I believe they are there to make jumper wires for Subwoofers with multiple voice coils. However i may be wrong.

Generally speaker, mos banana connectors can accept between 12-18 gauge speaker wire. I cannot find any listing that specifically states that with these connectors, but I would say it is a safe bet that they can.
