Pro-Ject X2

Slippery Slope I must admit I was not pleased with the sound and performance of the Pro-Ject X2. I thought perhaps I should purchase a more expensive turntable like the VPI or Feickert. They seem to always get great reviews for their sound and performance quality. Instead of listening to the many albums I painstakingly purchased I went back to enjoying my CD collection. I was slipping fast down the proverbial slope of believing digital sound far better than analog. Then, I thought this is crazy, they're just two different sound qualities and I am not going down into the abyss. So, I started searching for a better turntable. Hey, in this business you get to choose your slopes. During my search an audiophile essentially said, if you have a $300 cartridge you have a $300 sound coming from your turntable. I was like, ooh the cartridge. Maybe this was the cause of my dissatisfaction. long story short, I purchased a new phono cartridge and let me tell you it has made all the difference. The cartridge upgrade allowed for the full potential of my new Pro-Ject X2 to be experienced. The plith, motor, and tonearm technology not only makes the difference it is the difference that makes for an incredible exploration of music.

Great turntable!

My first turntable in about 35 years. Looks great, sold, quiet, and with a great Sumiko MM cartridge. I especially like the speed control, so as not to need to adjust belt for 45 RPM. Extremely well packaged - triple boxed - 2 Pro-Ject and 1 Crutchfield.

Cons: None

Very balanced sound

Replaced a Kenwood KD 5070 with a Shure M97 cartridge. I always liked the sound of the combo. The X2 sounds an order of magnitude better. Deep, rich bass that is not boomy or overpowering. Highs that are crisp and clear without being strident or sibilant. Mids that sound natural and that tie the whole thing together. Set up was straight forward and simple. The directions were not always super clear, but were mostly adequate. The walnut finish is very nice, and the overall aesthetic was elegant and classy.
Pros: Excellent sound. Attractive turntable. Good cartridge. Can switch speeds without having to mess with the belt.
Cons: None.

I too purchased the Project XL instead of thee Rega 3 due to Crutchfield support. Glad I did. The first delivery was returned for an anti skating issue. The tech listened to my concerns and (Dallas) immediately shipped out a replacement arriving in 2 days. This time the tone arm balancing and the anti-skate assembly went perfect. Sounds amazing compared to my previous TT, a start up Audio-Technica AT-LP120BK with an Ortofon blue. Only 4 stars because of the bad anti-skate assembly on initial purchase. Crutchfield gets 5*'s
Pros: Easy set up looks greatBut most importantly sounds amazing
Cons: Expensive?

Wow! Really made a difference. I was replacing an intro turntable Denton 300. I was debating whether spending the money would make a significant sound difference. It was amazing. From the first spin, it sounded amazing. Really no regrets at all. It was between the Pro-ject X2 and the Rega 3. I decided to go with the Pro-ject simply because of the Crutchfield customer service. That was the deciding factor, but it looks and sounds beautiful. Loving the turntable
Pros: Sound Quality Looks beautiful
Cons: None really, sorta expensive
