Overview

Our take on the Crux SWRHN-62B Wiring Interface

You'll only be able to retain your steering wheel audio controls with a compatible car stereo made by Alpine, Blaupunkt, Clarion, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, or Sony. No other brands are currently compatible.

Add a new radio

Installing a new car stereo can often mean losing your vehicle's steering wheel audio controls. Crux's wiring interface solves this problem, allowing you to install a new receiver while retaining the use of those controls. The interface retains the factory auxiliary input, but you'll need a rear aux input on your new radio. The package also includes an adapter for the powered antenna. The interface does not support amplified systems, and it doesn't retain factory navigation or your rear seat entertainment system.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This little gizmo fully enabled the steering wheel controls in our 2009 Honda Odyssey for peanuts! Honda had pretty tight limits on functionality between models, requiring users to upgrade the whole vehicle just to get one or two minor upgrades. This little black box gave us the ability to actually tune the radio with the steering wheel instead of just jumping between the radio preset buttons. It is really a nice feature on trips and maintained the steering wheel controls to keep the resale value up if we ever decide to sell it. Great little box of electronic voodoo. I highly recommend it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product works well and was easy to set up, however I did have trouble getting the steering wheel controls to work because the set up sheet from crux gave me the wrong info for the dip switches. I was able to get them to work after calling Crutchfield but the tech had different info than what was on my sheet. Once the correct dip switch was chosen it worked well.

Pros: Does the job of keeping your factory steering wheel controls. Much cheaper than local shops.

Cons: Was given the wrong info for my stereo. Double check with Crutchfield tech on dip switch position.

It's a little difficult for me to actually review this product -- I didn't personally install my new CD/radio/etc player. But the guy at the shop said it was exactly what he needed -- and the player is working fine with no trouble using steering wheel controls. So I can only assume the product is good.

Cons: None

Nice kit that keeps your factory controls. And was easy to install.

Pros: Easy to install

Works as Advertised

Chris from Pittsburgh, PA on 6/12/2017

2011 Honda CRV EX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This wiring harness was recommended by Crutchfield for my Honda CRV because it was better for preserving steering wheel control functionality. The wiring process was tedious, as usual, but I got it right the first time, so I can't complain. Be sure to buy those recommended wire cap things because they better ensure that the wires will stay together.

Pros: Preserved steering wheel control functionality

Cons: None.

Worked perfectly in a 2010 Honda CRV

Geoff from Longmont, CO on 1/22/2017

2010 Honda CRV EX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The harnesses fit perfectly in my son's 2010 Honda CRV, and everything worked exactly as expected, with one exception. The harness instructions mention that existing steering wheel controls would obtain dual functionality with the new harness - a short press for one function and a lot press for another. If also eluded to the ability to program these controls. I found neither of these options to be true. The steering wheel controls worked exactly as they previously did, but no additional capabilities. Not a big deal, as we didn't need extra capabilities, but it would have been nice since they were advertised as such.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to install, installed and working in about 30 mins. My kit didnt match the exact texture of the other dash piece it is next to,but u cant really tell unless u really look at it close. Besides id rather it be off a little bit than not to have full control over my music and the capabilities of what i am listening to. I have done other dash kit installs for friends and have yet to see a company match the other dash colors and or textures.

Pros: Easy to install, detailed instructions, perfect fit

Cons: Non that i could see, given that no company will ever match the exact color and texture of other factory dash panels

Easy install and the steering wheel buttons still work with my new radio. My only complaint is that now the steering wheel button that previously used to scroll through my preset radio stations, now functions as a seek button instead. Not sure if this is a limitation of the harness or my new radio.

Sam from New Jersey on 6/6/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Many thanks to the people who put this harness together. many years ago I used to compete in IASCA and wiring up complex systems would take days. This harness made putting in my new Pioneer head unit ridiculously easy! I made 2 calls to Support to verify things before making connections and 2 other calls because I wasn't sure of some connections (my color blindness gets in the way) and each person was polite, professional, insightful and non-judgmental. Thank you Crutchfield

Pros: Wires are pre-stripped. Color coded with pretty easy directions

Cons: A couple of the colors are not exact matches to the head unit and there was a wire labeled for something not used and it really was the connection for the antenna booster.

Got a Pioneer AVIC-7100NEX with this wiring interface for my 2010 honda civic. Steering wheel control works perfectly too

Pros: Steering wheeling controls function. Harness fits perfectly, color by color

Cons: pioneer stereo has a purple/white wire for the reverse backup camera, the harness didn't have a color that matched the wire. Instructions provided were pretty vague. But with the help of common sense and online videos, installation was a success

Still doesn't work. I have only contacted support once while the radio was being installed. I have not had tote chance to remove the unit from the dash for trouble shooting. Crux needs better instructions not just a one page sheet with wire identification. Perhaps they should describe what wire/plug goes where...

Pros: Wires for radio install great

Cons: Vague directions

Honda Radio Replacement Interface: The CRUX SWRHN-62B is a radio replacement interface for select 2006-2011 Honda vehicles. It facilitates the integration of an aftermarket radio to enable retention of factory features when replacing a factory installed radio in select Honda vehicles. This interface is also pre-programmed for retention of steering wheel controls.

Note: This Honda radio replacement interface does not support factory amplified systems, RSE (Rear Seat Entertainment), or Factory Navigation.

Compatibility: The CRUX SWRHN-62B is supported by the following 2006-2011 Honda vehicles; with non-amplified and non-navigation factory systems only.

Make Model  Year
Honda Civic/Si 2006-2011
CRV 2007-2011
Insight 2010-2013
Odyssey 2008-2010
Note: Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible and what additional installation accessories will be needed.

Steering Wheel Control Retention: The CRUX SWRHN-62B also features a steering wheel control output for Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood, JVC, and Blaupunkt aftermarket head units. The steering wheel control output consists of a right-angle 3.5mm connector and a light blue/yellow wire (use the connection that your aftermarket head unit is fitted with). The SWRHN-62B interface module will work with any of the listed aftermarket head units, by setting its three dip-switches (see owner's manual for appropriate setting).

Note: There are two steering wheel control harnesses labeled "Pioneer/Sony" and "Alpine/Clarion/Kenwood/JVC"). You will only plug in one of these harnesses into the interface module, based on the type aftermarket head unit you are installing.

Factory Aux Input Retention: The SWRHN-62NB allows you to keep your vehicle's factory Aux input thanks to the stereo RCA jacks found on the included harness. These RCA jacks plug into the rear aux input of your aftermarket stereo. Your aftermarket stereo must be equipped with a rear aux input in order to retain your vehicle's factory Aux input.

Wiring Harness: The SWRHN-62B includes a wiring harness with two molex connectors (17-/20-Pin) that plug into your vehicle's factory radio harness. the SWRHN-62B interface module. The wiring harness also provides bare-wire leads (power/ground, speaker, illumination, antenna, turn-on, and vss) which will need to be hardwired to your aftermarket head unit's wiring harness. In addition, there is an antenna adapter to allow your aftermarket head unit to connect with the vehicle's factory AM/FM antenna.
