Lucid Hearing's Engage hearing aids provide a natural-sounding hearing boost, no matter the environment. They're designed to help folks who have mild-to-moderate hearing loss. The best part is that you don't need a doctor's visit or audiogram, thanks to a self-administered hearing assessment that's based on Lucid's copious, peer-reviewed research.

Natural, non-processed sound

Lucid had a clear goal in mind for the Engages: they wanted the hearing aids to have transparent, natural sound without compression or harsh distortion. The company's advanced, FDA-registered hearing aid technology ensures you hear sounds at the highest resolution possible. That means speech comes through crystal-clear, and you hear the person's natural voice rather than a processed-sounding version of it.

Four unique hearing presets

Lucid partnered with the University of Texas at Dallas, which has one of the top audiology programs in the country, to evaluate nearly 100,000 audiograms. They took their findings and grouped them together in four different hearing loss categories. Those categories were then turned into four unique hearing presets for the company's Engage hearing aids. Those presets make it easy to find the right solution for your ears, since they're based on the most common forms of hearing loss.

For example, the "mild" preset is what you'd choose if you have trouble discerning speech. There's also a stronger "moderate" preset if you need further help understanding speech. You'll want to pick the "bass boost" preset if you have trouble hearing low frequency sounds like vowels in words. The "max" preset is the "bass boost" preset, plus a boost in overall volume for even more help.

How's your hearing?

If you're curious whether your ears need some assistance but don't want to schedule an appointment with your doctor, Lucid offers access to their personalized hearing assessment on their website. The assessment uses proprietary technology that Lucid says, "...has been widely validated, with results that have been published in multiple scientific peer-reviewed journals". You can take the test using your computer, tablet, or smartphone. After completing the assessment, you'll be emailed your results along with which preset on the hearing aids will suit you best.

App control for a personalized experience

Things get more personalized in the Lucid Hearing app, which lets you make quick and easy sound adjustments right from your smartphone. You can adjust volume, customize the 4-band EQ, select sound profiles, and even set how much ambient noise comes through while you're listening to music. The app also provides battery level indicators for each hearing aid, as well as their connection status.

Take them anywhere

Lucid understood that hearing aids need to be rugged and durable, yet visually discreet. The Engage hearing aids are made in the USA using durable materials that hold up to everyday life, including a splashproof nano-coating.

All day hearing enhancement

Thankfully, the Engage hearing aids have a rechargeable battery. You'll get up to 20 hours of battery before they need to be recharged. The case holds enough juice to charge the hearing aids three times before needing to be recharged itself. The hearing aids reach a full charge in just two hours, while charging the case takes about four hours.

Features

Overview: The Engage™ Hearing Aid, powered by Lucid, features proprietary technology to help you hear clearer. You can use Engage without requiring a doctor's appointment or audiogram. The hearing aids feature Bluetooth streaming, a companion smartphone app, and rechargeable batteries. They charge in the included charging case, and come with nine pairs of silicone ear tips for best fit. The Engage Hearing Aids not only help you hear better, but can be used for streaming music or making phone calls. Engage is available in three colors, and models that work with Android or iPhone.

Note: This Engage Hearing Aid works exclusively with Apple iPhone 6 and newer. For Android-compatible models, click here.

Powered by Lucid: The patented Powered by Lucid technology helps you hear better by enhancing the frequencies where human speech are found. Engage hearing aids deliver a more natural sound because it doesn't use compression like typical hearing aids do. With Powered by Lucid technology, you can hear the sounds that are most important to you.

Programs: The Engage Hearing Aids offer four preset programs, based on years of auditory research in conjuction with the University of Texas at Dallas. These four presets cover most of the population with mild-to-moderate hearing loss. The programs can be selected on each hearing aid by pressing and holding the rocker switch, or in the Lucid Hearing app:

  • Mild: Covers most common hearing loss cases; makes speech more intelligible
  • Moderate: Provides more assistance than the Mild setting
  • Bass Boost: Provides a moderate boost in lower frequencies
  • Max: Provides maximum boost in bass frequencies

Fit: The Engage Hearing Aids are designed to be worn discreetly behind the ear with the attached tube and ear tip entering the ear canal. The tube should be long enough for the tip to fit into the upper portion of the ear canal. A Engage Tube Fit Guide is included to determine what size tube the user requires. The hearing aids come with a Size 2 tube; other sizes are available from the manufacturer. The attached Concha Lock helps to keep the tube in place by tucking behind the folds in your outer ear.

Note: Professional audiologists recommend an acclimation period of approximately thirty days of use to become comfortable with your new hearing aids.

Ear Tip Assortment: The hearing aids come with multiple sizes of closed-back and vented ear tips. The 5 pairs of closed-back ear tips are solid and create a seal inside the ear canal. They are effective in shutting out ambient noise. The vented ear tips are open-back that allow your voice and some ambient noise to pass. The closed tips are best for streaming audio from your Apple iPhone. There are five sizes of closed-back ear tips and four sizes of vented ear tips.

Wax Guards: Under the silicone ear tip is a wax guard with a dual purpose. The wax guard blocks earwax from entering the driver housing, and it ensures that your hearing aids produce a consistent sound. Engage Hearing Aids come with 10 replacement wax guards with an integrated tool for removing the old wax guard and installing the new one.

Nano-Coating: The hearing aids feature nano-coating technology that protects the device from sweat and moisture. The coating provides protection against dripping water from all angles, and against objects 12.5mm in diameter or greater. This equals an IP22 (Ingress Protection) rating.

Rechargeable Batteries: The Engage Hearing Aids are equipped with 3.8-volt, 17.5mAh Lithium-ion rechargeable button cell batteries. The included charging case has 5-volt, 820mAH Lithium-Ion Polymer battery. The hearing aids charge in the case in approximately 2 hours. A fully-charged battery provides up to 20 hours of battery life. The charging case battery charges in approximately 4 hours via USB, and provides enough stored power to charge the hearing aids up to three times.

Lucid Hearing App: The Lucid Hearing app gives you full control of your Engage Hearing Aids. The app lets you adjust or mute the volume of each hearing aid independently or together. You can select from four preset programs based on the listening environment: Lucid (default), Noisy, Music, and Wind Noise. The Audio EQ lets you adjust the sound of the hearing aids in the treble, midrange, and bass bands, and adjust the amount of ambient sound you want to let in. The app also gives you a visual indication of the charging status of the rechargeable battery. The Lucid Hearing app is compatible with Apple iPhones with iOS 12.4 or later.

Customer Q&A

2 questions already asked

Q
Do the two hearing aides function independently? In other words may one be used and not the other similar to an AirPods?
william  Oct 19, 2022
1 answer
A
I do not see why not, William. The Lucid Hearing app gives you full control of your Engage Hearing Aids. The app lets you adjust or mute the volume of each hearing aid independently or together, since they allow this control I see no reason why you could not use one independent of the other. I hope this helps!

Q
Do you accept peoples health insurance?

A
Greetings Fred, and thank you for your question. Crutchfield is not a medical provider. You may want to check with your insurance company, and ask if they have a reimbursement policy. That way you could still buy from us, and then be reimbursed by your insurance company.
