About the Epson EpiqVision™ LS500

An easy-to-place projector

I love the idea of the giant picture a projector can deliver, but my living room offers no good spot to install a standard model. If you also have an oddball room, or you just want a simple installation, then an ultra short throw (UST) projector like this Epson LS500 is a great solution. You can simply place it on a low table almost directly under your screen — saving yourself the hassle of ceiling mounting and eliminating the need for long cable runs between the projector and your other gear.

Epson LS500 UST projector

The LS500's minimalist, attractive design will fit easily into your home's décor (available in black or white).

A bright, colorful picture

Epson has managed to fit some premium technology into this clean, attractive design, including their ultra-bright laser array and a trio of high-definition LCD imaging chips. It can also accept native 4K content, rendering it clearly thanks to Epson's 4K Enhancement Technology, which shifts each pixel diagonally by half a pixel and combines the two images to provide a sharper picture.

Easily stream your movies and shows

The LS500 includes the Android TV streaming platform (via dongle), so you can access your favorite streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, and HBO without having to hook up a separate source. And you can even search using your voice thanks to the remote's built-in Google Assistant.

More connections are there if you need them

There are two HDMI inputs — in addition to the one you'll use for the Android TV dongle — for connecting other gear, like a Blu-ray player or a laptop. And one input is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC) for added flexibility in connecting to a separate sound system. A USB port lets you plug in a digital camera or other compatible device, and a 3.5mm stereo minijack output lets you connect headphones or external powered speakers.

For the best picture quality with this projector, we recommend using an ultra short throw screen.

Ultra-Short Throw Laser-Array Technology: The Epson EpiqVision LS500 is an ultra short-throw laser projector. You can place the laser projector just inches from the wall and get sharp, life-size images in Full HD resolution up to 130". The laser light source delivers up to 10 or more years of virtually maintenance free operation (20,000 hours in Normal mode or 30,000 hours in ECO mode).

Screen Or Image Size (16:9 Aspect Ratio) Projection Distance (wide to tele)
    70" 7.8" to 14.0"
    80" 10.3" to 17.4"
    90" 12.8" to 20.8"
    100" 15.4"
    110" 17.9"
    120"
    20.4"
    130" 23.0"

Note: Do not look into the lens during projection. Also, do not look into the lens using optical devices, such as a magnifying glass or telescope. This could cause visual impairment. When turning on the projector at a distance using the remote control, make sure no one is looking into the lens.

3LCD: The Epson EpiqVision LS500 projector utilizes 3-chip LCD technology for amazing color, incredible detail and solid reliability. 3LCD's 3-chip architecture dedicates an entire chip to process each primary color - red, green, and blue, continuously. Unlike single-chip technology that delivers color sequentially, you get full-time color. The result is vibrant, realistic images and video all delivered with 3LCD's true-to-life color.

    • True-to-Life Colors: 3LCD delivers up to 3x brighter colors in comparison with 1-chip DLP projectors. Color Brightness (Color Light Output) measured in accordance with IDMS 15.4. Color Brightness will vary depending on usage conditions. Additionally, 3LCD projectors have up to 3x Wider Color Gamut than 1-chip DLP projectors. With its 3-chip design, 3LCD delivers clear and vibrant images that are true-to-life. In contrast to 3-chip 3LCD projectors, 1-chip DLP projectors use a rotating color wheel that spins at a rapid speed, only displaying colors sequentially, which can result in color break-up or the "rainbow effect".
    • Greater Detail & Contrast: 3LCD projection efficiently uses light to project to the screen with no color disruption. 3LCD technology delivers sharper and brighter images with superior grayscale detail. Grayscale is the shades of gray (from black to white) required for greater image depth and detail; it allows greater variation in shadows and brings superior accuracy to color, creating a jaw-dropping, true-to-life visual experience
    • Energy Efficient: 3LCD projection technology uses light efficiently to create stunning images. In contrast to 1-chip technology, 3LCD requires 25% less electricity per lumen of brightness. 1-chip projectors use a color wheel, which leads to an inefficient design, thereby causing light loss. 3LCD does not rely on a color wheel. On average, 3LCD projectors are 25% more energy efficient.
    • Simple & Reliable Design: 3LCD systems are reliable and use a simple optical design which includes 3 chips and 1 prism. Light flows seamlessly through the system to produce brilliant on-screen colors and sharp images every time.

High Brighntess & Dynamic Contrast: The EpiqVision LS500 can display a 4K/HDR content image at an exceptional level of brightness for all-day viewing in virtually any light environment. In the normal mode, the Home Cinema LS100 outputs 4,000 lumens of white light and 4,000 lumens of color light for bright, balanced colorful images. The laser projector also utilizes advanced black density control to individually pulse the laser light so it can precisely suppress stray light within the signal for incredible deep blacks. The projector is capable of a dynamic contrast ratio up to 2,500,000:1 for rich detail in dark scenes. You can even turn on the Dynamic Contrast setting to automatically optimize the image luminance to improve the image contrast based on the brightness of the content you project.

Note: The white light output is measured using ISO 21118, a more rigid standard than the ANSI lumens rating used by many competitors.

4K PRO-UHD Projection Technology: The Epson EpiqVision LS500 has a native resolution of 1080p (1920x1080) and employs Epson's 4K PRO-UHD Projection Technology to create an enhanced 4K (4096x2160) image. 4K PRO-UHD Projection Technology utilizes advanced processing to enhance resolution (4K), color (10-bit), and image processing (12-bit); resulting in an exceptional 4K home theater experience.

    • 4K Resolution Enhancement: Pixel-shifting technology precisely controls the projector's three individual, high definition LCD chips and shifts millions of pixels diagonally to double the resolution and surpass Full HD image quality for an enhanced 4K experience.
    • Full 10-Bit HDR: The EpiqVision LS500 accepts 100% of the HDR source information to faithfully reproduce HDR content for an amazing visual experience. HDR (High Dynamic Range) reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, bringing greater contrast & wider color spectrum to the screen. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. The EpiqVision LS500 supports HDR 10 and HLG (not compatible with Dolby Vision).
    • Digital Video Processing: The EpiqVision LS500 utilizes real-time 12-bit analog-to-digital video processing for smooth tonal transitions; eliminating banding, blocking, and other compression artifacts from the final visual performance.

Note: The EpiqVision LS500 has a native resolution of 1080p (1920x1080) and incorporates pixel-shifting technology to create an enhanced 4K image (4096x2160).

HDMI 2.0 (18Gbps): The EpiqVision LS500 is equipped with three HDMI 2.0 inputs (18Gbps) that are compatible with virtually all color formats, depths and spaces while simultaneously supporting 4K/HDR content at a full 60Hz. In addition to 4K (3840x2160), the HDMI inputs will also accept 1080p, 720p, 480p, and 480i video resolution signals.

    • HDCP 2.2: HDCP 2.2 is supported by all HDMI inputs. HDCP 2.2 is short for "High bandwidth Digital Content Protection" and is used for 4K video copyright protection for compatibility with Ultra HD Blu-ray players, 4K Satellite/Cable providers, and ultra high definition online video services.
    • ARC (Audio Return Channel): The LS500's HDMI-2 port supports ARC, allowing you to connect the projector to your AV receiver or soundbar for Dolby Digital & DTS multichannel audio playback.
    • 3D-Ready: 3D video content is supported up to 1080p; 4K/HDR enhancement is not supported during 3D video. To view 3D content, you must first connect a 3D-compatible video device to one of the HDMI ports. You will also need a pair of Epson RF Active Shutter 3D glasses (ELPGS03, sold separately) for each viewer. The projector's 2D-to-3D Conversion setting will even transform 2D images to 3D content.

Note: Use a premium high speed HDMI cable with 18 Gbps and above to view 4K/HDR content.

Image Settings: Settings on the Image menu let you adjust the aspect ratio, color, and quality of your image for the input source you are currently using. The available settings depend on the currently selected input source.

    • Aspect Ratio: You can select the following image aspect ratios, depending on the input signal from your image source. Black bands and cropped images may project in certain aspect ratios, depending on the aspect ratio and resolution of your input signal.
