About the Pro-Ject X1
A high-quality turntable...
A high-quality turntable...
In my experience, any Pro-Ject turntable will offer solid build quality and attention to detail. The Pro-Ject X1 follows that trend, with a heavy 12" acrylic platter that reduces resonance and noise, a carbon fiber/aluminum tonearm for superior rigidity, and a rugged MDF base with four adjustable aluminum feet. The motor is decoupled from the chassis for reduced vibration transmission, and a stainless steel bearing with soft brass bushing and teflon mirrors keeps the platter's rotation smooth and quiet.
...with an upgraded cartridge
The cherry on top of the proverbial sundae is a factory-mounted Sumiko Rainier moving magnet cartridge. The Rainier features an integrated body style and an elliptical diamond stylus that tracks a record groove with precision. Solid frequency response in the 15-25,000 Hz range ensures that you can hear every note in your favorite recordings.

More details on the Pro-Ject X1
Rainier MM Cartridge: The Pro-Ject X1 turntable comes with a Sumiko Oyster Series Rainier MM cartridge for smooth, natural sound reproduction. The Rainier provides the best qualities that moving magnet cartridges have to offer; low noise, wide dynamics and exceptional trackability. Its elliptical stylus and sophisticated generator allows the MM cartridge to retrieve more information from your recordings while reducing wear on the groove walls. The Rainier's frequency response (15-25kHz) is smooth and extended with exceptional channel separation across the frequency spectrum.
3-Speed Control: The Project X1 turntable houses a sophisticated DC/AC generator board combined with a convenient speed control board to deliver clean and stable power to the quiet-running motor. For even further improved performance, the motor is decoupled from the main plinth using a new motor suspension system. The turntable supports 33-1/3, 45, and 78 RPM speeds (two belts are provided; see Instructions for which belt to use for what speed). 78 RPM records require an additional cartridge that is not included and sold separately (see Accessories Tab).
Carbon/Aluminum Sandwich Construction Tonearm: The Pro-Ject X1 employs a super-stiff, perfectly tempered Carbon/Aluminum sandwich construction tonearm. This new 8.6" tonearm design is incredibly light and stiff, with improved resistance to external interference. Finished as a one-piece, with no resonance-inducing headshell, the X1 can also be set for azimuth and VTA adjustment. The tonearm is then supplied with a TPE-damped counterweight, further reducing cartridge-tonearm resonances.
Non-Resonant Acryl Platter: In the X1, the motor drives a new, heavy, non-resonant Acryl platter via a sub-platter drive system and a premium grade main bearing for liquid smooth rotation. This is the perfect platform on which to place your precious vinyl records, guaranteeing absolute reliability in its performance and sonic character. The Acryl platter measures 20mm thick and weighs 3.3 lbs.
MDF Plinth with Adjustable Feet: The Pro-Ject X1 turntable utilizes a heavy, anti-resonant MDF plinth to improve sound quality. The plinth is available in 3 finishes - a premium walnut wood veneer and a luxurious black or white eight-layer gloss paint. Height-adjustable, Aluminum/TPE sandwich construction feet help to level the turntable and effectively isolate it from the surface it is placed on.
Stereo RCA Outputs: Plinth mounted RCA output jacks allow for connection to the Phono Input of your receiver, integrated amplifier, or preamplifier. If your receiver does not have a suitable Phono MM input, a separate Phono Preamplifier (sold separately - see Accessories Tab) is required to connect the turntable to your receiver or amp.
Connect-IT E RCA Cable: The X1 turntable comes with Pro-Ject's Connect-IT E RCA cable; a semi-balanced, low-capacitance cable with superior shielding that's optimized for turntable use. Compared to other digital and analog music sources, the signal coming from a turntable cartridge is very fragile in nature and cheap RCA cables often do not provide the ideal conditions for getting a phono signal to an amplifier. The Connect-IT E cable is purpose-designed for this exact application.
AC Power Adapter: The Pro-Ject X1 includes an external AC power adapter (with 6' cord) that plugs into the back of the turntable and into an AC wall outlet or surge protector (sold separately - see Accessories Tab).
Dust Cover: The Pro-Ject X1 comes supplied with a dust cover to prevent dust build-up on the turntable.
