About the JVC TH-V70
Innovative design and superior performance come together in JVC's TH-V70 DVD home theater system! Chances are, you've never seen a component unit like this before. With the TH-V70, you can place the unit flat on a shelf or tabletop and load your discs horizontally, stand it upright with the help of the included stand and load your discs vertically, or mount it on the wall using the keyhole slots for a sleek, elegant look. But no matter how you choose to display the stylish console, the whole system works together to deliver convincing home theater surround sound, plus a filmlike, progressive-scan picture.
The TH-V70 includes Dolby Digital® and DTS® decoding for DVDs, and Pro Logic II, which re-creates the realism of 5.1-channel sound from conventional 2-channel sources. The amp is housed in the subwoofer unit, delivering 30 watts x 5 to the satellite speakers, and 140 watts for the sub, adding serious low-frequency rumble to movie soundtracks.
JVC provides a full array of rear-panel video outputs, including component video. And with progressive scan capability, you'll enjoy a major improvement in picture quality (if your TV has progressive-compatible component video inputs). The TH-V70 plays DVDs, audio CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and MP3 discs, and includes an AM/FM tuner with 30 FM/15 AM presets.

More details on the JVC TH-V70
Vertical or Horizontal Placement: The TH-V70 has a slot-loaded DVD player which allows the unit to be placed horizontally or vertically on a desktop or shelf, or it can be mounted vertically on a wall using the keyhole slots on the bottom of the unit.
"Flippable" Display: The direction of the characters and symbols on the display can be changed depending on whether the unit is placed vertically or horizontally. There is a Display Set switch on the rear of the unit allowing you to choose which direction the display is shown. The assignment of the functions each control button is also inverted when the display direction is changed. The remote control sensor is located on the front display panel when the switch is in the Horizontal position, and on the front cover (in the center of the logo design) when the switch is in the Vertical position.
Wall Mounting: The main unit can be mounted on a wall using the three keyhole slots on the bottom of the unit. A template is provided to more easily mark the mounting screw locations. Since the unit weighs approximately 6-1/2 pounds, it is not recommended that it be mounted to a plasterboard or plywood wall. Mounting the unit to a 3/8" to 5/8" thick board is recommended to reinforce the mounting surface.

In contrast to the 30 frames shown per second by the interlaced format, the progressive format displays 60 frames per second for more detailed images. You can select Video, Film or Auto in the menu to select the progressive mode according to the picture source.
Video Fine Processor (VFP): The Video Fine Processor allows you to adjust the picture character according to the type of programming, picture tone or personal preferences. In the VFP mode, you can select Normal, Cinema, User 1 or User 2. You can further adjust and save the two user settings as follows:

JPEG Disc Playback: The TH-V70 can play JPEG files, such as digital photographs, recorded on a CD-R or CD-RW disc in ISO 9660 Level 1 and 2 formats. You can view the still pictures one after another automatically in a slide-show fashion. During a JPEG slide show, you can perform the following functions:
- Zoom In/Out
- Skip files forward or backward
- Direct File Access (using number keys)
Dynamic Range Compression: This feature allows you to enjoy a powerful sound even at a low volume level by compressing the dynamic range. You can select MID (reduces the dynamic range a little), MAX (full compression), or OFF (no compression). Note: Dynamic Range Compression only works with Dolby Digital sources.
Selectable Crossover: Small speakers cannot reproduce bass frequencies efficiently. The TH-V70 automatically reallocates the bass frequencies assigned to the small speakers to the large speakers in the subwoofer based on the crossover frequency setting. You can set the crossover frequency at 200 Hz (recommended when using the supplied speakers), 150 Hz, 120 Hz, 100 Hz or 80 Hz.
Resume Playback: This feature allows you to resume playback from the position where a DVD, Video CD, or audio CD was stopped. The position is cleared when you open the disc tray, or press the stop button while the unit is not playing. This feature can be activated/deactivated in the menu.
Zoom Function: When playing a DVD, the unit zooms in to the center part of a scene to produce an image that is 2X or 4X the regular size. When playing a Video CD, the unit zooms in to produce a double-sized image. Using the cursor buttons on the remote, you can move the enlarged image.
Multi-Angle Function: This function allows you to choose the viewing angle of scenes that were shot from a number of different angles. Note: This function is limited to DVD movies recorded with multiple camera angles.
Repeat Play: The "A-B Repeat" function allows you to select any portion of a DVD, Video CD or audio CD and have it repeat until the unit is manually stopped. When playing a DVD, you can repeat the current title or the current chapter. When playing a Video CD or an audio CD, you can repeat the current track or the entire disc.

You can store up to 30 FM and 15 AM station presets so that you always have easy access to your favorite stations without having to tune them in manually each time. If you are listening to an FM station in stereo but the reception is weak, you can improve the sound quality by switching to Mono. When listening to an AM broadcast with a lot of noise interference, you can change the Beat Cut mode to reduce the noise. Note: FM tuning is done in 0.1MHz steps and AM tuning is done in 10kHz steps.
SP-THV70 Speaker System: The SP-THV70 speaker system features a powered subwoofer and five matching satellite speakers. The amplifier for the satellite speakers is located in the subwoofer cabinet. It provides 140 watts RMS for the subwoofer and 30 watts RMS per channel for the satellites. A multi-pin System Cord connects the Center Unit to the subwoofer. Three 16-1/2' lengths of 20-gauge speaker wire are provided for the front left, front right and center speakers. Two 33' lengths of 20-gauge speaker wire are provided for the rear left and rear right speakers.
Subwoofer: The subwoofer has a 7-7/8" front-firing woofer in a bass-reflex enclosure.
Satellites: Each satellite has an oval (2-13/16 x 1-5/8") full-range driver in an acoustic suspension enclosure. Each speaker is covered by a non-removable, light gray cloth grille. The center speaker has rubber feet on the bottom so it can be placed horizontally on a TV or shelf. The front and rear satellites have rubber feet on the bottom so they can be placed vertically on a shelf or stand. There are also threaded inserts on each satellite speaker to accommodate the two enclosed wall-mounting speaker brackets or optional brackets or stands.
Video-shielding: The subwoofer and satellites are video-shielded, allowing them to be placed near your television without causing picture distortion.
Multibrand Remote (RM-STHV70J): The TH-V70 comes with a remote that is pre-programmed to operate this system and a number of functions on other brands of TVs, VCRs, Cable Boxes, and DBS receivers.
