's rear aux input; you'll need an RCA-to-miniplug adapter if your stereo has a minijack.

There were no instructions as to where the mini-plug was supposed to plug into. I had to call the helpline at Crutchfield. I spoke with Jay (Jason) and he was amazingly helpful. He answered all of my questions.

Pros: Does what is claims - Keeps steering wheel functions.

Cons: The documentation was not good enough for the newbie installer.

However, I was told I could continue with navigation since I have a vehicle that has it now. The radio is a DVD and navigation unit, but the Crux would not give me that benefit or at least mirror my phone. If I had known that, I would not have purchased it. It only took about 4 or 5 phones calls with tech support to find that out. Along with several frustrating hours.

Pros: It works as it was described

Ordered the plug and play harness with this item and this isn't completely wired into the harness. You still have to cut and solder to the SWC wires and the instructions are not the best. Not sure why this isn't just made with a pin that plugs into the exsisting wires.

Made the OEM navigation screen turn on and off every second or so, steering wheel controls were lagging and not always registering, every time the car was started the OEM screen would get stuck on the splash screen, every once in a while the sound from the headunit would be completely gone, necessitating reinstalling OEM headunit, turning it on, then reinstalling the new headunit.

It was so easy to plug in and set the dip switches. It worked perfectly and continues to do so!

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: One set of dip switches wasn't correctly noted in the picture. Picture shows four, but unit only has three. Figured it out easily enough though.

Works Great.... Only thing is that it does not support Fader function.. You cannot adjust the volume for the front and rear speakers on the JBL Synthesis system on the 4runner. I don't think this unit does any of the RS232 interpretation to control the processing module on the car.

Pros: Works great, but doesn't support the fade function on the Limited Edition Toyota 4Runner with JBL Synthesis sound system.

Product Research

Features

Radio Replacement Interface: The CRUX CS-TJ20 is a radio replacement interface for select Toyota and Lexus vehicles with factory JBL audio systems. It facilitates the integration of an aftermarket radio and enables retention of factory features when replacing a factory installed radio in select Toyota and Lexus vehicles featuring factory JBL audio systems. The CRUX CS-TJ20 is also pre-programmed for retention of factory steering wheel controls.

Vehicle Compatibility: The CRUX CS-TJ20 radio replacement interface works with the following 2003-2017 Toyota and Lexus vehicles featuring factory JBL audio systems.

Make Model Year
Toyota 4 Runner 2003-2017
Avalon 2005-2017
Camry 2007-2017
Camry Solara 2004-2008
Corolla 2009-2017
FJ Cruiser 2007-2014
Highlander 2008-2017
Matrix 2005-2012
Prius 2004-2017
Rav4 2004-2017
Sequoia 2005-2017
Sienna 2004-2016
Tacoma 2005-2017
Tundra 2004-2017
Venza 2009-2015
Yaris 2008-2011
Lexus ES300 2004-2006
IS300 2003-2005
LS430 2006 (does not retain steering wheel controls)
Note: The CRUX CS-TJ20 comes with two types of wiring harnesses (TY-A and TY-B). The TY-A harness is used for newer model vehicles only, while the TY-B harness is for older model vehicles only. You will only use one; not both.

Retains Factory Amplifier: The CRUX CS-TJ20 will retain your vehicle's factory JBL Harman-Becker Digital-Synthesis Amplifier, including JBL (Pioneer-made) amplifiers. Use the three gain adjustment dip-switches to level match your aftermarket head unit's output with the factory amplifier's input. Balance (left/right) control is supported. However, fading (front/rear) control is not supported and lost when replacing the factory radio with an aftermarket head unit.

Retains Steering Wheel Controls: The CS-TJ20 will retain your vehicle's factory steering wheel controls. Two steering wheel control harnesses are included, but only one will be used based on your brand of aftermarket head unit (see Installation Instructions). You will also need to configure the CS-TJ20's three dip-switches based on your brand of aftermarket head unit (see Installation Instructions). Retained steering wheel control functions will vary by brand of aftermarket head unit (some functions require short or long button press).

  • Power/On Off
  • Source
  • Volume Up/Down
  • Mute
  • Track/Seek Up, Track/Seek Down (including Presets)
  • Pick Up/End Call
  • Voice Control (requires aftermarket head unit with Siri or Android control)
Note: The CS-TJ20 is compatible with Alpine, Clarion, Dual/Axxera, JVC, Kenwood, Jensen, Pioneer, and Sony aftermarket head units with steering wheel control wire or input.

Retains Factory Aux Input: The CS-TJ20 lets you retain your vehicle's factory Auxiliary Input through the use of your aftermarket head unit's rear-panel Aux input. The CS-TJ20 is outfitted with stereo RCA jacks, so if your aftermarket head unit features a 3.5mm jack, you will need a RCA-to-Minijack adapter (sold separately).

Retains Factory Backup Camera: The included TY-A harness features a composite video jack and a 12V-to-6V voltage converter to retain your vehicle's factory backup camera (if equipped). Your aftermarket head unit will need a composite video camera input to retain your vehicle's camera backup camera.

Note: The included TY-B harness does not retain the factory backup camera.

Navigation Outputs: The included TY-A harness provides a Parking Brake, VSS (vehicle speed sense), and a Reverse Gear output to make installing an aftermarket navigation head unit simpler and less time consuming.
