About the Crux RVCVW-73 Backup Camera System
The backup cam just for you
The backup cam just for you
Designed specifically for select 2010-13 Volkswagen vehicles with a RNS-315 navigation radio, this rear-view camera system allows you to integrate backup video into your factory radio. The package includes the VW-73 rear-view camera, an interface and harness that connect to the factory radio, and a cable that you'll route from the camera to the front of your car.
Once installed, you'll see a generous, well-lit picture of what's behind you, with a 170-degree wide view and video capture down to 0.2 Lux for night driving. Crux also gives you the option to enable onscreen parking assist lines so you can gauge distance more easily.
Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.
What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)
What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.
How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.
Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.
Note: A rear-view camera provides an additional view when reversing your vehicle. It is intended to be used in conjuction with your rear- and side-view mirrors to give a fuller picture of what's behind you. It is not intended as a replacement for your mirrors.

More details on the Crux RVCVW-73 Backup Camera System
Sightline Series Rear-View Camera System: The Sightline series RVCVW-73 rear-view camera system by Crux has been specifically designed for select Volkswagen vehicles that are equipped with a factory navigation radio. Now you can use your vehicle's factory radio to see what's behind you when backing up. The RVCVW-73 comes with an interface module and the necessary harnesses and cables to connect the rear-view camera to your VW vehicle's factory system.
Note: The RVCVW-73 rear-view camera is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.
Vehicle Compatibility: The Sightline series RVCVW-73 rear-view camera system is compatible with the following 2011-2014 Volkswagen vehicles that feature a factory RNS-315 navigation radio (as of 8/14/14).
|Passat (key start only)||2012-2014|
Automatic Rear-View Switching: In order for the vehicle's system to recognize the installed rear-view interface module and backup camera and engage them when the vehicle is in reverse, your vehicle's system must be coded using the supplied OBD-73 module. The OBD-73 module can be removed once coding processing is done. Now the factory radio's monitor will automatically switch over to the rear-view camera so you can see what's behind you immediately.
Park Assist Lines: The rear-view camera provides parking assist lines on the screen of your vehicle's in-dash factory radio. These parking lines are there to assist you when backing up into a parking space. There are two vertical lines which help you judge the left and right edges of the parking space and your vehicle. There are also 3 color-coded horizontal lines that are used to distinguish how close you are getting to the end of the parking spot - Yellow (Clear), Purple (Getting Close), Red (Very Close).
Integrated Mounting Collar: You will need to drill a 18.5mm (5/8") hole in your vehicle's rear exterior panel using the supplied hole saw drill-bit (drill not included). The rear-view camera mounts in this opening and features a threaded mounting collar which holds the camera in place. There is also a self-adhesive double-side weather strip which mounts between the vehicle and the camera to protect against any water leaks.
Power/Ground & Signal Connections: The rear-view camera features an attached 6' power/signal cable and a 21.5' extension cable that plug into each other. The extension cable then plugs into the included 20" power/signal cable via a composite video and DC connection. The power/signal cable will then plug and hardwire into the included 24" vehicle harness via composite video and power/ground wire leads. The vehicle harness plugs into the included interface module and your factory radio's 26-pin connector.
