Compact, lightweight, and versatile lens
This compact Olympus M. Zuiko lens gives you great mid- to long-range telephoto shooting capability in a portable, lightweight package that tips the scales at a scant 6.7 ounces. It's the perfect lens choice to have mounted to your mirrorless camera when you're not sure what you'll capture next — a candid portrait of your child's face from across the playground, the closeup details of a spotted fawn grazing in your backyard, or a sunset on Maui.
With its quiet, Movie & Stills Compatible (MSC) autofocus system, this lens also excels at enabling you to gather excellent sound while capturing video. Of course, the superb optical performance you've come to expect from Olympus is still here, as well. An extra-low dispersion glass lens elements make your images as sharp and artifact-free as they can be.
I bought this lens to go with my E-M10 camera, thinking it would be nice to have some extra reach (80-300mm equivalent) without spending a lot. The plan was to upgrade to one of the pro lenses in the same focal length at some point... but that plan has changed. This is one fantastic lens!
First of all, it's positively tiny for the amount of reach it provides. I was counting on this, because the size issue is what has drawn me to the micro 4/3 universe in the first place, but wow, is this lens tiny in person (and super easy to carry). It's not much bigger than one of the prime lenses I have in my kit.
But what has impressed me from the start is how crisp and sharp the images I get from this lens are. It focuses fast, too, and silently. It's not an indoor lens, but if you want to travel light I recommend it highly. Especially for the money, it's a real bargain.
