Revel Concerta B8 wireless compact powered subwoofer

The compact Concerta B8 sports an automotive-grade, high-gloss finish.

Add punch to movies and music

The B8 is equipped with an 8" down-firing woofer and a 200-watt RMS amplifier. Together they provide punchy bass that's ideal for small- to medium-sized rooms.

This sub is an ideal match with Revel's Concerta M8 on-wall speakers. This pairing delivers vibrant, engaging sound with a minimal footprint in your room.

How it works

This sub's "secret sauce" is how Revel transmits low-frequency effects. The included wireless transmitter plugs into the sub output on the back of your receiver (sometimes labeled LFE). Simply plug the transmitter and the sub into AC power, and you're ready to rock.

Features

8" Woofer/200W Amplifier: The Revel B8 wireless powered subwoofer is equipped with an 8" down-firing woofer in an acoustic suspension (sealed) enclosure powered by a built-in 200 watt (RMS) / 400 watt (Peak) amplifier that delivers powerful, dynamic, and accurate bass performance for your movie and music soundtracks.

Wireless Receiver & Transmitter: The Revel B8 features a built-in 2.4GHz wireless receiver and comes with a 2.4GHz wireless transmitter for wireless connectivity to your receiver, integrated amplifier, or preamplifier. The wireless transmitter feature a stereo RCA input that plug into the into the LFE or subwoofer output of your receiver, integrated amp, or preamp (if your receiver/amp/preamp has only one subwoofer or LFE output, you can use either the Left or Right jack of the stereo RCA input. The subwoofer receives it audio signal wirelessly from the transmitter via 2.4GHz RF signal (up to 30'). As a result, you can place the subwoofer almost anywhere in your room without having to run an audio cable from your receiver, amp, or preamp to the powered sub. Both, the subwoofer and transmitter, will require and AC power connection.

Note: There is a rear-panel Wireless Code switch (1-2-3-4) on the back of the subwoofer and transmitter that lets you select between four different channels for the best wireless subwoofer signal. Be sure to set the transmitter's Wireless Code switch to the same channel that you set the subwoofer's Wireless Code switch. By default, both Wireless Code switches are set to 1.

Wired Inputs: In addition to wireless connectivity, the Revel B8 is also outfitted with LFE and stereo RCA wired inputs for connection to your receiver, integrated amplifier, or preamplifier.

  • LFE: The LFE input bypasses the subwoofer's internal low-pass crossover. When you're connecting the subwoofer to the dedicated subwoofer output of a receiver/processor that has its own low-pass crossover network, use the LFE input. You must also set the subwoofer's Input Mode switch in the "LFE" position.
  • Stereo RCA: The stereo RCA inputs pass through the subwoofer's internal low-pass crossover. When you're connecting the subwoofer to the preamp or subwoofer outputs of a receiver/processor that does not have its own low-pass crossover network, use the stereo RCA inputs. You must also set the Input Mode switch in the "Normal" position. If your receiver/amp/preamp has only one subwoofer output, you can use either the Left or Right jack of the stereo RCA inputs.

Note: You can use both the wireless and the wired methods to connect the subwoofer to two different sources. However, if you play both sources at the same time the subwoofer will play bass from them both.

Controls: The Revel B8 wireless powered subwoofer provides Subwoofer Level, Bass Boost, and Phase controls on the rear-panel to tailor the subwoofer's sound to your content, room, and preference. The subwoofer also features a fixed low-pass crossover that is not adjustable.

  • Subwoofer Level: Use the Subwoofer Level control to adjust the powered subwoofer's overall volume level. Turn clockwise to increase the volume or turn counterclockwise to decrease the volume. Sometimes the ideal subwoofer volume setting for music is too loud for movies, while the ideal setting for movies is too quiet for music. When setting the subwoofer volume, listen to both music and films with strong bass content and find a "middle ground" volume level that works for both.
  • Bass Boost: When set to the "On" position, the Bass Boost switch enhances low-frequency performance, resulting in bass with more impact - which you may prefer while watching movies or listening to music. Setting the switch to the "Off" position will return normal low-frequency performance to your system.
  • Phase Switch: The Phase switch determines whether the subwoofer's cone moves in and out in phase with your other loudspeakers. If the subwoofer were to play out of phase with your speakers, the sound waves from the speakers could cancel out some of the subwoofer's sound waves, reducing bass performance and sonic impact. This phenomenon depends in part on the placement of all the speakers in the room. In most cases, the Phase switch should be left in the "Normal" position. However, it does no harm to experiment, and you can leave the Phase switch in the position that maximizes bass response and impact.

Placement Options: The performance of a subwoofer is directly related to its placement in the listening room and its physical position relative to the other speakers in the system. While it is true that in general our ears do not hear directional sounds at the low frequencies where subwoofers operate, when installing a subwoofer within the limited confines of a room, the reflections, standing waves and absorptions generated within the room will strongly influence the performance of any subwoofer system. As a result, the specific location of the subwoofer in the room does become important to the amount and quality of bass that is produced.

  • Placing the subwoofer next to a wall generally will increase the amount of bass in the room; placing it in a corner generally will maximize amount of bass in the room. However, corner placement can also increase the destructive effect of standing waves on bass performance. This effect can vary depending on the listening position; some listening positions may yield very good results while others may have far too much (or too little) bass at certain frequencies. In many rooms, placing the subwoofer along the same plane as the left and right speakers can produce the best integration between the sound of the subwoofer and that of the left and right speakers. In some rooms, the best performance could even result from placing the subwoofer behind the listening position.
  • Experiment with placement before choosing a final location for the subwoofer. One way you can determine the best location for the subwoofer is by temporarily placing it in the listening position and playing music with strong bass content. Move around to various locations in the room while the system is playing (putting your ears where the subwoofer would be placed), and listen until you find the location where the bass performance is best. Then, place the subwoofer in that location.

Trigger Input: The Revel B8 wireless powered subwoofer is equipped with a rear-panel 3.5mm Trigger Input. Whenever the subwoofer detects a trigger signal between 3V and 30V (AC or DC), its amplifier will turn on. The amplifier will turn off after the trigger signal ceases, even when the Power On Mode switch is in the "Auto" position.

Power Requirements: The Revel B8 wireless powered subwoofer is equipped with an attached 62" AC power cord that will need to be plugged into an AC wall outlet or surge protector (sold separately - see Accessories Tab). The wireless transmitter comes with an AC power adapter and cord that will also need be plugged into an AC wall outlet or surge protector.
