The Project AD Box S-2 is a real delight, especially as set up. I replaced the cables supplied with my carbon debut turntable with a set of Audio quest Mackenzie cables in 1meter length. The combination sounds great.
Pros: Adjustable gain.

I decided to set up my turntable that had been stored for about 20 years and discovered I needed to add a phono preamp as my 3 year old A/V receiver did not have a phono input. After researching many of the preamps, I decided on the Pro-Ject AD Box S2. Easy install and the added feature of connecting the turntable to my computer using a mini B USB cable that connects from the rear of the preamp to the computer was a plus. Not as intrusive as a cable that connects to the front of other preamps. Operation is great. Works perfectly between turntable and A/V receiver. Can use virtually any inputs on the receiver [cd, DVD, etc.] for smooth operation.
Pros: Small size, easy installation, can use virtually any inputs on receiver. Non-intrusive USB cable input
Cons: Haven't found any
