Revel Performa3 F208

I ordered a scratch and dent Revel f208 and was very pleased to see very minor blemish on one speaker in a very unnoticeable place. These look and sound fantastic, as I was hoping. Would definitely recommend these and crutchfield for their stellar support !

FISHERS

Just got a package of two F208s, one C208 and six C763L. Matching those with SVS 4000 PB sub. All powered by Anthem MRX740 second gen plus MCA 325 amplifier. Wonderful soundstage ! When I listen to music, I have only the two F208s running. The sound is the most natural I've ever listened to. You can hear each instrument used in the background. Vocals are clear. Background orchestra is perfect - as the Music composer intended to. Movies come out like you're watching in an IMAX, with the six C763L for surrounds, rear and rear surrounds, you get a real feel of a movie theatre. Man I am fully impressed by Revel. Would recommend these in a heart beat. You will not regret your purchase. Way to go...

Revel Performa3 F208
Jim from South Windsor, CT on 10/24/2022
I've had the pleasure of owning some highly rated speakers over the years, all of them bought used. My last setup consisted of full-range electrostatics that I had for more than 40 years. My wife finally won out complaining of their size and their demanding placement requirements. These Revel F208 speakers that took their place were, therefore, the first new speakers that I had purchased in decades. And, having bought used speakers in the past, the concept of a break-in period was somewhat foreign to me. No more, Out of the box, these speakers demonstrated the precision, delicacy and smoothness in the midrange and highs that I had heard in a Revel demonstration several years ago. Over the past two weeks the speakers have retained that smoothness and delicacy while developing an impressively solid low end that I had not detected at first. Is that the result of breaking them in or changes in my perception of the sound? It really doesn't matter. The result is the same. These are excellent speakers that impress and produce rewarding sound even at lower volumes. At higher listening levels, they easily fill my 2,800 cubic foot listening room to concert hall levels. In addition, they pass the "next room" test. That is to say that the sound remains realistic and satisfying outside the listening room. Solo piano tracks sound as if there really is a piano in the next room. I give these speakers top grades. They are definitely keepers and will serve me well for many years.
Pros: Great sound, they prompted spousal approval for appearances and sonic performance, and Crutchfield once more exceeded its promises. The speakers arrived in flawless condition.
Cons: Sorry, can't think of any, but they are heavy.

Not bad, but not the product I was hoping for and not an 8" driver
Crutchfield customer from Austin, TX on 10/21/2022
In the best case, with properly recorded music, the speakers disappear. The feeling that you are right there in the studio is palpable and you feel a certain euphoria. There is an unmistakable ambiance. Every musical instrument is beautifully detailed and distinct. Not so with the F208. Certain instruments are reproduced well, but others not. The manufacturer spec for the F208 is an 8 inch woofer "cone", but in reality it is only 6 inches. This becomes quite apparent when listening to the F208. The lower frequencies sound shallow. It's not a bad speaker, but ultimately, I returned it. Even at a reduced price, it's not going to satisfy critical listeners.
Pros: good tweeter from Revel
Cons: midrange and bass response is lacking

New Speakers!
David from Aiken, SC on 9/30/2022
I purchased these speakers sight/sound unseen/unheard. I did read several reviews, noted that Stereophile considered them a Class B recommended speaker for a few years, and generally are a very well-reviewed/received speaker. With the current 30% off sale going on, it made it a pretty easy decision. Some reviews indicated it took about 500 hours of burn in time before the speakers really sounded good. This may be the case, but strait out of the boxes I have really enjoyed their sound. To me, best question to ask with any type of audio/video purchase is now that you have the item, or a friend has it would you buy it again if you were starting over? My answer would be Yes.

I was really shocked after hearing the F208's. I heard the demo in Nashville TN, and hooked up my MA352. I was in heaven that I called in sick.. If I consider an upgrade it will be the B&W800 series. But I'm sitting in a good place now.
Pros: Great stage musical sound. You absolutely don't know where the music is coming from.
Cons: Took awhile for me to break them in, but it was totally worth it.

Revel Performa3 F208
Jim from Amherst, OH on 6/8/2022
I purchased these through the outlet store as a scratch and dent item. I was reticent as these are my end destination speakers for my system. They appear to my eyes to be flawless. I could not be more pleased. I set them up generally and they immediately centered and spaciously filled my room. They neither tilt towards high nor low but provide totally accurate source representation. Could not be more pleased as the discount for what Crutchfield perceived as flawed ,which is imperceivable to me ,has allowed me to afford my benchmark speakers.
Pros: Forgivable placement. Dead on accurate.
Cons: None

Steven from Bothell, WA on 1/22/2022
Brilliant! These speakers reveal detail that you didn't know was in your music. However, they don't suffer bad recordings well. They tell the truth and if the truth is not good, you will know. But, if the music has been treated right when recorded, these will reward you with gorgeous sound. You will find yourself finding reasons to listen to music and not wanting to stop. If your music doesn't sound good, don't blame the F208's, something else is going on. Good bass, clear highs, and a mid-range that brings life to music.

Revel f208 speakers
Guest from Dalton, ga on 7/12/2021
I have owned the f208 for a couple of years and it is very accurate. It takes around 40 hrs to break in, but it is a reward when it does. (I know some say speakers don't need break in, but they do.) They need plenty of room and watts to be their best, also a very good source because some cd's sound are not the best quality, and they will tell on them. My system consists of an adcom ace- 315 line Conditioner, oppo udp-205 preamp cd- dvd player, parasound halo a21 amp, sunyata viper interconnects, audioquest Gibraltar speaker cable. The f208 speakers are to my ears accurate, but they don't pull me Into the music like my old Dahlquists did. They also cause ear fatigue without the foam to stop up the port. Put them in a large room, supply a lot of watts, and feed them good sound quality and you probably will be happy.
Pros: Will play loud and take a lot of amp power, accurate, fast transient response, bass and treble can be adjusted, cabinet is beautiful, you can spend your $ on a lot worse.
Cons: Long break in time, needs foam port stopper, heavy, big, to me music sounds contrite on them.

Accuracy Over Atmosphere
Lawrence Univ from OSHKOSH, WI on 3/16/2021
This loudspeaker (which offers surprisingly scant bass) presents a very fine delineation of instruments and voices. And yet it delivers very little sense of an atmosphere around them. Audiences could be convinced that what they are perceiving is "purity" of sound--without distortion--and they would not be wrong, but it's a relatively lifeless sound. The F208 measures well (as Stereophile and AudioScienceReview.com have shown), and, subjectively, professional reviewers admire its timbral accuracy. In the end, however, the loudspeaker is a towering mannequin of sound, with flesh like gorgeous marble--cool, palpable, and bloodless.

Solid build and fantastic sound!
Guest from Mount Juliet, TN on 11/28/2020
Awesome speaker! I auditioned this speaker and bought a pair the same day. This speaker has incredible imaging and detail. This sound is silky smooth with full tight bass. I still have lots of break- in time left but I believe the sound will get even better over time. Once I got the speakers home the bass was not as plentiful as it was in the showroom but the pair in the showroom have been used for a while and these are straight out of the box. I also compared the BE series and thought they sounded great as well but were more on the bright side. Great speakers and they look beautiful as well.
Pros: Great sound, smooth highs and good bass. Solid construction and beautiful large cabinets
Cons: None

Revel f208
Guest from Cheshire, CT on 6/20/2020
I listened to many comparable price speakers including Goldenear, Dynaudio and Sonus Fabre. All great speakers and each had strong points. Ultimately, the Revels just sounded right on all types of music, looked great and had the best off axis response by a mile.
Pros: Excellent build for the price. Sound is clear and detailed without over emphasizing highs or lows. Love the off axis sound quality too.
Cons: Requires a quality sub. Bass is tight and quick but I added a sub after a couple weeks. Given need for a sub, I'm curious if f206 with dual subs might have been a better option for the same money.

I have waited to review until after a 100 hour break-in period and there is one! The speakers are tight until you have worked them out. Now I will say that the price and break-in was worth it! Wonderful soundstage and range for rock to classical. I am powering with McIntosh 302 which they pair nicely.
Pros: Wonderful range
Cons: Large and heavy

Excellent & Beautiful
Crutchfield customer from Loganville, GA on 1/5/2019
Big, heavy, beautiful and solidly built. Very clean full sound with no distortion when played loud. Using a Parasound 250 WPC power amp to drive them and the matching C208 center. Added an SVS PC-4000 sub to my other sub, and Def Tech bi-polar surround speakers and really enjoy these speakers. The sound is just so clean. Very highly recommended. However, UPS Freight took 12 days (yes, nearly a half a month) to deliver these speakers to me and I only live an 8 hour drive away from where the speakers shipped from.
Pros: Clean, full sounding, room filling.
Cons: May need a power amp to drive these so as to experience their potential.
